Well, I did end up buying stuff of Friday. Not anything mentioned above, but:

-$20.00 worth of gasoline (87 octane), at $2.399/gallon
-Latté ($3.65 + $1.00 tip)
-Presonus Firebox ($265.00 plus 7.75% sales tax)
-Dinner at In-n-out (~$6.50)
-Cigarettes ($4.75)
-$8.00 for parking
-Two (2) tickets for Richie Hawtin/Jeff Mills @ Avalon Hollywood, at $10.00 each
-$28.00 worth of drinks at Avalon (incl. tip)

I spent a lot of money, thus cancelling out some of you buy-nothingers.

for black friday i bought no new stuff, did not go to no malls, so i think i did a'ight.

i bought a used LP at a record shop i love here in portland, exiled -- st john green, weirdo spoken word psych. sort of doors meets the red krayola maybe? am sure people on here know it. nice clean dj copy, $25, seems fair to me.

ohh also i bought coffee (a necessity), fruit and some fancy cheese (ros to be exact -- i thinkit's spanish and it's a super delicious goat cheese, or maybe sheep).

yetimike, Monday, 27 November 2006 03:16 (seventeen years ago) link

I want that. (I am hungry.)

BTW, Mike, v. likely I'll be up in Portland before going to EMP this year. But drop me a line about that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 27 November 2006 03:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Ned! You just have to walk like two blocks for food though right? Ohh man, we just ate Ethiopian, yummmm. This one place has a dish they make with "chickpea crackers" never had it anywhere else, it's great.

Will be awesome to see you for EMP-time and we're driving up if you need a lift -- also if you need a place let us know. I'll be actually replying to your last email this week, sorry to be so slow with that business.

Ros cheese is from sheep, I was wrong. But holy fuck! It's divine.

i was pleased to see this on cd at a shop in san diego this past weekend. i've already got a copy, but i took comfort in knowing the store had it.

yeah i think it was just bootlegged, maybe for the second time?

yetimike, Monday, 27 November 2006 03:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I ended up just making some, always a good approach. Mm, starch.

And yes, will talk with you more about that -- I was thinking I'd like to crash with my cousin's family as I normally do but a ride up and back would be a treat. Anyway, more in e-mail, doubtless.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 27 November 2006 04:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Hang on! That's a Slim Gailard CD or LP up there!

it IS awesome. Value added fact: thanks to track 6 ("Chicken Rhythm"), I now have two songs in my collection comprised almost entirely out of chicken "bah-CAWks." I'm finally starting to get somewhere, after so much time and money.

Is the other one by Rolf Harris?

M Grout (Mark Grout), Monday, 27 November 2006 08:12 (seventeen years ago) link

hmm, i didn't know that friday was buy-nothing day. maybe that was why the gas station attendant in flemington, NJ where i filled it up was such a rude asshole (still dropped $25 for the privilege)!

Tad (Eisbär), Monday, 27 November 2006 08:15 (seventeen years ago) link

also bought a book for $15, and two CDs (kraftwerk's "minimum/maximum" and the new jay-z CD) for $35 total.

Tad (Eisbär), Monday, 27 November 2006 08:16 (seventeen years ago) link

kid koala (xpost). what's the rolf harris song?

minimum/maximum is so excellent.

i bought a memory card and carry case for my psp. does beer count? i bought that too.

Ste, Monday, 27 November 2006 09:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I would guess that the other chicken song is Ray Stevens doing "In The Mood" as the Henhouse Four Plus Two.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 27 November 2006 13:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Also that Slim album is fantastic; "How High The Moon" is today's official greatest record ever made ever.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 27 November 2006 13:39 (seventeen years ago) link

shit, I'm on my way to a chicken-squawk mixtape. the other song i was thinking of is on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

I NEVER buy myself anything, but I fell in love with a jacket, which I bought, on Saturday.

Know sometimes you buy a life-changing piece of clothing? This is it....

Rumps, Monday, 27 November 2006 13:47 (seventeen years ago) link

I bought a bag of wok veggies, two bottles of perfume (for the living room as our dog has shat in it two times in a frigging row), pumpkin soupmix (urgh diet starts today), 8grain bread,... That's about it for now.

stevie nixed (stevienixed), Monday, 27 November 2006 14:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Just beer.

I bought some thermal tops at the American Apparel outlet on Friday and Saturday, but that's it.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 27 November 2006 14:56 (seventeen years ago) link

I totally didn't buy anything on buy nothing day! I didn't do it consciously though, I just already had plenty of beer food etc.

I kept it to bananas and bread, but my wife went to Wal-Mart and threw them another $100 bill. :-(
