actually, CAD, there's something more going on:
@DanielEade: I believe CP3 will end up in Boston, after today's revelations about the loophole in contract extensions in new CBA.
what's this loophole?
― Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 8 December 2011 03:38 (twelve years ago) link
shocked that a deal hammered out in 19 hours has a loophole
― v-shasty, Thursday, 8 December 2011 03:40 (twelve years ago) link
i'm not surprised about that, either, but (a) there were other loopholes, which the NBA acted quickly to close as soon as they were exposed and (b) what is this loophole, assuming it exists?

C's should totally rent CP3. Only players under contract next year are Avery Bradley and Paul Pierce. If he resigns, you can get another max dude under the cap (Dwight? I can dream); if he doesn't, you get to build a whole new team anyways.

Alex Kennedy: After using the amnesty clause on Richard Jefferson, don't be surprised if the Spurs sign Shane Battier. There's mutual interest. about 27 minutes ago
:O
spurs also picking up TJ ford for vet's min, not a bad pickup to back parker. just as long as he never shoots 3s.

http://www.nba.com/2011/news/12/07/chris-paul-extension/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt2
Chris Paul will not commit to signing a contract extension after this season with either the Golden State Warriors or Los Angeles Clippers if he is traded to either team by the New Orleans Hornets, citing the potential financial hit if he were to do that rather than becoming a free agent and signing a new deal with a new team next summer, according to league sources. That has left potential deals with both teams in limbo
― k3vin k., Thursday, 8 December 2011 05:08 (twelve years ago) link
right, but it would be the same thing as the d will situation right? if either of those teams traded for him they'd be able to offer him substantially more money than any other team? i guess they'd have to assume the risk that he walks away from 20+ m

bucher: Hearing that Shane Battier is bound for the Miami Heat. Not strong enough to write a news story but no league talk of him going elsewhere.

whoa
― k3vin k., Thursday, 8 December 2011 06:43 (twelve years ago) link
"Rip-through" moves, in which an offensive player swings the ball into a defender's outstretched arm and then attempts a shot once he has created contact, will be considered non-shooting fouls if the contact begins before the offensive player starts his shooting motion. Also, on drives to the basket, a shooting foul will be called only if contact occurs after the offensive player has begun his shooting motion, not after he has initiated his leap toward the basket.

lame
The league will also make traveling in the post and on the perimeter a point of emphasis, with a player hopping off of and landing on the same foot viewed as an automatic violation.
uh
Referees also will be hyper-vigilant about defenders making contact with offensive players when they're in the air and fully extended attempting to score. In most cases, expect that kind of foul to draw a Flagrant Level 2, which is two free throws, possession of the ball and the defender being ejected."That type of contact was a trend last season and it's really dangerous," Jackson said.

The last rule is necessary because the 24-second shot clock will now be equipped to show 10ths for the final five seconds and work as a "true" clock. From a technical standpoint, the old shot clock began with 24.9 seconds and expired with .9 left. Now the clock will switch from 24 to 23 seconds after .1 second has expired.
the hell?
― cad, Thursday, 8 December 2011 12:00 (twelve years ago) link
nah. but getting battier court-time will require creative lineups, many of which will have bosh at center. he's much bigger this year (apparently hit the weight-room with alonzo mourning, and put on 10 -- 15 pounds), but he'd still be an undersized center. anyway, there's a good argument to be made for the versitility it gives the heat, e.g., Lineup A (haslem -- bron -- bosh -- wade -- battier).

totally. but on the other hand, it's hard to fault riley for refusing to overpay just okay centers (e.g., dalembert). i love bosh's game, but he's still going to be an undersized center when he plays at that position, so . . . .
