Now that they've checked Reyes off their to-do list, the Miami Marlins have an even bigger name on their radar screen -- Albert Pujols.
Sources told ESPN.com on Sunday night that the Marlins plan to make an aggressive run at Pujols over the next two days.
A source also told ESPNDeportesLosAngeles.com that Miami has emerged as the most likely destination for Pujols if the slugger decides to leave the St. Louis Cardinals, the only team he has played for in his 11-year career.
― v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 04:04 (twelve years ago) link
man. this team.
― sir thermo of thinwall, Monday, 5 December 2011 06:24 (twelve years ago) link
so they get maybe Buehrle, maybe Pujols. do they beat Philly? do we watch another Crawford/Lackey disaster unfold? when was the last time a team went this free agent crazy? the diamondbacks?
― sir thermo of thinwall, Monday, 5 December 2011 07:39 (twelve years ago) link
buehrle is better than lackey and the marlins new stadium is big, so i think his stuff would play there
reyes... has also been a better player with crawford, but he's fraught with risk. if crash landed like crawford next year i'd be shocked. hopefully reyes actually wants to come to miami and isn't solely running to the money, which i think was part of crawford's prob next year.
― v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 08:02 (twelve years ago) link
er, last year
the phillies will be good, i think they're on shaky ground if anything else goes wrong for them, they're gonna have a hard time scoring runs, and if any of their pitchers gets hurt...
the marlins could win the wild card if they pick up a few more guys if they stay healthy. the problem is that they have no depth, which is why they turned into one of the absolute worst teams in baseball last year when guys started getting hurt. so, things would have to break right, but it certainly would be in play
― v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 08:04 (twelve years ago) link
man. this team. should get plague.

According to ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes, the agent for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is telling interested teams that his client wants a $60 million contract.
sick of hearing about this fool.. sounds like willy mo pena 2.0.
― mayor jingleberriez, Monday, 5 December 2011 20:03 (twelve years ago) link
i don't know -- if carl crawford and jayson werth are getting $120m contracts, yeonis cespedes probably will be worth half that

so, discussion topic for the day:
if albert pujols inexplicably signs w/ the marlins, does he become "worse" than lebron james, and who is more hated/feels more betrayed by their ex-fan base
― v-shasty, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 15:03 (twelve years ago) link
also, cardinals/marlins play on opening day
i guess to clarify the last part, obv i mean which fanbase feels more betrayed
― v-shasty, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 15:04 (twelve years ago) link
10 years... they're saying.
― sir thermo of thinwall, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 15:18 (twelve years ago) link
cards just won the world series, have several other well-paid players, etc. pujols is not from the greater st. louis area and seems unlikely to broadcast his decision in the reality television show format.
it'll be a long time before any fanbase feels more betrayed than cavs fans imo

I would consider doing it if they let me mute the sound all the time, esp Fox and MLBTV.

according to the twitter, the marlins have offered pujols a 10 year deal and are currently trying to work thru a no trade for the first five years before his 10/5 rights kick in
the cardinals are supposedly willing to offer him a 10 year deal depending on the AAV, i guess ppl aren't sure what the marlins current offer is.
also apparently this should be concluded either way w/in the next 36 hours.

based on how the united states government has decided in the past few years to prosecute rich and powerful men that raped the citizenry for its money, i don't have much optimism that jeffery loria is going to be fined into oblivion, let alone put in jail
