Ha ha, I actually met a guy named "Sevin" once. I haven't suggested that one to her yet. (Although I did suggest "Garth Brooks Molitor," which did not impress.)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 14:00 (seventeen years ago) link

My brother and his wife wanted to call their son "Seven" but ended up making up "Seb1an" (my brother's name is 1an). My grandmother however perferred Seven and call him this until she died.

Dammit I thought today was Thurs. and therefor my last day at work for the year. but it isn't. it's Wed. I'm so bummed.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 15:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Huh, I was thinking today was Thursday for some reason, too. You'll make it, though, Sam!

wrt names for my sister's baby, "Four" would make more sense.

I'm waiting to hear if FB, subgenius and John conquered trivia last night.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 16:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Me too. B3t$y's birthday dinner finished at 9 so I could, theoretically, have gone on to triv. However DRUNK so no go.

suzy artskooldisko (suzy artskooldisko), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 16:43 (seventeen years ago) link

suzy, it sounds like you had fun even without the trivia!

Wrapping was fine, except I suck at wrapping.

I was just thinking that if ILX/HSTNGS thread are going to meet up at Bunny's before you go, we should pick a date; I need to find a sitter if I'm going to get teh husband out of the house.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 16:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't think FB reads the board anymore so you guys should probably coordinate over email.

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 16:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, definitely! Any time between 27th and NYE good for me, then 2nd or 3rd. I go back on the 4th. Although Dan raises a point. DJP, could you hook us up if not too much trouble? SRC, this address works.

I pointed out to sis' fiancé that all the men in Bunny's over 50 looked like Bud Grant. 'Cosby'-style sweaters were also a feature. Our party spent at least $100 on pull tabs last night, which was SICK.

suzy artskooldisko (suzy artskooldisko), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 16:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Hmmmm, Dan you might be right. Suzy, I will email...

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 17:00 (seventeen years ago) link

PS Dan, come home cuz we miss you.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Trivia went...non-winningly.

John Justen is interested in eating your pet. (John Justen), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

BOO HISS

You should have called me!

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 18:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Against the rules, I'm afraid. Also, they asked at least one question that was incorrect (yes, the question), which threw us out a little bit.

Q: Who was the native american actor who played the famous "One single tear" character in the 70's anti-littering campaign?

A: Iron Eyes Cody. Problem with the question is that he was ITALIAN YOU FUCKING MORANS. HSTNGS doesn't truck with misinformation.

Also, I don't give a fuck what rachel leigh cook looks like, so I couldn't ID her in the picture round.

John Justen is interested in eating your pet. (John Justen), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 18:42 (seventeen years ago) link

And we were drunk.

John Justen is interested in eating your pet. (John Justen), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 18:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Damn, there goes my last 50 cents. But clearly you guys were not to blame. (Okay, maybe that depends on how drunk you really were...)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, who the hell is Rachel Leigh Cook?

And while I'm asking questions, who the hell is the "Nicole" on the front of People magazine and the tabloids? A. and I were at Target this morning, feeling really out of it. (We did know who "Angelina," "Jen," "Brad," and "Beyonce" were, though.)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:21 (seventeen years ago) link

We may have also been penalized by SubG appending comments to several of our following answers, ie "Sean Connery, who is also not native american"

xpost

John Justen is interested in eating your pet. (John Justen), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:22 (seventeen years ago) link

I knew I liked that subgenius guy.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll guess it's Nicole Richie. She probably ate a baby or something.

John Justen is interested in eating your pet. (John Justen), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:25 (seventeen years ago) link

That name means nothing to me. I guess that's what Wikipedia is for.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Lionel Richie's daughter, the not-Paris-Hilton half of that simple life show. Looks a lot like Lionel Richie would if he was anorexic, had longer hair, and was a coke-whore.

John Justen is interested in eating your pet. (John Justen), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:30 (seventeen years ago) link

rachel leigh cook went to my high school. we swept that round. the rest of them, not so much.

a_p (a_p), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:32 (seventeen years ago) link

she's adopted. and mexican-american actually (I've never thought she looked like him.)

She also got a DUI in the past week after driving the WRONG WAY ON THE FREEWAY. She claims to have been on vicodin and weed.

I don't understand people like her and Paris (and Mel for that sake) getting DUIs. You're rich! If you're going to party hire a driver for fuck's sake!

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

John, thanks. It could be her. I can't remember what the headline even was, since we were so "who on earth are they talking about?! It's clear that we should know!"

a_p - sorry to hear you didn't smash the trivia people either. Interesting that Rachel Leigh Cook went to your high school. WHOEVER SHE IS!

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Sam - well, it certainly could have been Nicole Richie then; she looked like she could be Hispanic (ha, based on tabloid photos).

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:36 (seventeen years ago) link

it was her, I watch enough trashy entertainment headline shows to be sure.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Thanks guys. I know where to go to get my pop culture education. I'll pass this info on to A. as well, of course. ;)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 19:43 (seventeen years ago) link

(haha I was going to amend John's description with "and was adopted" but Sam beat me to it)

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 20:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I must admit that I was temporarily thrown off by her Wikipedia photos, in which she is blond; her hair looks dark on the tabloids.

