there's really nothing wrong with this deal!

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:57 (twelve years ago) link

odom and pau is a reasonable price to pay for Paul.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:57 (twelve years ago) link

why would the nba step in if they didn't stop the Pau to LA deal?

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:58 (twelve years ago) link

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA -- Owners were irate in Board of Governors meeting with Stern, livid that the league-owned Hornets were allowed to make Paul deal, sources say

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:00 (twelve years ago) link

omg david stern please put the kabosh on this that would be like the most A+ way imaginable to start the season after this clusterfuck

~occubarn~ (clay), Friday, 9 December 2011 02:01 (twelve years ago) link

why would the NBA kill this deal, but not the earlier gasol deal? because the NBA owns the hornets now, and the owners are in an uproar that a protracted lockout, supposedly to ensure competitive balance and to screw the big-market teams, is shown to be a sham within a day of the resulting deal being ratified.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:01 (twelve years ago) link

but it's a fair deal for the hornets!

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:02 (twelve years ago) link

i mean, the CBA isn't a sham, but if the purpose was to humble the big-market teams, this trade -- and the rumored one down the road for howard -- show the new CBA didn't accomplish that goal.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:02 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, i agree it's a fair-deal.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:02 (twelve years ago) link

but i think this is about an emotional issue, not a business-judgment.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:03 (twelve years ago) link

If I were Jerry Buss I would be on the phone with litigators.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:04 (twelve years ago) link

I would also be in bed with three hookers.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:05 (twelve years ago) link

three? jerry buss is in the upper 1% of the top 1%. he would have 10 hookers, at least.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:06 (twelve years ago) link

he's getting old

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:06 (twelve years ago) link

i mean, i guess the league could skirt the legal issue by banning the hornets -- their team -- from trading paul. i'm sure it would fly, legally, if they wanted to do it that way.

v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:07 (twelve years ago) link

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA -- The NBA is now pushing New Orleans GM Dell Demps to pull the plug on the trade and keep Chris Paul, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:07 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, exactly

v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:07 (twelve years ago) link

lol at the first day of training camp if odom and gasol have to come back to LAL.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:07 (twelve years ago) link

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:08 (twelve years ago) link

The NBA has killed the proposed deal to send Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources tell Yahoo! Sports.

unreal!!!

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:08 (twelve years ago) link

(although tbf they also got rights to marc who turns out is a pretty good center in his own right)

dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:08 (twelve years ago) link

WOW

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:09 (twelve years ago) link

so basically the league just forced Paul to become a free agent.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:10 (twelve years ago) link

holy shit

v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:10 (twelve years ago) link

ha wtf nba wtf @ u

~occubarn~ (clay), Friday, 9 December 2011 02:11 (twelve years ago) link

well, on the bright side, the LAL now have the assets to trade for dwight howard!

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:12 (twelve years ago) link

can you imagine what would have happened if the NFL had done this to Al Davis

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:12 (twelve years ago) link

lol... so was this like the 28 other owners collectively saying f u jerry buss?

OOOO, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:13 (twelve years ago) link

it's a love letter, of sorts.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:13 (twelve years ago) link

owners' motives are what i thought:

Adrian Wojnarowski -- The NBA has caved to pressure from owners that the appearance of this deal, on heels of lockout, had to be stopped, sources tell Y! Sports.

(not hard to dicipher, admittedly)

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:15 (twelve years ago) link

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA -- "The deal is off," a source involved in the talks tells Y! Sports. "It's dead."

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:16 (twelve years ago) link

well at least the Rockets were saved from themselves (their owner?)

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:16 (twelve years ago) link

What is going on?

Carnitas, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:17 (twelve years ago) link

i think this is an excuse by the owners for just feeling super butthurt about the lakers getting chris paul

v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

Fuckin little bitches

Carnitas, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

johnhollinger John Hollinger
This is nuts. This was a *BAD* trade by the Lakers, but other owners so jealous of their shiny object they blocked it anyway.

v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:20 (twelve years ago) link

how about the appearance of Chris Paul sleepwalking through a season in NO and then leaving them for nothing? That's a better look?

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:20 (twelve years ago) link

how could dell demps even keep that job? he has, what, 30 bosses?

v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:21 (twelve years ago) link

demps quitting tomorrow would be a gangsta move

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:22 (twelve years ago) link

it's a great day to be dwight howard.

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:23 (twelve years ago) link

yeah if this results in LAL getting howard it'll be even more ridiculous. how the fuck do these morons become billionaires in the first place with foresight like this?

~occubarn~ (clay), Friday, 9 December 2011 02:25 (twelve years ago) link

think he might be going overboard here but

johnhollinger John Hollinger
Lakers would have had no bench, no frontcourt, and virtually no chance at Dwight Howard. Houston, if Nene came, was potential top seed.

v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:26 (twelve years ago) link

man i go to a lil wine tasting and come back to this what a day

cad, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:26 (twelve years ago) link

dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:26 (twelve years ago) link

dhoshea

dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:27 (twelve years ago) link

if the lakers get howard now stern should be fired

v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 02:28 (twelve years ago) link
