not shoveling snow though, I guess

Calico (calico), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I remember when I was little being paid to shovel people's driveways. I bet I was really slow and did a crappy job. I usually got hot chocolate though.

Calico (calico), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:04 (seventeen years ago) link

sadly, i was not paid to shovel :(

i am now waiting to hear back from a bank i applied at!

Are you done with school yet, todd? I can't remember.

Calico (calico), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not home, nor will be for several hours (got to make up that time I spent playing at a high school assembly!).

JordanC (JordanC), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Jordan, Elaborate on the high school scene. Tell us about the kids these days.

Awesome, todd.

My plan for the evening:
Walk to Bus
Take bus to bank
Do stuff at bank (not rob it)
Go to video store
Pray Marie Antoinette is in
Pray they let me rent it even though we already have movies out
Walk the rest of the way home

Calico (calico), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:19 (seventeen years ago) link

don't rob the bank
don't rob the bank
don't rob the bank
you're cool, just don't rob the bank

Just keep repeating that you'll be fine.

I went out to dig our car out of the snow and discovered that our car mysteriously has almost no snow on it. Either some mysterious good samaritan cleaned it off or it was shielded from all the snow by being parked next to the garage for the building next door.

I stayed at home and rewatched a bunch of Freaks & Geeks today.

n/a (n/a), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't have any juicy anecdotes about the hs kids, but it was a little unnerving playing in the gymnasium (worst acoustics ever) for all of their jaded little eyes.

xpost, nice

JordanC (JordanC), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm home. The drive wasn't bad except for the madness at the intersections around LSD. Why don't people stop going across when it's obvious no more cars can fit? The roads are moving except for down there.

LSD sucked up until about 47th, then the wind was blowing and the snow was drifting so a lot of people just stopped, which made it so much easier to go around them. :)

IT IS ASSHOLE DAY ON TEH TRAINS. I also lucked into an Addison bus that then got rear ended. No one was hurt and another bus came long and we all got on that and went home.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Asshole train things:

1. Youngish kid taking up two seats for sleepin' on a train so crowded people couldn't get into the doors.
2. Youngish kid wakes up, recognizes his assholery, and sits up. Grown up dude immediately throws his bag into the empty seat, saying "I NEED TO THROW MY BAG HERE."
3. Grown dude starts telling a companion about his recent travels, relating a story about how he was really rocking out to some music when the guy behind him asked him to please not rock out so hard because he was rattling his tray table and making eating/reading impossible. The guy's response was to ignore him and keep on rocking because, "Hey, I've got a life to live."
4. Grown dude then went on to talk about how there were so many Mexicans out there and that he really couldn't stand that.
5. Meanwhile, less blatantly racist women standing next to me talked about the pros and cons of various resorts in Mexico based on the response time of the "little men" who brought them drinks.
6. Train finally pulled into Addison and Grown Dude and his companions, who were standing in front of the door, refused to move to let people out. I let off some steam by telling him, "You are a fucking asshole" as I pushed past him to squeeze out of the door.

Then I bought beer and I am drinking it now.

Yeah, there was a lot of Mexican hate on that train today.

Handgun O. Mendocino (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 23:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Those people must not ride the Blue Line.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 23:43 (seventeen years ago) link

The women would be ordering drinks from all the Blue Line riders like Lucille does when she attends the Desis.

DON'T DRIVE TODAY, GENIUS.
Some of us have to drive to work because taking the train/bus would take about 2 hours each way.

That said, I wanted to kill myself after spending THREE HOURS getting home from the west side today. Instead of killing myself I will drink some wine and eat some dinner and try not to kill myself.

I saw a snow drift in the middle of the road on LSD that was taller than I am.

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 00:02 (seventeen years ago) link

I would have rather spent 2 hours on the bus than three hours putzing through Chicago alone in my car at 2 mph.

I just found out the reason things were so backed up when I left work was that the city closed LSD from 57th to 47th because of drifting.

man, i'm sorry guys, i've been super pissy lately. all week, and all last week. everyone seems to be super pissy lately. my whole office is at one another's throats. it's all gone monkey side.

Bodhisattva, let me take you by the hand (kenan), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 00:51 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm struggling to maintain a positive attitude but it's getting a bit tough. I just ate a ginger spice cookie and it helped a little bit.

