LOL av club listing that saigon album

v-shasty, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 01:03 (twelve years ago) link

kinda weird that they list the points/albums w/ so little people? "coming in at number four, with a whole FOUR votes..."

v-shasty, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 01:05 (twelve years ago) link

Look, Nathan Rabin had been waiting a damn long time for that album and he was damned if he wasn't going to enjoy it

haha all i cld think was 'why did the av club change their eoy list format to match an ilx ballot poll?'. i was disappointed they didnt list the no. of #1 voters as well

i have been a Wye Oak superfan since before they were Wye Oak and was at one of their very first shows and love any success they get, but the latest album was really not their best work, the EP from last year slays it

43 AZARI & III - RECKLESS WITH YOUR LOVE

I thought that was 2009 ? Cause if we're allowed to vote for it again because the album came out in 2011 I will !

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 02:51 (twelve years ago) link

i wouldn't base anything you do on an NME editorial decision

v-shasty, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 02:52 (twelve years ago) link

That NME albums list isn't that bad actually, although I may be influenced by Let England Shake at #1 and Katy B in the top 10. Singles list is a bore though.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 10:35 (twelve years ago) link

That said there's something a bit scraping-the-barrel about the NME albums list, like they were really running out of ideas by #45 or so and couldn't have put together a top 60 if they tried.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 10:37 (twelve years ago) link

not enough shit uk indie acts. had to start using their brains.

The Loops Haunt track is apparently "the biggest, baddest record you’ll hear anywhere this year with a guitar solo".

los krampusinos! (pomplamau5), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 13:57 (twelve years ago) link

(it's IDM-ish post-dubstep btw)

YES to "deep inside" and "pharaohs"

i think they ran out of ideas by #6 when they continued repping for Arctic Monkeys

sandbox banned socks (Mr. Stevenson #2), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:00 (twelve years ago) link

Not to play cap'n save the NME here, but this year's Arctic Monkeys album is actually better than their last couple. Still nowhere near top-ten worthy though.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:01 (twelve years ago) link

They put Alex Turner's Submarine soundtrack on there as well though. Which was actually quite pleasant in the film but having it as an album of the year is indicative of a dearth of ideas.

Number None, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:04 (twelve years ago) link

i guess they're still actually popular in the uk, it'd just been like 3 years since i'd even been reminded they exist

sandbox banned socks (Mr. Stevenson #2), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:05 (twelve years ago) link

Oh I'm not arguing that the NME doesn't have a dearth of ideas, just saying that the Arctic Monkeys album appearance probably isn't the worst offense on the list. Actually I'm kind of surprised they didn't toss in the other Gallagher bro's album too.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:07 (twelve years ago) link

Surprised because lol NME, not because it is any good or anything.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:07 (twelve years ago) link

yeah I quite like the Monkeys record.

Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:12 (twelve years ago) link

I thought those Alex Turner songs had the effect of killing the emotional moments in Submarine stone dead actually.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:29 (twelve years ago) link

from a personal aversion to Turner? his voice?

Number None, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:32 (twelve years ago) link

Nah while I'm not particularly into him I don't have much of a problem with Turner or his voice either. It's just that it was an emotional enough movie anyway, and it really didn't need sensitive acoustic busker ballads indicating when the viewer should feel sad.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:41 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, it was a good movie, but when he started singing it suddenly killed it because y'know, "oh, it's the Arctic Monkeys guy singing". So many US indie films have been guilty of doing this - crowbarring music from some indie act and it feels like you're being force-fed these acts in a kind of "Of course you like Moldy Peaches, don't you?" kind of way. I felt similar about Submarine, so I hope it's not a trend the UKers will continue.

Ralph Molina, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 14:53 (twelve years ago) link

James Ferraro at #1 apparently.

END BRONY CAPITALISM (sean doily), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 15:12 (twelve years ago) link

I have to say that, despite FACT's best attempts to make it seem horrible, that Loops Haunt track is outstanding

OH NOES, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 15:15 (twelve years ago) link

Looks like it, Sean xp

los krampusinos! (pomplamau5), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 15:16 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah i got my digital edition today. Will try to type some of it out when I can.

Ralph Molina, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 15:30 (twelve years ago) link

Oh damn, we don't have a Wire thread on the sandbox, do we? I'm excited as they should be using my photos for the CooS review.

Illia Rump (emil.y), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 15:32 (twelve years ago) link

even with Kreayshawn, this section of the FACT list is so so sooooooo much better than what they posted yesterday

OH NOES, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 15:34 (twelve years ago) link

Aw, congrats on that!

los krampusinos! (pomplamau5), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 15:36 (twelve years ago) link

Hmm...I thought that all print subscribers could now access the digital edition but I can't see how to make it work (I don't have an exact editions account). I guess I'll have to wait and see if it has been delivered at home.

Complete lack of love for the DJ Quik album in these lists. Should we be surprised?

millmeister, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 16:01 (twelve years ago) link

No. With the exception of Jeff Weiss, the only people who've loved that record post here.

Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 16:02 (twelve years ago) link

was there much love for blaqkout in that year's non-ILM lists?

this applies to like...at least 3/4 of all my favourite albums this year. i don't know whether people didn't like them or just didn't bother hearing them despite all my repping.
