so the lakers are just trying to amass as many picks as possible in order to trade? also i wonder how this changes dwight's desire to go to the nyets. how hilarious would it be if his secrete meeting w/ prok totally sold him on the nyets and now he has no interest in going to the lakers and so they end up with neither player? i'm sure this scenario is unlikely, but still fun to think about

ha so reading thru this thread over the last few days makes me realise that I know crap all about bball. Even so trading Odom for 2 not very good future draft picks seems insane. Odom wasn't the laker who tried to decapitate barea in the play offs last year was he? Or was that Bynum?
― pandemic, Sunday, 11 December 2011 11:29 (twelve years ago) link
that was bynum

Strange day in the NBA

The Mavericks get to choose any of the next 6 seasons to send the pick, and no matter what it will be top 20 protected.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 11 December 2011 14:49 (twelve years ago) link
hollinger
To make sense of an Odom trade with respect to a future Howard deal, about the best I can do is a four-for-two deal that sends Howard, Duhon and Turkoglu to L.A. for Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, and puts Jameer Nelson into the exception created by Odom's trade. In this scenario, getting Nelson to alleviate the point guard hole might ease some of the sting of the Lakers' trading both star big men to land Howard and would give the Magic added cap relief.
― Cooper Chucklebutt, Sunday, 11 December 2011 14:49 (twelve years ago) link
The Magic aren't trading away both of their point guards.
― EZ Snappin, Sunday, 11 December 2011 14:56 (twelve years ago) link
man u dont need any point guards when u have gasol and bynum just ask the lakers
― Cooper Chucklebutt, Sunday, 11 December 2011 14:57 (twelve years ago) link
what do u guys think of a howard/world peace/BALL/kobe/nelson line up
― Cooper Chucklebutt, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:02 (twelve years ago) link
the magic will just use their t-shirt launchers to pass the ball to open forwards
xpost

i mean, that's another one where i'm like... okay, you're absorbing the nucleus of a team that just lost to the hawks in the first round and adding a 33 year old kobe bryant. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
― v-shasty, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:18 (twelve years ago) link
haha otm
― Cooper Chucklebutt, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:18 (twelve years ago) link
looks like the Mavs first rounder in the Odom trade is "sometime in the next six years at Mavs discretion" and top 20 protected. Not much of a chip to sweeten any trade.
― EZ Snappin, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:19 (twelve years ago) link
who the hell is iman shumpert
― dayo, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:19 (twelve years ago) link
knicks first round pick from this year

i just like his name
― Cooper Chucklebutt, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:20 (twelve years ago) link
he's a guard who is a pretty good defender but can't do jack on offense, so he's actually a decent fit in NY
tylercowen tylercowen Dwight plus Kobe not so different from Dwight plus Gil, esp. with lots of games crammed together, no other big guy or great shooter.1 minute ago

― v-shasty, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:25 (twelve years ago) link
lol @ guy w/ 7 PPG being better than this guy on offense
― dayo, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:33 (twelve years ago) link
What does Houston do?First, hide the sharp objects in Daryl Morey's office. After that, the Rockets have a few alternatives. For one, they can turn around and try to get Paul directly, using many of the same players they were angling to use to get Pau Gasol from New Orleans in the defunct three-way deal. Also, Houston is likely out of the running for Nene minus the cap space the three-way deal would have created, but the Rockets might decide to jump in on the Chauncey Billups amnesty bidding, allowing them to dangle Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic as trade bait. The Rockets also might sign Marc Gasol to an offer sheet.
One thing is clear -- the Rockets had been building assets to set up a trade exactly like this one, a home run that left them with a Gasol-Nene front line and a three- to four-year window to win a title. More than anybody, they got absolutely screwed by how this all went down.
lol oh no did the commissioner stop you from fleecing new orleans you poor thing, maybe you should talk to yr owner abt that whole the league owning a team concept
― Cooper Chucklebutt, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:33 (twelve years ago) link
its funny how hollinger always over rates houston, like explain to me how gasol/nene dont get dunked on every play

uh, nene is good defensively bro.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:36 (twelve years ago) link
I don't get how Nene and Pau are complimentary players. I get Nene and Dwight, but not those two.
― EZ Snappin, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:37 (twelve years ago) link
nene is a pretty flashy shotblocker
― dayo, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:38 (twelve years ago) link
nene/gasol would be one of the best defensive 4/5 combos in the league, actually.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:38 (twelve years ago) link
they would just have issues against the monsters like Bogut.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:39 (twelve years ago) link
and DHo of course.
fellas fellas fellas this is so hilarious to me that odom was so butthurt about a potential trade that the lakes had to throw him into the welcoming arms of mark cuban for a bag of donuts

youre insane
gotta say im not really feeling any money for jeff green, wondering when this david west thing is done, not really feeling a lot of kg at center, etc etc
like randomly signing chris wilcox though, he can play 8 min a game and not kill you
wish joel pryzbilla or something was out there to keep kg out of playing center

or .9 rather

nene/gasol makes sense to me offensively... i mean, nene's not really a back to the basket player is he?
― v-shasty, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:44 (twelve years ago) link
he's a solid defender man. Crafty with steals, strong, mobile.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:44 (twelve years ago) link
nene so rarely looks to score that it's hard to say, jord.
― Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:45 (twelve years ago) link
I would say he likes to isolate and face up mid-post.
man nene kinda sux, doesnt rebound, doesnt protect the rim, always injured, scores efficiently but has never averaged more than 15ppg
― Cooper Chucklebutt, Sunday, 11 December 2011 15:46 (twelve years ago) link
kinda pissed that the post-melo nuggets were only around for a half season, that team was exciting as fuck
nene made the most sense to me in that environment, where he could really run the break. dude was dropping atomic dunks on fools in that thunder series.

"protecting the rim" is the most overvalued defensive skill there is.
