I almost don't wish to engage anybody in a debate on Mac Miller's lyrics for fear of someone pulling out the dreaded "WELL IT'S NO WORSE THAN ANYTHING DEM GANGBANGAZ WRITE"

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Sunday, 4 December 2011 23:13 (twelve years ago) link

unlike gambino, whose lyrics are ott "ugh" mac miler are just like relentlessly generic

otm

furnace mane, Sunday, 4 December 2011 23:56 (twelve years ago) link

"Uhh, let me get a turkey sandwich, uh lettuce tomato (bitch)" is not quite generic fwiw

the idea of having an alter ego which is just his name spelled backwards is really eyerolly

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Monday, 5 December 2011 00:00 (twelve years ago) link

lol that part is from a mini skit at the beginning of the song -- it's not a rap lyric

v-shasty, Monday, 5 December 2011 00:00 (twelve years ago) link

lol yeah, it makes more sense if you see the video (tho the addition of "bitch" is still weird even w/ that)

if you ain't gonna wash it, i ain't gonna eat it, Monday, 5 December 2011 00:00 (twelve years ago) link

but dont' take that as an endorsement to watch the vid by any means.

And I ain’t no hipster, but girl I can make your hips stir

need to know iatee's opinion on this wordplay

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Monday, 5 December 2011 00:01 (twelve years ago) link

iirc we decided on the big board that 'theres something wrong w/this guy' so its p much settled this thread is unnecessary

Cooper Chucklebutt, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 20:26 (twelve years ago) link

sad beardo music critics slobbering over drakes self-pitying swampland synth cry-a-thongs instead of getting high and doing kegstands with good looking sluts at frat parties where they play mac miller is definitive proof none of them deserve the dicks they were born with

And I ain’t no hipster, but girl I can make your hips stir

like lots of gambino lines I don't think you would be calling this out if it were by a rapper you liked

iatee, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 21:06 (twelve years ago) link

it seems perfectly...okay?

iatee, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 21:07 (twelve years ago) link

this thread is my introduction to Mac Miller and that line is terrible. Drake-worthy even.

ha i was just coming to post that as the lamest fuckin line i've ever heard, c'mon that would TOTALLY get called out on the goon thread if it was by anyone i don't care if your black, white, purple, a bum off the street

yeah this wld get torn apart whether it was biggie or mac fucking miller

big popppa hoy, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 21:49 (twelve years ago) link

okay since he called me out, I went to deej's fav rap album thread and googled the lyrics of one of the first songs there

"Now that we've grown apart, it be too long for me to fix your lonely heart
From being broke
I sat alone in the dark, singing this song that ...that I wrote from the heart
But when I wrote this you was gone out lost
And heart broke
And know I know where my heart...from being torn apart"

does anyone really consider this better lyricism than an innocuous hipster joke

iatee, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:03 (twelve years ago) link

I have no idea what that is. deej has lots of questionable opinions, not all of which are shared by goon cru

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:16 (twelve years ago) link

do you think it would be possible for me to find an indefensible line in a rap song you like

uh, dude, we wouldn't isolate particularly bad lines if there were particularly good lines on there to balance them out

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:19 (twelve years ago) link

you guys heard it here first -- iatee thinks mac miller >>> boldy james

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:20 (twelve years ago) link

also, iatee, those lyrics are actually mistranscribed

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:21 (twelve years ago) link

and fuk you very much shakey

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:21 (twelve years ago) link

uh, dude, we wouldn't isolate particularly bad lines if there were particularly good lines on there to balance them out

right that makes sense to me and I do the same thing. I don't even like mac miller, just saying that the awfulness of that line / gambino gets overstated, there are lots of awful lines in the world.

I have never even heard boldy james I just googled the first thing I saw and have heard half a mac miller song in my life.

iatee, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:22 (twelve years ago) link

i dont know, in isolation the 'hips stir' line is p terrible

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:23 (twelve years ago) link

lol wasn't trying to be dick or anything, just pointing out that, y'know, people argue with you on goon threads! this is not a bad thing.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:26 (twelve years ago) link

i just thought it was funny that iatee chose a guy who writes some of my favorite lyrics (although the effect is dulled by writing them out, to a degree) for this. i mean if its appeared on a jeezy album as "i hug the block"-type raps have, it's hard for you to say its an original concept, but he does such an incredible job w/ it imo, by transforming it into an actual love song

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:28 (twelve years ago) link

it's pretty groanworthy

iirc it comes on one of the better songs on the album, altho it's hard to keep them all straight

v-shasty, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:29 (twelve years ago) link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oh7AYuZXruU

the Boldy James song (which I've also never heard before until just now) is totally better than this garbage wtf

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 6 December 2011 22:29 (twelve years ago) link

and yeah those lyrics are transcribed incorrectly

the funny thing about mac miller is that he really doesn't have outright horrible lyrics like ya boy gambino, he's just remarkably boring & worthless

v-shasty, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 01:09 (twelve years ago) link

and to think that y'all spent all this time arguing over "hipster/ hip ster"

let me drop some real gems on you

iatee's whole "who really knows what good rap lyrics are, anyway?" devil's advocate bullshit is getting so old

haha mind you I was trolled into this thread

'people like different things' shocka. I think there's a certain amount of fronting going on when a so-so cheesy pun aimed at tumblr whites / kegstanding sorority girls is ******the worst thing ever******, esp. considering that you listen to a lot of music w/ similarly cheesy puns, just ones that aren't aimed at the same demographic.

iatee, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 03:39 (twelve years ago) link

oh yeah i didn't see where you were specifically summoned to this thread haha sorry

sandbox banned socks (Mr. Stevenson #2), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 03:42 (twelve years ago) link

imo in any medium where wordplay and obnoxious displays of cleverness are currency, there's always going to be a fine fine line between a good pun and a horrible pun, and it just kinda feels like you're pushing toward some zero some game of "you can't criticize a punchline rapper unless you hate all punchline rappers"

sandbox banned socks (Mr. Stevenson #2), Wednesday, 7 December 2011 03:44 (twelve years ago) link

nah more just "I think you're all sorta overstating the awfulness of this/that innocuous pun because you hate the people who would enjoy this music more than because you really think this is a new low in the history of rap puns..."

iatee, Wednesday, 7 December 2011 03:54 (twelve years ago) link

yo that line is like "call me mr. flintstone, I can make your bed rock" but even lamer since it's stylized like "I'm not from Bedrock, but I can make your bed rock"
