there are a bunch of venues (mostly mentioned by 69) that are good for individual shows, Black Cat definitely has the densest/most reliable schedule. Also check Galaxy Hut (ESPECIALLY this sunday) and DC9.

For guitar bands playing to 150-800 person crowds, Black Cat should be the #1 choice of any touring band coming through DC.

i can't remember the last time i was at a show with more than 300-350 people.

xpost- i'm trying to get to boston for the blips/ponys/turpentine brothers show! two of the ponys are friends of mine and my friend matt is on tour with them. they'll be back in chicago when i'm in nyc. are they playing dc on a weekend?

A this point it's a built-in-crowd/staff/location issue, as a lineup that would draw 200 at the rock&roll hotel would draw 400 at the black cat.

I know this really has nothing to do with which venues you should check out, kevin, but I think it's interesting.

i'm going to nyc 3/29-4/2 (i took the 3rd off from work as well) so i doubt i'm going anywhere immediately before then. ought to be a great show though.

i only didnt mention galaxy hut because its not in DC - it is my total favorite place to play in the area, though. DC9 OTOH, is beat. ive never seen or played a great show there
