feel like wo d12 this is a lateral move bc their inside presence was just stacked and now it's depleted

lakers havent had a legit point guard since... fuck I dont even know (nor do I pay attention enough)
― mayor jingleberriez, Friday, 9 December 2011 00:01 (twelve years ago) link
i sort of feel the same way xp
it's too bad that melo & cp3 are good friends, cuz they need to never play together -- on the other hand paul + amare playing together would be like a 2.5 hour orgasm
― v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 00:01 (twelve years ago) link
why is that?

Last legit Laker PG was Magic. Unless you're a huge fan of Nick Van Exel.

forgot about smush parker

are kobe and chris paul friends?
kinda feel like they'd hate each other.

― Carnitas, Friday, 9 December 2011 00:12 (twelve years ago) link
so wait I forgot what was the lockout about, cuz I didn't know it was about building more super teams in huge cities while cannibalizing the small markets
― ~occubarn~ (clay), Friday, 9 December 2011 00:16 (twelve years ago) link
yeah that was the owners whole endgame where you been?

@ChrisMannixSI: Heat in a tough spot financially but sources say the team is hoping that if amnestied Billups will push to play in Miami
WHOOP WHOOP
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 00:21 (twelve years ago) link
other hopes: howard will demand to play for miami at the vet minimum.

well kobe hates everyone and everyone hates kobe, so probably
― v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 00:46 (twelve years ago) link
I thought the whole reason why the lakers were so good was the triple threat they had in odum, bynum, gasol - the idea that they're gonna give up all that so they can go small with CP3 and KB8 is pretty lol
― The Love Song of L. Alfred Sotosyn (dayo), Friday, 9 December 2011 00:52 (twelve years ago) link
This would be so great for the Lakers if their coach wasn't horrible.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:05 (twelve years ago) link
let's not undersell the knicks spending 14m a year on a center whose toe makes his contract uninsurable.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:07 (twelve years ago) link
his toe?
― v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:09 (twelve years ago) link
my take on the lakers deal:
houston- why? Why load up on Pau now? Morey has done a great job of assembling young talent and picks and he cashes in on Pau?
Lakers- only really like it if they get D-Ho. Then it's obviously a mega coup.
Hornets- The winners of the trade in my book. Martin, Scola, Odom and a first rounder for a point guard who by all accounts will need microfracture surgery in the next 3 years? It's not quite as good as the Carmelo deal but it's damn close.

remember the trade to OKC? It got rescinded because the OKC doctors wouldn't sign off on Chandler's toe. as a result his contract is probably uninsurable.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:12 (twelve years ago) link
Amare's deal is also uninsurable. Great franchise plan they've got up there!
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:14 (twelve years ago) link
If Howard goes to LA along with CP3, I'm going to mail Mitch Kupchak some powdered anthrax. Or else just get really depressed. Or both.
― Aimless, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:14 (twelve years ago) link
I didn't realize CP3s knees were that bad
― dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:14 (twelve years ago) link
if that happens the rest of the nba season should just be lakers vs. heat every night xp
― dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:15 (twelve years ago) link

I kind of wonder how championships from shortened seasons are viewed in comparison with regular chips - like do people just not respect the spurs chip from the 50 game season as much as they do their other chips
― dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:16 (twelve years ago) link
That whole season is basically forgotten.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:17 (twelve years ago) link
that knicks team was so embarrassing
― v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:18 (twelve years ago) link
so even if dwight/kb8/cp3 win a chip this season they'd have to win one next season as well to 'leave a legacy' and by then kobe's knees are just gonna fall off
― dayo, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:18 (twelve years ago) link
the hornets might suck this year because of a short training camp, and their pg play will be bad, but this is not a bad nba rotation:
JackKevin Martin/Willie GreenLamar Odom/Trevor ArizaLuis Scola/Landry?Okafor
Throw in the 2012 knicks pick via the rockets and they could be ok in a year (in San Jose?)
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:25 (twelve years ago) link
(I think the knicks will suck this year)
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:26 (twelve years ago) link
the stupid thing is that the knicks screwed themselves over by getting melo. he's awesome, but deron or cp3 or howard would've made a ton more sense for them.
― v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:27 (twelve years ago) link
they also wildly overpaid.
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:27 (twelve years ago) link
whoa! you're talkin' baout the guy who took the Syracuse Orangemen to the championship, matt!
― Aimless, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:31 (twelve years ago) link
the syrcause version of hakim warrick would be the third best player on the knicks
― v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:34 (twelve years ago) link
kind of agree with this, at the current stage of the LAL's roster overhaul, at least:
Michael Wallace @WallaceNBA_ESPN -- Unless move had 2b made for personal, locker-room reasons, I don't c trade making LAL better. Gave up 2 clear advantages in depth/size.
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 01:42 (twelve years ago) link
hmm hmm
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA -- NBA owners have pushed commissioner David Stern to kill the deal sending Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell Y! Sports.
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 01:54 (twelve years ago) link
wow that would be so funny
― v-shasty, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:55 (twelve years ago) link
I don't see how he could kill it, since the only team getting ripped off is Houston.

yeah that's the line but this is totally on some supply-side "let the rich get richer and the wealth will trickle down to the milwaukie bucks" tip!

there's really nothing wrong with this deal!
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:57 (twelve years ago) link
odom and pau is a reasonable price to pay for Paul.
why would the nba step in if they didn't stop the Pau to LA deal?
― Matt Armstrong, Friday, 9 December 2011 01:58 (twelve years ago) link
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA -- Owners were irate in Board of Governors meeting with Stern, livid that the league-owned Hornets were allowed to make Paul deal, sources say
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:00 (twelve years ago) link
omg david stern please put the kabosh on this that would be like the most A+ way imaginable to start the season after this clusterfuck
― ~occubarn~ (clay), Friday, 9 December 2011 02:01 (twelve years ago) link
why would the NBA kill this deal, but not the earlier gasol deal? because the NBA owns the hornets now, and the owners are in an uproar that a protracted lockout, supposedly to ensure competitive balance and to screw the big-market teams, is shown to be a sham within a day of the resulting deal being ratified.
― Daniel, Esq., Friday, 9 December 2011 02:01 (twelve years ago) link
but it's a fair deal for the hornets!
