Was lucky not to break his leg imo, it was no Rodwell.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 5 December 2011 22:03 (twelve years ago) link

tonight made a grim day induced by drinking all weekend even more grim. sometimes i think liverpool cosmically chose me.

HI IT'S RONAN, Monday, 5 December 2011 22:06 (twelve years ago) link

sorry, i misread your post and, anyway, there's no real connection, i just like thinking about bebe

mizzell, Monday, 5 December 2011 22:08 (twelve years ago) link

someone needs to i suppose

Number None, Monday, 5 December 2011 22:10 (twelve years ago) link

ffs liverpool can't rely on you to do anything

Maybe Bartering Will Help (Julie Lagger), Monday, 5 December 2011 22:51 (twelve years ago) link

Except consistently delight, perhaps

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 00:45 (twelve years ago) link

Definitely a red card - gets more ugly every time I watch it. Dembele was lucky that he didn't get seriously injured.

Chris, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 03:07 (twelve years ago) link

another charge for Suarez then...

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 03:20 (twelve years ago) link

Anyway. I was really impressed with Henderson again. He played some lovely one touch passes. Beautiful driving run and shot in the first half, too. Really like him.

Chris, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 03:32 (twelve years ago) link

It means something different in Uruguay

Tony Hart land (Deep in the Tony Hart land), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:03 (twelve years ago) link

He's seen middle-fingers pointed at him from the stands in Holland for too long to use that excuse tbh

lebateauivre, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:04 (twelve years ago) link

Guy on the left doesn't seem too offended by it

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:05 (twelve years ago) link

Liverpool fans, what is your opinion of Suarez's current form and shocking chance conversion rate?

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:10 (twelve years ago) link

he's lost sharpness, imo- maybe needs a rest

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:17 (twelve years ago) link

He's playing well. The strike rate is puzzling. He does snatch at things occasionally and there's the odd shocker, but nothing worse than most strikers. I don't know why he isn't scoring more. I suspect it's just chance.

I do wonder about his strike partner though, it's got to weigh upon the choices he makes. There may also be an impact in his getting crowded out a bit more, defenders knowing he's the one to mark.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:22 (twelve years ago) link

Maybe there's something playing on his mind, something that wouldn't have played on his mind if he'd said it in Uruguay

Tony Hart land (Deep in the Tony Hart land), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:23 (twelve years ago) link

Of all players to have scored three or more PL goals this season, Luis Suárez has the lowest shot conversion rate (7.7%)

Can't be just chance

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:26 (twelve years ago) link

it's not just chance, no

His finishing seems to be the poorest part of his game, he can hit a long shot and get into position but he's not lethal enough

I do think the lack of a partner is putting him under pressure tho, teams double up on him and nobody is using the space that creates - carroll isn't mobile, bellamy's on the wing, gerrard is injured, no other midfielder makes advanced runs with any frequency and kuyt hates the box

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:31 (twelve years ago) link

I thoughtfully omitted Opta's trademark one word summation there btw

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:33 (twelve years ago) link

Suarez has been banging them in for URgay recently - four in his last match? - so I don't think it's necessarily about his own lack of sharpness. But I think even last season Kuyt and Maxi were main beneficiaries of him causing havoc in the area. As he showed last night, Carroll isn't really up to it.

Stevie T, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:37 (twelve years ago) link

It looks like he's going to have difficulty getting any borderline penalty shouts too

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:39 (twelve years ago) link

carroll *could* be the partner, but it needs to be suarez feeding off the havoc he creates, not t'other way round- carroll was a lot better last night than he has been imo, but they weren't functioning as a pair at all. Needs time, tbf

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:42 (twelve years ago) link

could give carroll all 5 years of his contract and he won't amount to anything except a poor man's emile heskey

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:44 (twelve years ago) link

i disagree, it was houllier turned heskey into heskey, before that he was p much unstoppable at leicester

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:48 (twelve years ago) link

ie you still have to coach a big man, even if what they do seems simple

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:49 (twelve years ago) link

a poor man's emile heskey

That's gotta hurt

Tony Hart land (Deep in the Tony Hart land), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 12:49 (twelve years ago) link

how long until we get to say lol buying in form strikers from holland

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 13:01 (twelve years ago) link

with regard to suarez? pretty long time i should think.

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 13:32 (twelve years ago) link

Huh xp? Have you seen him, he's playing well.

Have you watched the game yet pandemic? Would be interested to hear your thoughts on Carroll in this performance specifically.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 13:38 (twelve years ago) link

Can't tell if Carroll is doing things well or if we're just desperate to pounce on anything half decent and claim it's a sign he's gonna be bloody fantastic.

Chris, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:15 (twelve years ago) link

he's excellent at fouling opposition defenders tbf

Maybe Bartering Will Help (Julie Lagger), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:16 (twelve years ago) link

Ismael - Performance in general was alright, though a bit disjointed and lacking in control. Henderson is better than I thought him to be when we signed him.

Carroll was okay, bordering on almost good. But we have one CF who causes mayhem in the opposition half but isn't finishing well enough. Pairing him with a partner who supposedly causes mayhem in the opposition defence (but does so about 1 game in 5 as far as I can see) and who is a far far worse finisher than the guy who isn't finishing well enough is a road to nowhere.

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:36 (twelve years ago) link

he could be awesome, i think he will be awesome again, being a 35m striker without a goid run of games in a pretty unsettled team may not be the necessary circs

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:38 (twelve years ago) link

some really easy games coming up for us so plenty of chances to get on the score sheet i'd imagine. ahem.

Chris, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:41 (twelve years ago) link

some really easy games coming up for us

words you should never see in print

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:47 (twelve years ago) link

i didn't think henderson was great or anything last night, but would agree that he looks better centrally rather than out on the wing where his relative lack of pace is exposed.

Do lfc have pace for wide positions?

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:50 (twelve years ago) link

Downing? There was that driving run at the Sunderland defence on the opening day, and that shot that Schwarzer tipped on to the post last night. Bellamy?

Chris, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:11 (twelve years ago) link

Not exactly Bale or Lennon types though I suppose.

Chris, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:14 (twelve years ago) link

Krasic is on the outs at Juve

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:19 (twelve years ago) link

y'all can have arsh

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:25 (twelve years ago) link

krasic should be on the outs at Juve, he's been terrible for nigh on 12 months.

richard scudamore came into the shop today. I refrained from telling him where to stick his 39th game.

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:31 (twelve years ago) link

so chelsea tonight eh? Last minute equaliser by valencia to knock them out and drogba protesting in his flip flops is what I'm looking forward to.

pandemic, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:32 (twelve years ago) link

nah, Drogba doesn't give a toss anymore. Probably none of em do

Number None, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:33 (twelve years ago) link

Feel like not making the next round might make Nando snap. He'd be the one I'd look out for anyway. He's been so passive, somethings got to be boiling underneath there.

I am a nerd and r gonna watch our kids. Mainly because I like Frimpong and am interested to see who plays back-up RB. Yennaris? Coquelin? Eastmond? Some other DM out of position?

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:38 (twelve years ago) link

so, the better to be able to co-ordinate the 'trap out' campaign, me and three mates are organising a campervan sojourn to the euros.

Sad Banter (p much resigned to deems), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 16:39 (twelve years ago) link

SPIN-OFF POTENTIAL.