I just read a student's paper where she tells the story of how she was speeding on the turnpike and got pulled over for doing 90 mph in a 60 mph zone. The cop asked her to roll down her window and her daughter poked her head over to the driver's side and puked all over him. Then he gave her five tickets. The end. Or so goes her story.

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 02:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Grr. I lost my wireless connection right after posting that thing about driving in the weather, then I had to go to work.

I have owned a car, and that was in the South, and when it snowed there I sometimes went for pleasure drives. What would *not* be fun would be to have to actually get somewhere by car on a day like today.

The 2 other pleasure drivers I know of also live in the South, they are Christian (Courtney's former not-so-significant other) and her brother. Oh, and my boss from the flower shop.

Anyway, it's a little adventure and it's really beautiful.

I knew Dan would be able to see it my way!

Metrosexual Healing (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 05:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Add my brother to that list.

What I think is a much worse idea is the people I saw on bicycles on State St. and Wacker Drive. There was one guy on Wacker in front of Cathch slogging through drifts. It was after dark with taxis and buses swerving to avoid him since he there was pretty much no right lane and visibility was horrible.

DON'T BIKE, ASSBUTT!

Metrosexual Healing (crunkleJ), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 05:39 (seventeen years ago) link

My trip home (walking & then eventually an expensive taxi ride since no bus came) wasn't very interesting yesterday, but it took an hour and 15 minutes, which is a very long time considering how close I live to work. At one point I was standing on a corner knee deep in snow (there was nowhere else to stand), ice was whipping against my face, my toes felt like pebbles in my shoes, and my fingers ached through my gloves. The taxis passing me were already full. Then I started to cry. It was a blast.

I wouldn't last a day if I were one of the characters from Alive.

Calico (calico), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 14:15 (seventeen years ago) link

The Mexican hate stories remind me of when I was little and two much older cousins from Dallas came to visit us. One of them asked me if we had any blacks at our school. I said, yeah, about 5 I guess. Then she said what about Mexicans? I was like, Why would Mexicans be at our school??? And then she went on and on about how lucky I was not to have to deal with them and their lazy asses. I had never been exposed to anti-latino sentiments before and was completely bewildered.

Calico (calico), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 14:19 (seventeen years ago) link

man, yesterday on the train sucked. it was wicked crowded and i had to wait like 5 minutes before i could find a seat for my bag. anyway, i was with my friend brian and i was telling him about my last plane flight when i was cranking some tunes and totally rocking out in my seat. i was telling bri-guy how the nerd in the seat in back of me asked me to stop rocking and i was all "hey fielding mellish, i got a life to live, go big or go home dude." and kept rocking the fuck out. man i love dave matthews band.

anyway, around addison some broad pushed passed me and called me an asshole. i'm pretty sure she was a dyke.

After we got sent home early yesterday, I headed straight to Hopleaf for a couple of beers, picked up some dinner at the Middle Eastern Bakery, and spent the rest of the night reading Prep. ATTENTION JESSE I AM READING "PREP."

Exactly.

my actual commute home started with me using a half hour of annual leave so i could catch the 3:11 bus. at around 3:40 the 2:45 bus finally showed up. despite leaving 90 minutes earlier than i do on a normal day i got home 20 minutes later than i normally do. and when i got home i just felt so utterly defeated that i went to bed.

also, i upgraded my netflix account to get 3 movies at a time because i burn through those tv on dvd things so quickly. but i think the formula i'm going to use is 1 tv dvd, 1 movie, 1 music dvd. that should cover me for the weekend.

anyway, lost is on tonight. i should order a pizza.

my sister and i have been having a running political debate via email since last week but i am now totally jealous of her because she got to see this while i had to read about it in my inbox:

"We went to a Dennis event four years ago at Rivier
College in Nashua. He had a "warm up act" of these
two really geeky just-out-of-college types. They
claimed to be married. He was a human beat box/one
man band with some sort of electronic stuff taped to
him and she did interpretive dance. They called
themselves the Vibration Army. They wore regular
clothes with homemade tank tops on top of with a V
and an A in glittery material glued on them. It was
probably one of the top 5 funniest things I have ever
seen in my life. Note, that the crowd was probably
about 40 people."

Are you excited about being an aunt, Jenny?

I'm happy for them. That bro tends to get the cosmic shaft all the time so hopefully this will be a good happy thing in his life.
