i disagree, it was houllier turned heskey into heskey, before that he was p much unstoppable at leicester

ie you still have to coach a big man, even if what they do seems simple

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:49 (twelve years ago) link

a poor man's emile heskey

That's gotta hurt

Tony Hart land (Deep in the Tony Hart land), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:49 (twelve years ago) link

how long until we get to say lol buying in form strikers from holland

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 13:01 (twelve years ago) link

with regard to suarez? pretty long time i should think.

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 13:32 (twelve years ago) link

Huh xp? Have you seen him, he's playing well.

Have you watched the game yet pandemic? Would be interested to hear your thoughts on Carroll in this performance specifically.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 13:38 (twelve years ago) link

Can't tell if Carroll is doing things well or if we're just desperate to pounce on anything half decent and claim it's a sign he's gonna be bloody fantastic.

Chris, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:15 (twelve years ago) link

he's excellent at fouling opposition defenders tbf

Maybe Bartering Will Help (Julie Lagger), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:16 (twelve years ago) link

Ismael - Performance in general was alright, though a bit disjointed and lacking in control. Henderson is better than I thought him to be when we signed him.

Carroll was okay, bordering on almost good. But we have one CF who causes mayhem in the opposition half but isn't finishing well enough. Pairing him with a partner who supposedly causes mayhem in the opposition defence (but does so about 1 game in 5 as far as I can see) and who is a far far worse finisher than the guy who isn't finishing well enough is a road to nowhere.

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:36 (twelve years ago) link

he could be awesome, i think he will be awesome again, being a 35m striker without a goid run of games in a pretty unsettled team may not be the necessary circs

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:38 (twelve years ago) link

some really easy games coming up for us so plenty of chances to get on the score sheet i'd imagine. ahem.

Chris, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:41 (twelve years ago) link

words you should never see in print

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:47 (twelve years ago) link

i didn't think henderson was great or anything last night, but would agree that he looks better centrally rather than out on the wing where his relative lack of pace is exposed.

Do lfc have pace for wide positions?

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:50 (twelve years ago) link

Downing? There was that driving run at the Sunderland defence on the opening day, and that shot that Schwarzer tipped on to the post last night. Bellamy?

Chris, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:11 (twelve years ago) link

Not exactly Bale or Lennon types though I suppose.

Chris, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:14 (twelve years ago) link

Krasic is on the outs at Juve

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:19 (twelve years ago) link

y'all can have arsh

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:25 (twelve years ago) link

krasic should be on the outs at Juve, he's been terrible for nigh on 12 months.

richard scudamore came into the shop today. I refrained from telling him where to stick his 39th game.

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:31 (twelve years ago) link

so chelsea tonight eh? Last minute equaliser by valencia to knock them out and drogba protesting in his flip flops is what I'm looking forward to.

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:32 (twelve years ago) link

nah, Drogba doesn't give a toss anymore. Probably none of em do

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:33 (twelve years ago) link

Feel like not making the next round might make Nando snap. He'd be the one I'd look out for anyway. He's been so passive, somethings got to be boiling underneath there.

I am a nerd and r gonna watch our kids. Mainly because I like Frimpong and am interested to see who plays back-up RB. Yennaris? Coquelin? Eastmond? Some other DM out of position?

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:38 (twelve years ago) link

so, the better to be able to co-ordinate the 'trap out' campaign, me and three mates are organising a campervan sojourn to the euros.

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:39 (twelve years ago) link

SPIN-OFF POTENTIAL.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:40 (twelve years ago) link

can't be any worse than 'max and paddy'

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:43 (twelve years ago) link

is it feasible to travel around poland/ukraine by campervan and actually get from game to game?

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:45 (twelve years ago) link

Ireland are only in Poland luckily enough

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:45 (twelve years ago) link

what about the q-final?

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:46 (twelve years ago) link

and it's like 300km between Gdansk and Poznan which are the two venues

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:47 (twelve years ago) link

oh that'll work then. Are the games likely to sell out? Wonder what the pricing is like and if the locals can afford it.

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:48 (twelve years ago) link

they can in Poland but can't in Ukraine is the word

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:48 (twelve years ago) link

Pretty big country, Ukraine

Tony Hart land (Deep in the Tony Hart land), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:49 (twelve years ago) link

Just don't mention that you contribute to message board that contains the The Official Prime Minister Of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko Picture Thread

Tony Hart land (Deep in the Tony Hart land), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:51 (twelve years ago) link

and the QF featuring the runner-up of Group C is in Warsaw. As long as Ireland don't go and win the bloody thing it should work out nicely

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:52 (twelve years ago) link

Actually wait, read that wrong it's in Kiev. Thankfully it won't come up

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:55 (twelve years ago) link

it would be just like Trap to ruin Darragh's well laid plans and get to the final. No consideration.

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

Surely they are virtually guaranteed to beat Italy 1-0?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 17:07 (twelve years ago) link

planning for ten days tbh, looking at flights- berlin fave for poland access, but f'furt easier to get to, and cheaper. Basing ourselves in poznan and taking a day or two in gdansk for the middle game. All up in the air as yet, anyone on ilx got the polish or experience re camper hire etc?

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 17:20 (twelve years ago) link

I know a lot of Poles here in Chicago, some of whom are traveling for the tournament. I can ask around.

tumblr whineys (Cuauhtemoc Blanco), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 17:39 (twelve years ago) link

I used to ask myself if Blanco was dan. Now I don't need to =)

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 18:40 (twelve years ago) link

Blanco's second post, iirc, was a dig at Columbus Crew. never in doubt.

tumblr whineys (Cuauhtemoc Blanco), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

guzan is a sad case imo, wasted potential sitting on the bench

tumblr whineys (Cuauhtemoc Blanco), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

How do you pronounce Cuauhtemoc anyway?

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 19:21 (twelve years ago) link

kuwautamuck

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 19:22 (twelve years ago) link

Fabianski, Djourou, Vermaelen, Squillaci, Andre Santos, Coquelin, Frimpong, Benayoun, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chamakh, Arshavin. Subs: Mannone, Rosicky, Park, Eastmond, Miquel, Ozyakup, Yennaris.

Dull team, hope we aren't over-using Santos or Vermaelan - especially considering the game is pointless. Glad to see we are playing 4-3-3 instead of 4-4-2 like we did against City.

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 19:29 (twelve years ago) link

Hm, watch that lot or Chelsea on the rack? Tough 'un.
