I am recommending a book! It is called Fingersmith by Sarah Waters and it has Victorian ladies and ladies' maids and intrigue and villains and diabolical plots and forbidden sex and hair styling tips for base-born London girls.

I vote for the Fountainhead. I was just saying I haven't been there in awhile and I miss it.

I really hated Fountainhead the first time I went there, but I would be willing to give it another try. It seems like forevers since I've seen some of you guys.

In other news I had a good meeting with the director of a grad program at IIT yesterday afternoon. Still not sure if it's something I truly want to pursue but it answered some nagging questions/thoughts I had about going back to school.

i just don't know how fountainhead will deal with a group, that's my only concern

The Fountainhead is fine with groups but we can't waltz in with ten people at 8 on Saturday and expect to get a table is the only thing. So in planning, we'll need to arrive kind of early.

Fountainhead is awesome for me, obv. However, we are seeing Eazy's show on Saturday and then having dinner afterward. Fortunately, that's still early-ish: the show'll be over before 5 PM. But just saying: I probably wouldn't be able to get to Fountainhead much earlier than 7:30 or 8.

jenny, i loved fingersmith--i should read more sarah waters. i keep thinking i shld read tipping the velvet and then i keep forgetting. (the bbc series for that one is great fun, saw it yrs ago so i won't remember the plot enough to spoil the book)

i'm in a rut, alteranting btw trashy YA fiction and literary short stories. victorian lesbian fun might help.

You say the BBC series for Fingersmith or for Tipping the Velvet? Because I will watch all the BBC serieseses for all of her books forever.

This book has all the delights of a Victorian novel. I feel kind of old and jaded and unable to be surprised by plot twists but I've been totally taken off guard about four times by this book. Also Victorian lesbians = A++.

i'm in a reading blank spot right now, not sure what i feel like reading. downloaded a history of WWII last night but it might be too grim.

I'm Hunger Games-ing it.

jenny, i meant the tipping the velvet BBC series. so entertaining.

between my silliness and short story reading, i'm reading a novel that's good but kind of slow at times. for my ridic attn span, anyway. red on red--crime fiction that isn't so genre-y, more character based and less actiony. i keep checking out the ebook again and again because i'm too scrambled to read much of it at times but want to keep reading.

I and/or Sara will probably be up for some fountainhead, especially since it's across the street. However, I'm working on Saturday so I might end up getting there a bit later on...

R and I went to a beer tasting/beer talk gathering for a charity she's involved with last night at Hopleaf. Besides the tasty beerz and interesting factz we learned that Hopleaf is expanding, basically doubling in size, taking over the space adjacent to them to the south.

Interesting. I may be going to H'leaf on Sunday.

I'm reading Andrew Earles' book on Husker Du, which is like terribly disappointing. For one thing, he couldn't get Mould to take part (which, can't fault Earles for that since Mould was writing a book of his own), so there's a whole lot of "blah blah said that Bob said" stuff that makes me uncomfortable. Additionally, its just really awkward reading in general. Each and every time he talks about a peripheral person, he describes them by full name every time, like "tour soundman John Smith" and three paragraphs later, "so thought tour soundman John Smith". And there have been more than a couple places where nearly word-for-word paragraphs have been repeated at various points.

Anyway, I'm disappointed because I've really been wanting to learn more about Husker Du and there seems be a lot of interesting things to say about them, this book just isn't cutting it.

you should just listen to tons of husker du!!

did you read the grunge oral history? you should read that instead, it's fun.

listening to a shit ton of husker du will be way more entertaining than reading that book, promise

I am listening to tons of them! This week has been full of pre-Zen Arcade stuff, which is the era I always kinda ignored.

That grunge oral history is on my list, probably get to it after Electric Eden which is currently on deck.
