Yeah, there's a little groundswell re: Heroes being the new Lost because it comes fast & furious w/ the twists AND puts out, instead of waiting for the right time to make w/ the revelations.

David RER (Frank Fiore), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:27 (seventeen years ago) link

They are both teh awesome.

LOST has the brainz, Heroes brings teh ham. But I would take Lost over Heroes any day.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:29 (seventeen years ago) link

I haven't even seen Heroes, I'm just being a goof.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:33 (seventeen years ago) link

They are definitely of an ilk, and I think Heroes may be more instantaneously gratifying to watch. But I've yet to have Heroes dreams, whereas, in sleep, I can't excape teh JACK FACE.

nklshs (nklshs), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:37 (seventeen years ago) link

no, i watched heroes all weekend, it's much more satisfying

characters don't hold back figuring out things, or walk past relevant clues to the shows mysteries without noticing them

same themes, time/fate, etc, much less frustrating

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:38 (seventeen years ago) link

if all the characters in lost just sat down and had a long conversation about everything, they could figure it all out

this happens in heroes

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:40 (seventeen years ago) link

But LOST viewers haven't figured it out, how could the characters?

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:40 (seventeen years ago) link

certainly not the viewers fault

i watch heroes and i detect a new plot line, immediately i get all defensive like i'm watching lost and i'll never figure out what's going on for like another six episodes or a whole season--

but they don't stretch it out like that

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm sick of people saying Heroes is better. What, do you want me to watch TV all the time?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:44 (seventeen years ago) link

OH NO

David RER (Frank Fiore), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:44 (seventeen years ago) link

jaymc otm. i ph34r heroes for that reason.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:45 (seventeen years ago) link

kind of hesitant to stroll into the heroes threads and start posting though, this is my home

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

(heroes is better)

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I watch TV all the time. :(

I'm also a Grey's Anatomy addict which is incredibly sad.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:48 (seventeen years ago) link

'heroes' won't be on normal tv in the uk for a while and i can't be arsed to torrent it; but might watch it now.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:49 (seventeen years ago) link

there's nothing reprehensible about keeping up with your serialized dramas

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:50 (seventeen years ago) link

What Cutty said.

Roz, from one (US?) GA fannie to another - was the 2nd part of that OMG MEREDITH FELL IN THE RIVER thing broadcast last week? I thought they rebroadcast Thursday's show on Friday (because ABC knows how to butter their bread), but instead I got a rerun of the 2-parter where the Friday Night Lights guy gets blowed the fuck up by a homemade bazooka shell.

David RER (Frank Fiore), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Desmond = Isaac - Charlie

nklshs (nklshs), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Daddy Chandra Suresh = Dr Marvin Candle x Christian Shephard

nklshs (nklshs), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:55 (seventeen years ago) link

DL & Micah = Michael & Walt

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:56 (seventeen years ago) link

cutty manages to keep up with 2nd tier UK comedy too -- give the man kudos.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:57 (seventeen years ago) link

David, I'm not in the US but I'm guessing you mean what happened after she fell in the river, and whether Izzy kills the guy on the boat?

Yeah it was - at least, I dled it last Friday.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago) link

It was...on Thursday night. They usually rerun the newest ep on Fridays but not this past week for some reason. Oh okay I am busted as also a GA fan.

nklshs (nklshs), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 15:59 (seventeen years ago) link

I kind of hope they kill Nikki and then Linderman takes Micah so DL can be all "they took him...right out of my [phase shifting] hands!".

nklshs (nklshs), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Those sumbitches. (ABC, that is.)

Nick, if it makes you feel any better, GA employes a comic booky guy on their production / writing staff, just like Heroes & Lost.

David RER (Frank Fiore), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Anyway LOST; I think the past two episodes, if not the structure of the season (the first 6 were really strong, but the 3 month gap was just too much), has really lost (lol) a lot of LOST's steam, but I think over the next few episodes - as they get back to loser island with Sayid and Locke who are obviously about to go on wicked awesome island exploration adventure - the satisfaction factor will leap.

nklshs (nklshs), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:03 (seventeen years ago) link

consider walt--

we know he is "special"
we know he has some "power"
we know he was put into a "room"

when was the last time we heard anything about him?

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:04 (seventeen years ago) link

It wasn't A room, it was THE room.
I'm thinking it was the BRANEWASH room, but I expect that's what they want us to think, and it was in fact some completely different room we still haven't seen.
Good old L O S T.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:05 (seventeen years ago) link

consider brother mouzone in 'the wire' though!

it's the same thing (if you want it to be).

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:06 (seventeen years ago) link

and iirc, no mention of Walt since S2 finale, to answer yr Q.
The others also got "more than they bargained for" when Walt joined them.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:07 (seventeen years ago) link

naw, you knew mouzone was coming back, that's all you needed to know

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:07 (seventeen years ago) link

how is the wire received in the uk? do you have subtitles?

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:08 (seventeen years ago) link

The Wire... well, that's the one show that I have vowed not to start watching. Yet. For hard drive considerations.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I only watch L O S T.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Only 2 more episodes before a Sayid-centric ep. Can't freaking wait.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:09 (seventeen years ago) link

-- this is cutty (holle...), February 20th, 2007.

no-one gets the one tv station that shows it (fx); i would say it only just 'broke' in the media with the dvd of s03 a week or two ago. every critic says it's the best thing ever etc but it's still practically art-house cinema, audience-wise.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Heroes is dealing with a similar number of characters and same-size scope right?

I've been avoiding it but will probably plough in soon (ditto Balactica - oh daers). also pending are The Wire, 24 from 4th season on and the entirety of Mahabharat.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:12 (seventeen years ago) link

This week has seemed longer than the 3 month break.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I was in college with Dominic West, who is the lead in the Wire. Strange fact.

2. of all the man-candy on the island, he is the Great Romantic,

It's true. Not only did he make himself a little relationship with Shannon, he just has teh sadness suffusing everything he does. Him and Hurley both. I would watch a show where Sayid and Hurley fought crime together.

Captain Purple Items (nu_onimo), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:26 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm not quite down with all this Sayid love. he hasn't done anything of real interest for a long time. i know this isn't really HIS fault but... i have no idea where his backstory is going either - this doesn't seem a good thing but maybe it'll be interesting.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:30 (seventeen years ago) link

no one has posted any heroes spoilers, no worries.

his backstory, the fact it links with kate's dad and dharma geezer, is awesomes.

discussing lost

this is cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I think the point is that when Sayid is doing proper stuff and it's his turn to be the story, he is great and compelling because you want to know more about him as a character and because he has an air of mystery about him. Jack, on the other hand, who is in the frame almost all the time, is not interesting and I wouldn't care if I didn't know anything else about his life.

The people I am interested in: Libby (admittedly, dead), Juliet, Sayid, Hurley, Locke, Alex, Desmond and Benry.

People I like but don't need to know any more about back story from: Sun, Jin, Charlie.

People I don't care about either on the island or before it: everyone else.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

having said that, which characters still have a lot of intrigue/unsolved riddles re their backstories? NOT Jack because we don't give a shit about the tattoos - i mean what else is there to reveal about him now? ditto Kate and Sawyer.

as far as survivors go it's still Locke at #1 and the story of his crippledom which they're dragging their feet on (arf) forever, plus the general 'belief/i'm special' thing. Hurley/Libby thing right behind, then probably Claire! so they are the three future flashbacks i'm looking fwd to most (bar Others) now.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

he might have a tattoo of a polar bear.
