"We're not struggling."

Wonder if his plan was to come 3rd in the Europa League all along.

xxp So he can concentrate on not winning the league, natch.

Dunphy fucking loves this. I said Utd wouldn't win another major title and people called me crazy. Well they won the league but...

Dutch media en masse think the game in Zagreb was rigged...

To be fair the goals Lyon made were... awful. Zagreb players just standing still.

"If I had the money today, I'd put it on Neymar," Wenger told The Sun.

"You can't say that Neymar is Pele as he had won the World Cup by the age of 17.

"He has the potential to be one of the future great strikers but at the moment there's a big difference between the Brazilian league and a European league."

YOU HAVE THE MONEY, SO YES PLZ

To correct a comment I made earlier, Chelsea can't get Barca or Real, as they came top of their group. For some reason I thought they came 2nd. P easy draws for the teams who went through top of their group, only Leverkusan and the two Spanish teams to care about and Arse/Chelsea should beat any of them. Wld love Trabzonspor or Basle.

big popppa hoy, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 22:20 (twelve years ago) link

cska not trabzanspor

I'm really looking forward to Chelsea v City now.

Hm, Jibe moves to the land of the betting syndicate; a few weeks later, Lyon pull off a result like that. They only equalised on the stroke of half-time as well.

hahaha, love this ! hell yeah lyon, i can't believe they made it through. i will not listen to a word said anywhere about wrongly disallowed goals in the ajax game or zagreb not even trying to play :) this just made my very very long day a whole lot better. i wanted to stay up to watch the game (which starts at 4am here) but decided against. kind of regret it. i'm gonna ask: anyone know where i could see the entire game?

jibé, Thursday, 8 December 2011 02:28 (twelve years ago) link

also between this and marseille, i just can't believe what happened! Usually french clubs manage to fuck up when they're in good position to qualify - well ok, lille was there for that - but what lyon and marseille did is blowing my mind .

Phil Neville is still smashing it:

"When I first came through as a full back, my main objective was that my first tackle on the winger I was coming up against had to be a hard one. I had to smash him basically.

"Smash your winger early on you don't see him again -that was the rule of thumb 15 years ago. But football has progressed. We're on tackling at the moment, but maybe diving is as big an issue, maybe goal line technology is."

James, Thursday, 8 December 2011 09:23 (twelve years ago) link

url is a 'smashing' punchline.

"when I first came through as a full back, my main objective was giving away penalties or getting sent off. that's why man u sold me and i got swiftly ditched from the england squad."

This wink and little thumbs up from Zagreb defender Domagoj Vida after Gomís' 1-5 is feeding speculation here that the game in Zagreb was rigged.

I don't care, I congratulate Jibé with this fantastic result! :-)

Rooney ban reduced to 2 games. So he can return for the Ukraine game. If he plays like he did last night night England are screwed anyway.

pandemic, Thursday, 8 December 2011 10:51 (twelve years ago) link

was gonna say, the assumption that current-form rooney is even good enough for the squad shows a serious paucity of either strike options or willingness to face facts

rooney has been shit for a season and a half now, bar little bumps in form. the young lad from city daniel sturridge should be getting all his hype.

Bryan Ruiz: “I didn’t want to go to Fulham at all. I was happy with Tottenham’s previous interest in me. They are a dream club. Attractive financial terms, and a talk with Martin Jol, dragged me over the line.”
