Holy shit.

Wow, what an idiot.

BTW --
I don't know if anyone could possibly care about this, but Video Adventure in Evanston is selling all of their VHS for $0.10-$0.50. It was pretty picked through but I got two Derek Jarman movies (The Angelic Conversation and The Last of England) and Return to Two Moon Junction (which is clearly horrible but you know how I feel about terrible movies). Dan got 2 horror movies and I forget what they are. We spent $0.95.

Also I left before Russian Circles played last night because the place was totally packed and the crowd was awful. Was also kinda bored by Young Widows.

Hey, we're giving away this chair and ottoman if any of you want it: http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/zip/2735648761.html

Cool chair. Is it still available?

Sandbox Jesse, Sunday, 4 December 2011 20:10 (twelve years ago) link

Yes. Come pick it up.

thejenny, Sunday, 4 December 2011 20:29 (twelve years ago) link

Do you think I should be clearer about the chair's condition? I'm sending the original pics to anybody who emails expressing interest, but I've gotten a couple of emails that are like "ARE THERE ANY RIPS OR STAINS?" and I'm like, It's a free chair on Craig's List with a visible rip in one of the pictures, so yes. Maybe they are asking if anybody has peed on it.

thejenny, Sunday, 4 December 2011 20:30 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't notice the rip at first, fwiw.

dyao think i'm sexy (jaymc), Sunday, 4 December 2011 20:34 (twelve years ago) link

I... do not like that cover. I love the song, but the cover seems to suck all of the interestingness out of it. Maybe if he started screaming DO YOU WANNA DI-YEEEE somewhere in there.

xp okay, I'll note the rip in the description. Thanks!

thejenny, Sunday, 4 December 2011 20:35 (twelve years ago) link

Maybe. When I sell stuff o n CL, Ebay (eBay?) and Amazon I usually include something about flaws, even if it's just "minor shelf wear" b/c disclosure heads off concerns. xp

Sandbox Jesse, Sunday, 4 December 2011 20:36 (twelve years ago) link

I noted the tear in the ottoman and some fading/discoloration in the chair. I thought suggesting the chair for a frat house/reupholstery project and giving it away for free w/ the slipcover would be enough, but it can't hurt to give more info.

I'm giving it away because I don't think it's worth any money and because I don't want to carry it to the alley, btw. It's too big to fit through our back gate and it's going to be monstrous to have to carry around the block. God.

Wow, kind of cool to hear VA's still around. Used to rent from there all the time. If you appeared to be underage and renting an R-rated movie, they'd call your house (ostensibly to speak with your parents) to make sure it was OK. When I was in high school, I always had friends over who answered the phone pretending to be "mom" or "dad," approving my rental.

Still there! The sun still blasts in the window at a certain hour and makes the whole place hot and smelly, just like in days of yore.

Weird. My post from earlier about that POS lawyer disappeared. I know it posted b/c I saw it on the page.

Sandbox Jesse, Monday, 5 December 2011 00:45 (twelve years ago) link

Well anyway, there is a pretty awesome commenter putting a lot of words toward defending that jackass lawyer b/c he probably just didn't know that it's not OK to try to recruit a sexcretary. Probably b/c he was broke but everyone thought lawyers are rich.

Hooray for Uptown.

Broadway Closed Between Wilson & Leland. Red And Purple lines closed, too.

Per the cops, stay away from windows if you're in the area.  There's a barricade situation, we hear, and the SWAT team is moving in.  We would recommend staying off the streets as well.

Sandbox Jesse, Monday, 5 December 2011 23:58 (twelve years ago) link

Made for an annoying commute.

Jeff, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 00:31 (twelve years ago) link

I'm going to not stay away just to piss them off.

Jeff, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 00:31 (twelve years ago) link

i got a call from the troom telling people to enter campus from the west because of police barricades
(i don't work there anymore but of course they continue to send me all-employee phone messages)

recently deposed application inspector for the (league of women voters), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 00:32 (twelve years ago) link

I just got that call, too, and was coming here to see if anybody knew what was up!

thejenny, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 00:50 (twelve years ago) link

There is a "heavily armed fugitive" in the building with Uptown Bikes.

Sandbox Jesse, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 01:11 (twelve years ago) link

Oh no! I hope the Uptown Bikes folks are okay!

thejenny, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 01:26 (twelve years ago) link

Huh, I didn't know about "reverse 911"

Uptown Update We get a recorded "reverse 911 call" from emergency services about a half hour ago warning us to stay inside and away from windows. Several others neighbors did too.

Sandbox Jesse, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 04:17 (twelve years ago) link

lots of details:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-police-activity-in-uptown-shuts-down-parts-of-red-purple-lines-20111205,0,861663.story

Sara was in Uptown while a lot of this was going down, and saw closed streets, cop cars, etc. Which is really freaky. Though she was able to just grab a Lawrence bus home.

well in (advance johnson), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 04:23 (twelve years ago) link

This feels kind of redneck-ish, but I've been listening to the CPD and CTA's radio feeds. Not really b/c of the emergency, but b/c I like radio chatter. Some US Airways flights I've taken had a station where you could listen to the cockpit's radio transmissions. That was really cool. Much more than these.

CPD: http://tunein.com/tuner/?StationId=131307

Sandbox Jesse, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 04:34 (twelve years ago) link

I used the possible train repercussions (plus the fact that I didn't leave work until 7) as a nice excuse to take a cab home.

thejenny, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 04:34 (twelve years ago) link

This struck me as really cute

[FB friend who lives at Wilson and Racine]:I am worried about Vincent [kitty] looking out the window. He loves SWAT team action!

Sandbox Jesse, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 04:39 (twelve years ago) link

I ended up taking a cab too, but man last night was annoying. I actually started out waiting for the purple line and at that point they were making no announcements, so I waited 30 minutes for a (canceled) train before my wife called to let me know what was going on.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 14:24 (twelve years ago) link

although I wasn't personally affected by the standoff, I do think that it was one of those times where twitter would be essential -- I probably read about a half dozen separate accounts of what was going on in the space of about 5 minutes after it started, before anything was on WBEZ or other internet newsfeeds

tumblr whineys (Cuauhtemoc Blanco), Tuesday, 6 December 2011 15:11 (twelve years ago) link

I'm just annoyed by the lack of information transmitted to the actual CTA workers at the stations. After I got the call from my wife I asked two different employees how far north I could get on the redline and I got shrugs and "I don't know". If only I'd thought to check my phone sooner, because very clear information was available on the CTA's mobile site.

I left my login in El Sandboxo, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 15:17 (twelve years ago) link

yeah our brown line train driver kept saying there was an "issue" with the purple line which to me implies a technical problem, not a police problem. anyways, my commute was unaffected, hooray for me!

n/a, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 15:39 (twelve years ago) link

My purple line driver specified that there was police activity at Wilson and that the train would only go as far as Belmont.

Jeff, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 15:47 (twelve years ago) link

But yeah, I knew everything that was happening anyway via twitter.

Jeff, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 15:48 (twelve years ago) link

The CTA's radio feed last night indicated a lack of centralized info. At one point, there were transmissions saying that the CPD had okayed normal service of this or that individual bus or train run (like "#36 Bus #1234, you can use the normal route"), but that led to a jam-up of other drivers and conductors going "What about me?"

Unrelated, they kept talking about "a runaway" and I couldn't tell what they meant. A runaway train?? Surely not b/c they were talking about it for an extended time.

Sandbox Jesse, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 18:11 (twelve years ago) link

They were talking about Soul Asylum.
