oooh, the annual 4-4-2 list is out. should we poll it?

"On this stage a 7-1 away win is an exception. Maybe I'm naive when I think it normally doesn't work like this, but if Zagreb gave the match away they should be punished," Frank De Boer said after a night that consigned Ajax to the Europa League.

"But I think it is hard to find any evidence in this case," he told reporters.

funniest placing is rooney at #6 obv.

gerrard #78th best player despite playing like 3 games.

big popppa hoy, Thursday, 8 December 2011 14:15 (twelve years ago) link

Essien is at #65????? No wonder print media is dying.

big popppa hoy, Thursday, 8 December 2011 14:18 (twelve years ago) link

Barmby would run Rooney a lot closer in a pie-eating contest.

top ten is ozil, rvi, pique, silva, worlds best right back, villa, iniesta, xavi, cronaldo, messi.

so basically if real or barca didn't exist, they'd think rooney the best player of the year.

That's it, you can type out the good bits for us

How the fuck do they decide these things if Torres makes it? Not only makes it but comes ahead of di natale, sanchez and hazard?

Complaining about Rooney's placing when this dude is in the list is some serious fiddling while Rome burns:

tevez-rooney gap is an unjustifiable mystery

bloating forecast: ruff swells (p much resigned to deems), Thursday, 8 December 2011 14:55 (twelve years ago) link

I make it 78/100, and 60 of the top 70, play for those dozen clubs

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 8 December 2011 14:56 (twelve years ago) link

xp

Barmby-level performance, imo, flatters rooney somewhat

I know goals are only part of the equation obviously, but . . .

Drogba - 2004-present (7 seasons) - 98 goals - 14 goals per season.

It's ridiculous to say that Rooney's the 6th best player in the world, and just as ridiculous to say that he should be in the England side instead of Sturridge based on current form, but to say that he's been top-end-of-mediocre over the last decade seems almost willfully challopsy.

NotEnough, Thursday, 8 December 2011 14:56 (twelve years ago) link

anyone-rooney gap is a etc.

didnt tevez retire or something

big popppa hoy, Thursday, 8 December 2011 14:57 (twelve years ago) link

drogba games played vs rooney games played in that time, pls?

you can be willfully challopsy & believe it & be right- depending on how prevalent & correct the accepted wisdom is

years tapping in from ronaldo/valencia/scholes vs years watching ffl boot it from anywhere while mikel and kalou do..... not much of anything i guess

Not replacing Messi at the top with, I dunno Jermaine Jenas or someone is an abdication of duty.

Matt DC, Thursday, 8 December 2011 15:05 (twelve years ago) link

id probably rate rooney at suarez' level or thereabouts, maybe 30/40ish on that list

nakhchivan, Thursday, 8 December 2011 15:06 (twelve years ago) link

now we're talkin boys

bloating forecast: ruff swells (p much resigned to deems), Thursday, 8 December 2011 15:07 (twelve years ago) link

That said, hysterically flapping because he's higher than some kid with an inflated price tag who's only performed in the French or Dutch league so far is nagl.

Matt DC, Thursday, 8 December 2011 15:08 (twelve years ago) link

reckon suarez can still improve, wayne is never going to be as good as that goalfest season he had a few years back.

plus suarez is a lot more sporting and seems a genuinely good guy.

Would love to be a fly on the wall when Drogba looks at the list and sees himself 10 places below Torres though.
