yeah I don't get it

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:13 (twelve years ago) link

maybe the setback is so horrible that oden and his agent feel like no one would sign him so they'll take whatever they can get.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:14 (twelve years ago) link

i.e. they're worried about the contract being voided due to a failed physical?

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:15 (twelve years ago) link

Really Oden should just be retiring, this is absurd.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:16 (twelve years ago) link

What was I just saying abt this franchise and sadness

clay, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:18 (twelve years ago) link

If he's injured at the time of the signing, how can he fail his physical for being injured? I get if another team kicked the tires and said no thanks, but Portland has been managing his frailitude since he entered the league.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:20 (twelve years ago) link

And a qualifying offer amount is decided by the league based on tenure and draft placement. It isn't negotiated in the first place.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:21 (twelve years ago) link

david stern should just give chris paul to portland

yeah I really don't understand. Maybe they examined him and there was a little window of time where they could have pulled the offer before he could officially sign it and they negotiated.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:23 (twelve years ago) link

so apparently the league has told the Hornets that they need to get younger players and draft picks to make a deal acceptable. Why not just get a 4th team involved who will give up picks/young players for scola/martin/odom?

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:28 (twelve years ago) link

"Following Greg's most recent physical examination and evaluation, we've determined that he has suffered a setback," said Trail Blazers President Larry Miller. "We're hopeful, but less confident that he will return to the court this season. We've stood by Greg from the day he was drafted and we continue to do so now with this agreement."

Lol rip

clay, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:31 (twelve years ago) link

LaMarcus Aldridge has mysteriously not completed his physical.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:35 (twelve years ago) link

Maybe Oden really is the 50 year old man we all thought he looked like at the time

mayor jingleberriez, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:35 (twelve years ago) link

my Oden theory is that he has gigantism and they're covering it up.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:35 (twelve years ago) link

^^I'm aware this is a silly conspiracy theory.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:37 (twelve years ago) link

you guys know I use the same doctors as the trailblazers right

kinda afraid if I went in today they'd be like "sorry dude it's leukemia we did our best"

clay, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:38 (twelve years ago) link

it's so painful that of the 3, larue martin was the healthy one.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:40 (twelve years ago) link

god, make that 4, counting walton.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:40 (twelve years ago) link

it's not like greg oden would be the first person in the NBA to have been suspected of gigantism

dayo, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:44 (twelve years ago) link

Conflicting reports now on BRoy's retirement (which hasn't been announced by Broy, so still suspect). Sad as it would be, I kind of hope he'll do it, for the sake of the knees and his future ability to walk to the mailbox without debilitating pain.

Aimless, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:53 (twelve years ago) link

it kills me that Gheorghe only had 2 good years in the nba before the injuries set in. He's probably my favorite center ever.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:55 (twelve years ago) link

I'm just marveling at that jacket/tie/shirt combo

dayo, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:57 (twelve years ago) link

fashion options for 7'7 guys are prob. pretty limited in Romania.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 00:58 (twelve years ago) link

I remember there was a Bulls-Bullets game where rodman and gheorghe mixed it up and almost got in a fight and then after the game they bro'd out and laughed about it. miss u Gheorghe

lol @ the ppl booing lebron

v-shasty, Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:12 (twelve years ago) link

also oden should just retire too

v-shasty, Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:12 (twelve years ago) link

The answer to that question is... well, no; he doesn't look healthy enough to run. But he has exploding kneecaps, so what do you expect?

Aimless, Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:13 (twelve years ago) link

first google hit for 'bone on bone' is b. roy ;_;

dayo, Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:15 (twelve years ago) link

how the hell did oden get clearance to "run and cut" 2 days after that video?

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:17 (twelve years ago) link

btw, I would be the first to say that Oden's exploding kneecaps are not his fault, and I bear him no ill will. He's doing everything a human with exploding kneecaps could do to justify his contract.

Aimless, Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:26 (twelve years ago) link

― Matt Armstrong, Friday, December 9, 2011 8:17 PM (20 minutes ago)

he was probably just rehabbing and icing it or something before that was shot & he was sore

k3vin k., Saturday, 10 December 2011 01:43 (twelve years ago) link

So fucking stoked for Warriors basketball this season, there's like no decent roster moves to make (nobody wants to take monta's dumb contract), the coach really just wants to play ball again, and Biedrins is still totally going to be our starting center. But fuck it, there's gonna be a season.

moonbop, Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:12 (twelve years ago) link

Biedrens and Ellis can be the anchors on a solid .490 ball club.

Aimless, Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:16 (twelve years ago) link

moonbop = polyphonic? but doesn't polyphonic post under polyphonic? hmm

dayo, Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:19 (twelve years ago) link

I really hope Marc Jackson suits up at some point due to desperation or something

moonbop, Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:21 (twelve years ago) link

moonbop, Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:21 (twelve years ago) link

feel like maybe they should quarantine the blazers until further notice

blazersedge: Aldridge should be back in 1-2 weeks after recurrence of heart condition. -- Buchanan

v-shasty, Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:53 (twelve years ago) link

Haha just came here to post that, j0rd.

Hahaha

Haha
ha

clay, Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:54 (twelve years ago) link

sounds like the warriors' big move will be a huge offer for Deandre

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:55 (twelve years ago) link

so the blazers second best player retires, their first overall pick has a setback with his debilitating leg injury, and then their best player has heart surgery

quite the offseason so far...

v-shasty, Saturday, 10 December 2011 02:58 (twelve years ago) link

hey even so the blazers are still better than the sixers

dayo, Saturday, 10 December 2011 03:03 (twelve years ago) link

4 of the top 10 picks from the 2006 draft are now out of the league.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 10 December 2011 03:05 (twelve years ago) link

apparently the 29 owner vote dan gilbert wanted would have been collusion and a violation of the cba. Nice job, dan!
