I wish I could get that made into a sticker to put on my guitar.

Boo hiss to Matt DC for choosing something else exciting over us.

Kate, is my email about the setlist correct?

Yay, gig! Yay badges!

marianna longmire (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 14:53 (seventeen years ago) link

What, you want me to do real work, as opposed to posting pictures of badges and talking about cute boys? Come on!

masonic boom (kate), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 15:03 (seventeen years ago) link

More talk about cute boys! I like cute boys. I like my cute boy.

marianna longmire (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 15:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh yeah, and the boy playing it isn't bad, either.

Given gthat I am still in france and have to make some london drops I rate my chances as 50%.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 16:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Bah, no one is going to come... and all my IRL friends are going to the French Disconnection instead. :-(

masonic boom (kate), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 16:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Does anyone have a red guitar I can borrow?

I have suddenly realised that my entire outfit I am wearing tonight, down to my fingernails, is all red, and my guitar is green and gold!

I shall look like a Christmas tree!

masonic boom (kate), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 16:13 (seventeen years ago) link

A very sexy Christmas tree!

Do post pictures, I'm sure the lot of you will look simply scrumptious!

I HAVE A RED GUITAR!

g0000blar (g00blar), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 16:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Do you have three chords and the truth?

masonic boom (kate), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear Mr. G00blar,

Pls 2 bring to gig tonight:

1) 1 guitar (red)
2) 1 guitarist (pointy-nosed and blond)

Errr... maybe if I'm really lucky, I can get you or Jim to play the whole set for me, as well, and then I won't have to do *any* work! Hurrah!

masonic boom (kate), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 16:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Aaaaiyyy!!! Lookit the time! I should be going to soundcheck soon.

God, I hope the other bands brought a guitar amp...

masonic boom (kate), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 17:09 (seventeen years ago) link

RUIN!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 30 November 2006 12:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Gooblar and his boy friend and lady friend are lovely! Gig was fun, too.

marianna longmire (marianna lcl), Thursday, 30 November 2006 14:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Thanks! Lady friend?

g00000blar (g00blar), Thursday, 30 November 2006 14:25 (seventeen years ago) link

She told me her name twice, but I was v. v. drunk. Eleanor? (sp)

masonic boom (kate), Thursday, 30 November 2006 14:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Ah, Elena. Yes, she is lovely.

g000blar (g00blar), Thursday, 30 November 2006 14:27 (seventeen years ago) link

BTW can anyone remember the name of the band that headlined on Wednesday? They were possibly the most Lex band ever.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 December 2006 11:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Ebony Bones, like what it says on the flier.

Ed (dali), Friday, 1 December 2006 11:22 (seventeen years ago) link

I think the lex would implode in a puff of contradictions.

Ed (dali), Friday, 1 December 2006 11:25 (seventeen years ago) link

They were possibly the most Lex best band ever (except for Shimura Curves, obvs)

Fixed.

g0000blar (g00blar), Friday, 1 December 2006 11:34 (seventeen years ago) link

To be honest I missed most of the set, because I saw a man with a beret and thought they were going to be horrendous funk rock nonsense. Bad move.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 1 December 2006 11:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, actually they were wicked funk rock nonsense.

g0000blar (g00blar), Friday, 1 December 2006 11:38 (seventeen years ago) link

They weren't funk rock at all. They were 60s Motown/dirty garage with a side helping of ESG. They were very, very good. And I think they would make the Lex's head explode.

masonic boom (kate), Friday, 1 December 2006 12:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Good helping of dancehall sensibilities as well.

Ed (dali), Friday, 1 December 2006 12:22 (seventeen years ago) link

they sound potentially great!

lexpretend (lexpretend), Friday, 1 December 2006 12:22 (seventeen years ago) link

they have no myspace or website I can find, I want to see them again.

Ed (dali), Friday, 1 December 2006 12:23 (seventeen years ago) link

OK that is a lie, I couldn't find a myspace for them when I was drunk and tired on wednesday night.

