i'm not "into" coffee

Lingbert, Friday, 6 February 2009 21:57 (fifteen years ago) link

i find it can have amazing richness and depth that is v v comforting.

tehresa, Friday, 6 February 2009 22:00 (fifteen years ago) link

harbl i am forcing myself to drink green tea. 2 cups today. not so bad.

smoove operator, Saturday, 7 February 2009 01:06 (fifteen years ago) link

i used to have to "force" myself (not really force, i mean i just wasn't that into it but i wanted something hot w/o caffeine so i would) but now it's just a habit. i drink 2 huge cups most evenings without even thinking about it.

harbl, Saturday, 7 February 2009 01:33 (fifteen years ago) link

that is what i'm trying to do. it's not gross, so i'm not gagging on it or anything. but i'm really lazy about getting enough liquids everyday. this is part of my (probably short-lived) attempt at being healthier. i discovered last night that i'm turning into quite a fattey, time to put a stop to that!

smoove operator, Saturday, 7 February 2009 01:55 (fifteen years ago) link

drinkin' some spiritz y'all

I just had a bottle of Crane Lake Petite Syrah, a 3/$10 wine, which may be my new 2 buck Chuck. Gt it at Sprouts, a Fresh and Easy type store.

Last night tried for the first time an Original Sazerac. It was interesting.

andrew m., Thursday, 22 December 2011 15:14 (twelve years ago) link

The only sazerac I've had was terrible, but I don't know if that's the way they all taste or what.

jaymc, Thursday, 22 December 2011 15:26 (twelve years ago) link

I'm not a coctail drinker usually, so I don't have much to compare it to. "Interesting" is about all I could muster. Was in New Orleans recently and read all about the origins and was intrigued. Next time I'm down there I'm gonna try one at the recommended bar and see what the difference is.

andrew m., Thursday, 22 December 2011 15:35 (twelve years ago) link

a well-made sazerac should be delicious for just about anyone who likes whiskey. it's kind of a fussy drink though--easy to get the flavor thrown off.

cad, Thursday, 22 December 2011 15:54 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah the one I had tasted sort of like cherry cough syrup, IIRC?

jaymc, Thursday, 22 December 2011 16:07 (twelve years ago) link

yeah that's......not correct.

cad, Thursday, 22 December 2011 16:09 (twelve years ago) link

Ha, yeah, I just googled the list of ingredients and was like "this seems like something I should like!"

jaymc, Thursday, 22 December 2011 16:11 (twelve years ago) link

imo this guy is otm, especially the part following "my preferred method":

sippin on some sazerac

OH NOES, Thursday, 22 December 2011 16:12 (twelve years ago) link

Also had some Suntory Yamazaki 12-year. They've just recently gotten wider distribution in our area, I've been told. I don't think I'll be switching loyalties from my beloved islays, but it was delicious. Complex and very very smooth. The smoothness belied its age.

My First Sazerac was enjoyed at Galatoire's

There have been many since

C.K. Dexter Holland, Thursday, 22 December 2011 17:16 (twelve years ago) link

My first was at Mr. B's, then the Pelican Club, Christian's, Commander's Palace, and on down the list. It's pretty much a street sign for how well a meal in NOLA is gonna go.

B.L.A.M., Thursday, 22 December 2011 17:20 (twelve years ago) link

<3 Mr. B's.

C.K. Dexter Holland, Thursday, 22 December 2011 17:22 (twelve years ago) link

Lots of places you can get a great sazerac; have never had anything that matches Mr. B's barbequed shrimp.

C.K. Dexter Holland, Thursday, 22 December 2011 17:28 (twelve years ago) link

Forreals. I recommend everyone go there at least for the appetizer of that wonderful, I-don't-care-how-messy-my-shirt-gets bowl of butter sauce slathered goodness. Has never disappointed anyone I've sent there.

B.L.A.M., Thursday, 22 December 2011 22:09 (twelve years ago) link

I think I preferred their gumbo to Commander's, too. Heresy, I'm sure, but they're basically the same restaurant anyway.

I would be drinking Lacryma Christi, if I could afford it. Seems most appropriate to the season.

Aimless, Friday, 23 December 2011 00:28 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i am always wary of anything containing syrup but a mission of mine has been to try making stronger syrups i can use less of. this might be a good place to start.

tehresa, Friday, 30 December 2011 17:12 (twelve years ago) link

woahhh

tehresa, Friday, 30 December 2011 17:13 (twelve years ago) link

some friends brought me some of the Dogfish Robert Johnson's Hellhound On My Ale as thanks for shoveling their walk while away for the holidays...it is very nice, crazy hoppy. the whole robert johnson thing makes me cringe a lil bit, but whatevs, good beer!
