i liked some but it was a lot of canon stuff (e-40/quik/etc.) and mildly well received mixtapes (mouse/fiend/etc.), i'm hoping this week i can play catch up and do a lot of listening before i set my year-end lists in stone

i already regret not just being 'some dude' again (Mr. Stevenson #2), Monday, 5 December 2011 00:57 (twelve years ago) link

quik, e-40, kendrick, shabazz palaces and maybe na'tee will be in my top ten, i think. most of my energy for digging into obscure shit has gone elsewhere this year, so it's mostly been checking for people i already know i like.

furnace mane i would check out schoolboy q's album if i were you its called 'setbacks'

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:04 (twelve years ago) link

i think you would f/w it

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:04 (twelve years ago) link

I prefer it to Kendrick's album

Number None, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:06 (twelve years ago) link

yeah its more my speed, but most of my reasons for preferring it are stylistic preference rather than like, stuff that sucks about the kendrick or something

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:07 (twelve years ago) link

kendrick will be in my top 10 -- was shocked how much i grew to like it

v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:09 (twelve years ago) link

takes me back to when rappers yelled

did you like the death grips mixtape? it was the highest placing 'rap' album on my eoy but i was a little embarrassed when no other rap music made our list

i really, really liked the main attrakionz mixtape as well as the spaceghostpurpp and kendrick lamar ones.

є(٥_ ٥)э, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:09 (twelve years ago) link

i'm sure only dealwithit.gif will like this but this was one of my fav tracks from one of my fav hip hop albums this year

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:09 (twelve years ago) link

Kendrick has stuff like the dude singing on "Ronald Reagan Era" which just takes me right out of it. Schoolboy Q has Jhene Aiko who's much more agreeable

Number None, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:11 (twelve years ago) link

Jay Rock's debut album coulda gone from a B+ to an A if it didn't have such a watered down second half.

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:14 (twelve years ago) link

Haven't heard that or Ab-Soul's one. Anyone?

Number None, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:16 (twelve years ago) link

yeah the jay rock was better than i expected too

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:18 (twelve years ago) link

completely forgot it was this year but I did love the Dinner and a Movie by Brotha Lynch Hung.

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:19 (twelve years ago) link

err sorry Coathanga Strangla

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:19 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, sandlamp, Death Grips is in my top 50

regional pug (dealwithit.gif), Monday, 5 December 2011 01:26 (twelve years ago) link

everything about kendrick lamar screams red flag to me, is there a song that might convince me i should not be so cynical about him

i should check out jay rock and ab-soul's shit tho.

furnace mane, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:29 (twelve years ago) link

what's the over/under on whether TM103 comes out this year. I mean I know unlike prior drop dates that industry heads have heard what the supposed finished product is but at this stage I think it'd be kinda hilarious if he pushed it back again, kinda like rap's Cartmanland

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:30 (twelve years ago) link

it weirds me out that those 2 guys work together because i've known a rapper from around here for years called ab rock (xpost)

i think TM103 is definitely dropping this month now

i already regret not just being 'some dude' again (Mr. Stevenson #2), Monday, 5 December 2011 01:31 (twelve years ago) link

it's definitely coming out -- it's definitely going to be his least good album (depending on how you feel about 102)

v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:32 (twelve years ago) link

Yo Gotti's joint is pushed back to 2012 now

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:32 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, "rigamortis" def

v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:32 (twelve years ago) link

i find it v hard to care about a t-pain album in 2011. robin thicke should be good tho. xxxp

furnace mane, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:36 (twelve years ago) link

i will always care about t-pain

v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:36 (twelve years ago) link

v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:38 (twelve years ago) link

have you heard the tpain tracks already released from the new album? They're suitably loopy, derivative and fun.

Dranke, the German Drake Impersonator (forksclovetofu), Monday, 5 December 2011 01:42 (twelve years ago) link

oh who are you kidding, you will definitely watch that show that's on tv

xp

v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:42 (twelve years ago) link

i'm actually going in blind on this one, forks -- not out of any nobility or anything, just haven't exactly been keeping up

v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:43 (twelve years ago) link

like i would normally loathe this sound but penderass' twangy rambly warblescreams somehow cut through the bullshit for me.
actually just listening to this is making me hate myself. i may have to retract.
nah, i'll just hate myself.

just like dude's voice, regardless how processed it is.

Dranke, the German Drake Impersonator (forksclovetofu), Monday, 5 December 2011 01:45 (twelve years ago) link

when i've liked t-pain it's been more in spite of his voice than anything. and he seems to have run out of ideas a while ago.

furnace mane, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:49 (twelve years ago) link

Why are forks and jord taking about a turnt sanga itt

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:50 (twelve years ago) link

it was my fault -- just bringing up dec albums

v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:51 (twelve years ago) link

t-pain's a talented dude and i never really got sick of him but the six(!) advance singles off this record have been such a mixed bag that the album could go either way -- tbh i'm much more optimistic about jeezy turning in an enjoyable 'same thing he always does' album

kendrick lamar kind of giving me pusha t vibes in his words promising a personality that his voice can't deliver on

i already regret not just being 'some dude' again (Mr. Stevenson #2), Monday, 5 December 2011 01:52 (twelve years ago) link

i think that was promo only

i probably shouldve googled this first - its released on ORMOLYCKA

є(٥_ ٥)э, Monday, 5 December 2011 01:56 (twelve years ago) link

buyin now

regional pug (dealwithit.gif), Monday, 5 December 2011 02:38 (twelve years ago) link

a rapper i know once sent me a package for his latest mixtape that had a CD and a gold-painted cassette -- was very bummed when i asked him and it was just for show, not a real playable tape of the record

i already regret not just being 'some dude' again (Mr. Stevenson #2), Monday, 5 December 2011 02:46 (twelve years ago) link

that's how bummed i was when I bought the Freeway and Jake One album and tried to spend the money that came inside the package

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Monday, 5 December 2011 03:01 (twelve years ago) link

Al you might like kendrick more as a part of his crew Black Hippy. They did some group recordings, theyre fun to hear bounce off each other
