that track i guess isn't much of a story, but it kinda is -- very macro story

I kinda assume everyone's aware of this already: E-40 to drop THREE new albums on same day
― Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 8 December 2011 16:45 (twelve years ago) link
if i have a few bucks to spend that week i'm gonna buy them all just off the respect

Preordering that shit on amazon asap, no rocky
― boof troop (dealwithit.gif), Thursday, 8 December 2011 16:53 (twelve years ago) link
This is no dis to mixtapes. I like mixtapes. But you have some people putting out mixtapes when it really is their album, but [calling it a mixtape] is just a security blanket in case the project don’t perform well.
ha otm
― degas-dirty monet (lex pretend), Thursday, 8 December 2011 16:55 (twelve years ago) link
yeah I hate that shit
― Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 8 December 2011 17:01 (twelve years ago) link
the branding of actual well crafted albums as if they're free quickie mixtapes is funny but i can't imagine getting actually mad at it, like unwrapping a hershey's kiss and it's actually a gourmet chocolate truffle and you just throw it away in disgust
― Mr. Stevenson #2, Thursday, 8 December 2011 17:03 (twelve years ago) link
often spoilt by dj shouts and dubious quality though
― degas-dirty monet (lex pretend), Thursday, 8 December 2011 17:15 (twelve years ago) link
so kind of like the gourmet truffle is melted and a bit of the wrapper is stuck to it
― degas-dirty monet (lex pretend), Thursday, 8 December 2011 17:16 (twelve years ago) link
except we're talking about the mixtapes that are essentially albums (i.e. less dubious, less shouting)
― Mr. Stevenson #2, Thursday, 8 December 2011 17:18 (twelve years ago) link
i thought we were just talking about the mixtapes of album coherence/quality? yeah sometimes those are professionally presented but often they're thrown out totally slapdash (GUCCI) (TEEDRA)

this video is funny

I just don't like the way "mixtape" has come to be such a sloppily applied, catch-all term. Quality of individual mixtapes is irrelevant.
― Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 8 December 2011 17:29 (twelve years ago) link
calling something a "mixtape" these days tells me essentially nothing about the project.
― Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 8 December 2011 17:30 (twelve years ago) link
is it a collection of songs by different artists mixed together? a collection of all-new material by a single artist? a collection of cast-offs/unreleased songs by a single artist? WHO KNOWS
think it might be time for e-40 to slow up a bit
― v-shasty, Thursday, 8 December 2011 17:34 (twelve years ago) link
how about we give the albums a chance first
― Mr. Stevenson #2, Thursday, 8 December 2011 17:36 (twelve years ago) link
I def preferred the first two Revenue Retrievin volumes to Overtime/Nighttime but I got a lot of respect for musicians with this kind of work ethic. bring it on sez I
― Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 8 December 2011 17:40 (twelve years ago) link
Impossible to hate e40's grind imo.

I really like that new Juicy J mixtape.
― rennavate, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:08 (twelve years ago) link
Eh there kind of all the same to me, 3-5 good tracks and the rest all lexlugerysamey. Probably could make a killer 10 song mix of his 2011 stuff though.
― Scotty Magee, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:19 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah, I think the last few tracks on Blue Dream & Lean are especially strong, though ("I Don't Play With Guns" through "Flood Out the Club").
― rennavate, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:22 (twelve years ago) link
Speakz is good on "Deez Bitches Rollin'."
― rennavate, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:23 (twelve years ago) link
uh huh.
Great cover too.

Whiney argued to me that Meek Mill is 'boring' which I think is totally wrong, so as an argument, I'd like to link to a promising rapper from Detroit named Fowl (he won a freestyle contest that was judged by eminem apparently) who is totally using the Meek Mill flow on this song, and I think it shows how meek's flow functions (by being a bit more baldly obvious in its message) for listeners & how influential meek could end up being / already is

― joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Thursday, 8 December 2011 21:59 (twelve years ago) link
(i'm not linking to more meek because i'm assuming he's heard more than enough already)
― joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Thursday, 8 December 2011 22:00 (twelve years ago) link
can't remember which one of you guys pointed this out but yeah..i hear a lot of peedi crack in meek mill
― gucc_ebooks (tpp), Thursday, 8 December 2011 22:11 (twelve years ago) link
I'm just not sure what's so unique about Meek Mill's flow? (Which isn't to say I don't like the guy.)
― rennavate, Thursday, 8 December 2011 22:12 (twelve years ago) link
i wouldn't say it's unique, he just brings this very urgent energy to his rapping and is convincing about it
― degas-dirty monet (lex pretend), Thursday, 8 December 2011 22:14 (twelve years ago) link
exactly. he def has a peedi influence but i think that's more of a general philly sound than it is about him biting peedi
― joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Thursday, 8 December 2011 22:29 (twelve years ago) link
would someone disagree if i said he's like a midpt between peedi & freeway?
No, I think that's pretty accurate.

I TOLD HER MEET ME IN THE BATHROOM....
cannot get this out of my head!!
― gucc_ebooks (tpp), Thursday, 8 December 2011 22:38 (twelve years ago) link
Meek's allright imho. Too bad he's so often paired up with Rick Ross, who I can't stand.
