I agree with that somewhat, but 99% of the time these deals are handed out by bad teams that are a mile away from contention (like the Nets with Nene).

if the Rockets had maxed out nene after a Gasol deal I would have been down with that.

Okay hollinger's already pretty much said my feelings for me above (thanks kev) but man brandon retiring is some sad shit especially because dude is like 4 years younger than me and could run unopposed for mayor in Portland. I'm happy he's not pushing himself into disability -- I'm happy medicine and reason exists to save athletes from that at all these days -- and if it puts the blazers in a place to sign a max guy next year well bravo. I have never seen anything remotely like Brandon Roy playing on those knees last year. It was shocking to see a player drag a leg around through multiple nba games like that.

I vividly recall Roy taking a charge, and as he fell he kept his legs straight in the air because he didn't want to feel the pain of his legs hitting the the ground.

And a qualifying offer amount is decided by the league based on tenure and draft placement. It isn't negotiated in the first place.

yeah I really don't understand. Maybe they examined him and there was a little window of time where they could have pulled the offer before he could officially sign it and they negotiated.

so apparently the league has told the Hornets that they need to get younger players and draft picks to make a deal acceptable. Why not just get a 4th team involved who will give up picks/young players for scola/martin/odom?

Conflicting reports now on BRoy's retirement (which hasn't been announced by Broy, so still suspect). Sad as it would be, I kind of hope he'll do it, for the sake of the knees and his future ability to walk to the mailbox without debilitating pain.

it kills me that Gheorghe only had 2 good years in the nba before the injuries set in. He's probably my favorite center ever.