(See, if you dye your hair, I'll never recognize you!)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 20:20 (seventeen years ago) link

I've done fuck-all work-wise today. why am I still here?

This thread is getting v. long.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 21:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Have you seen the length of some of the Real-ILX Hastings threads? Much more out of control...

Why are you still there? Hope you can go home soon and knit/do whatever you want. I'm going to go lie down because the kids are safely home from school and it is very cold and rainy outside. Very cold plus rain means get the hell into bed in my book.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 21:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Dan/Sara, did either of you see me when I dyed my hair white blonde? Only amusing for a short time.

John Justen is interested in eating your pet. (John Justen), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 21:40 (seventeen years ago) link

nah, it's been awhile since I've been on long threads much.

It is also cold/rainy here. The temp's been dropping steadily all day. brr, winter!

I'm waiting for G. to decide to come to get me as the shuttles aren't running and I don't feel like taking two city buses home in the rain. We're going out for margaritas later. yumm.

dammit, can't believe it's not thursday. I better have more focus tomorrow b/c I do have quite a bit of work to do.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 21:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Kids wanting snacks mean naps are painfully short. But I will try again.

John - you dyed your hair white blonde?! NO, I did not see that. (Please tell me you have a photo, preferably with dark roots showing, sort of as if you were some really screwed up version of Madonna.)

Margaritas YUM. WANT. Instead all I have is a bunch of cookies and fudge that I made... too much. Neighbors are getting treats tonight.

Stay warm Sam! (Er, and everyone else, of course.)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 22:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I think I've seen a picture of Blonde John. IIRC, you looked kind of dead.

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 22:04 (seventeen years ago) link

enjoy your nap!

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 22:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Blonde John, looking dead. LOL.

I'm reconsidering the nap, now that Blonde Zombie high school friends have been conjured in my imagination. I live in front of a cemetery, remember.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 22:09 (seventeen years ago) link

I took the nap yesterday and no blonde zombies bothered me. I'm going back to lie down again this morning because it is freaking cold, miserable and dark out.

Drive carefully if you're around the T.C. area this morning guys. Yikes.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Blonde Zombie high school friends

???

Is it snowing there? It was cold here when I woke up and I wore a sweatshirt to work. But I was sweating by the time I made it to my office.

last day of "work" for the year, woo-hoo!

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Sorry, the notion of John with white blonde hair, looking "dead" was apparently too much for my imagination. (Plus I can't imagine that he dyed his eyebrows to match. Yikes.)

No snow - just really REALLY cold rain. The temperature is hovering right around the freezing point, I think, so the roads could get slippery. Nasty.

But yay for the last work day of the year for you!!!! A. has to go in next week Wed.-Friday, but it will be scary quiet with all the students and most of the faculty and staff gone. I almost envy that.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:12 (seventeen years ago) link

what does your husband do? I feel I should know this yet I don't.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:14 (seventeen years ago) link

He works in the administrative computer center of a private college. I think the main thing he does is troubleshoot people's computer problems; he's insanely good at fixing them. At any rate, he seems to enjoy it, it pays okay, the benefits are fantastic, and we have a ready source of potential babysitters in his student workers. All v. good!

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:26 (seventeen years ago) link

What do you do, Sam? (that you won't have to do again after today until 2007!!!!)

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:28 (seventeen years ago) link

The last time there was a TC ice storm I was in hospital in London and my mom slipped and broke her ankle on the way to the car two hours before she was supposed to go to the airport. My sister: "I've got some good news, and some bad news..."

suzy artskooldisko (suzy artskooldisko), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I also work in computers at a (large, public) university. Web development for a million and one divisions/departments on campus. I love working here.

there should be an ilx union of university workers.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:37 (seventeen years ago) link

suzy... lolz.

The ice storm I remember best was the nice of the final test of my first semester at St. Kate's (library school) - in 1995 this was. Scariest drive home to Northfield ever.

Working in academia = pretty awesome, unless the college you're working at has financial troubles (I did that once; it sucked). ILX union... I'd like to see the meetings for that organization.

Freezing rain: the best of all Christmas traveling weather!

Dan I. (w1nt3rmut3), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:31 (seventeen years ago) link

It's turned into big, fat Rankin/Bass Xmas Special style SNOWBLOBS. Pwetty!

suzy artskooldisko (suzy artskooldisko), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:36 (seventeen years ago) link

It has stopped raining in Northfield for the moment. Just after they sent the kids home from school 2 hours early, too!

I want SNOWBLOBS, too!!!!

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:45 (seventeen years ago) link

I have to go replace a headlight in this stuff.

I'd forgotten how pretty snow is though.

Dan I. (w1nt3rmut3), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Why are you taunting me with your pretty snows?

(But good luck with the headlight - it's cold out there.)