Ed (dali), Friday, 1 December 2006 12:24 (seventeen years ago) link

You forgot the awesome dresses/skeleton suits! Also the singer is ridiculously hot.

Ed (dali), Friday, 1 December 2006 12:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Bloody students!!!

Stop talking about how brilliant they were. Talk about how brilliant *WE* WERE some more people! Humph!

masonic boom (kate), Friday, 1 December 2006 12:33 (seventeen years ago) link

God, they seem to play an insane amount of gigs.

Don't these people have jobs?

masonic boom (kate), Friday, 1 December 2006 12:34 (seventeen years ago) link

So you still think you're going on around 10pm, shimuras?

substitute, mitya for him (mitya), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 13:13 (seventeen years ago) link

No, apparently we're going on at 9.30 exactly.

At the moment they're saying that we're only playing 5 songs. Which is a bit... HUNH?!?!? since we were told 30 minutes before, and 5 of our songs is only 15 minutes!

If we *do* only get 5 songs to play, any requests?

masonic boom (kate), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 13:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Maybe they thought "Shimura Curves = prog = 6 minute songs"

Johnney B has zeros off the line (stigoftdumpilx), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 13:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Rivers of Clerkenwell, Mother, Sticky & Brown, Magnus, Noyfriend.

Easy :)

Although I think that probably clocks in at about 10mins. Prog Noyfriend out for ages.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 13:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Like, most "rock bands" songs are about 5 minutes long. So 5 songs plus about 5 minutes of faffing = half an hour.

Our songs average two and a half to three minutes long, and they're all on a sequence to minimise faffing. When I say 8 Songs = Half An Hour, I mean, 8 song sequence = 29 min 48 seconds! I think we've won that discussion.

Wow, we haven't done Lost Rivers in ages! We were going to do an Elephants revival, but I don't think we have time. :-(

Sticky and Noyfriend are both on The List.

masonic boom (kate), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 14:02 (seventeen years ago) link

I was kind of joking, but I think you should do 8 'proper' Shimuras songs rather than 7 plus Bizarre Love Triangle. I mean it's obviously one of the most amazing songs ever etc but I'd much rather hear an all-original set.

(I think you should do Lost Rivers AND Elephants personally, but then I am old-school).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 14:05 (seventeen years ago) link

The girls don't like performing Lost Rivers because it's mostly instrumental except for little bursts of singing, which means they stand around taking their coats off.

Elephants revival might still be the way forward (I can't remember exactly how long it is, though - is it under 3 minutes?) but I promised my sisX0r she could do guest vocals on BLT, since she had to live through the worst of my Bernard Sumner obesssion.

masonic boom (kate), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 14:07 (seventeen years ago) link

'lost rivers' is like my favourite shimura song!

lexpretend (lexpretend), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 14:16 (seventeen years ago) link

really? Hunh. I would have thought (Just Keep My Name) Out Of Your Blog would be.

Damn, which reminds me I forgot to remix a less distorted version because the bassline on that thing rips speaker cones.

We only have two songs over 4 minutes - Stronger and BLT.

Would it be cheeky to do a set that doesn't include the single?

masonic boom (kate), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Plus, you know...

DANCING BOYS!!!!!!

masonic boom (kate), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 14:21 (seventeen years ago) link

you know, the dancing boys does nothing for me (although that's probably not the point, is it? :)

ack, 9:30 will be tough, methinks.

kv_nol (kv_nol), Friday, 8 December 2006 12:50 (seventeen years ago) link

I think you should carry on until you have no original members, like Soft Machine or Dr. Feelgood. That should be the ultimate aim of any band.

Dr.C (Dr.C), Friday, 8 December 2006 13:01 (seventeen years ago) link

lol heroin

amon (amon), Friday, 8 December 2006 13:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay a couple of people connected with the band have requested I lock this thread for a bit and, as its by extension a thread about them themselves, I'm going to do that.
