probably my favorite rap album 2011

i liked some but it was a lot of canon stuff (e-40/quik/etc.) and mildly well received mixtapes (mouse/fiend/etc.), i'm hoping this week i can play catch up and do a lot of listening before i set my year-end lists in stone

quik, e-40, kendrick, shabazz palaces and maybe na'tee will be in my top ten, i think. most of my energy for digging into obscure shit has gone elsewhere this year, so it's mostly been checking for people i already know i like.

yeah its more my speed, but most of my reasons for preferring it are stylistic preference rather than like, stuff that sucks about the kendrick or something

kendrick will be in my top 10 -- was shocked how much i grew to like it

takes me back to when rappers yelled

did you like the death grips mixtape? it was the highest placing 'rap' album on my eoy but i was a little embarrassed when no other rap music made our list

i really, really liked the main attrakionz mixtape as well as the spaceghostpurpp and kendrick lamar ones.

i'm sure only dealwithit.gif will like this but this was one of my fav tracks from one of my fav hip hop albums this year

Kendrick has stuff like the dude singing on "Ronald Reagan Era" which just takes me right out of it. Schoolboy Q has Jhene Aiko who's much more agreeable

Jay Rock's debut album coulda gone from a B+ to an A if it didn't have such a watered down second half.

Haven't heard that or Ab-Soul's one. Anyone?

everything about kendrick lamar screams red flag to me, is there a song that might convince me i should not be so cynical about him

what's the over/under on whether TM103 comes out this year. I mean I know unlike prior drop dates that industry heads have heard what the supposed finished product is but at this stage I think it'd be kinda hilarious if he pushed it back again, kinda like rap's Cartmanland

t-pain's a talented dude and i never really got sick of him but the six(!) advance singles off this record have been such a mixed bag that the album could go either way -- tbh i'm much more optimistic about jeezy turning in an enjoyable 'same thing he always does' album

kendrick lamar kind of giving me pusha t vibes in his words promising a personality that his voice can't deliver on

a rapper i know once sent me a package for his latest mixtape that had a CD and a gold-painted cassette -- was very bummed when i asked him and it was just for show, not a real playable tape of the record

that's how bummed i was when I bought the Freeway and Jake One album and tried to spend the money that came inside the package

Al you might like kendrick more as a part of his crew Black Hippy. They did some group recordings, theyre fun to hear bounce off each other
