burger king figured out how to wean me off my seemingly relentless fascination with bacon cheeseburgers by relentlessly advertising their BK Stacker on teevee with sordid pictures of meat on cheese on meat on meat on cheese on meat on meat on cheese on bread and then a bunch of little people in hard hats making crap jokes, plus that awful voiceover guy being all cowboy truckdriver about the fact there's no vegetables or other fixin's on the thing, color me impressed, right. seems like Crispin Porter + Bogusky might have run a little dry.

when my dad was in town w/friends of his.. we went to clyde's, but it was restaurant week so nowhere good was even an option

TBOT, I'd suggest maybe Old Ebbitt Grill? I also like the cheeseburgers and fried fishes very much at Circle Bistro, but they may only be on the bar menu. Other possibilities to be Clyde's (as mentioned by dar1a, btw Clyde's owns Old Ebbitt), Cafe Saint-Ex, or I bet Oceanaire or M&S would work. Palena's front room cafe has the most amazing burger but I can't predict fried fish.

q I have to say I think after his last suggestion I think I'll stick to taking brian's random suggestions for various little unknown type places and come to grips with the fact that "where do I shot cheeseburger or fish+chips that is good" is the kind of question you ask when you are a person who A) does not spend a lot of time in the city B) sucks at life C) completely deserves being sent to Clyde's or the Ocea-Fucking-Naire to be held in contempt by the wait staff and assorted regular downtown dbags
