are you looking for baby specific gifts or gifts for her as a new mom or ...?

toes bonesly, Friday, 2 December 2011 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

gifts for her as a new mom or just gifts for her
i have NO IDEA what to give this person

recently deposed application inspector for the (league of women voters), Friday, 2 December 2011 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

I was going to say, if baby-specific I can speak from experience that gift cards for places that sell baby stuff and diapers while not always the most thrilling of gifts, are HUGELY appreciated by busy new parents.

And jaymc with the quality detective work.

Is she planning to breastfeed? Because what I loved was having just a big pile o' magazines. Reading a book was too much at first and the magazines were a lifesaver when Rowan would nurse for a LONG time. So I'd just grab a magazine & feel indulgent. So you could get her that.
I think anything cozy is nice because in the winter you're just hunkered down being all nesty with the baby. So maybe a nice wrap cardigan or some slippers?
My best friend bought me some yoga pants & a hood-less hoodie after I gave birth because she (rightly) assumed I was tired of all my clothes. They were great casual clothes, but I could also venture out in them if need be. She got those at Old Navy.
Is she girly? Other nice things would be a gift certificate to get a pedicure and/or manicure, maybe a little satchel with some hair ties, a lip gloss, a nail polish, etc. so she can feel put together. I honestly started wearing make up WAY more after I had Rowan. My academic brain thinks this is because while my body was (and is) changing so much (and has changed so much) it was this thing that could still be under my control. Plus, it has helped me feel more put together when everything else feels very chaotic.

I like your login, jon. Also hello!

thejenny, Friday, 2 December 2011 17:05 (twelve years ago) link

me too.

toes bonesly, Friday, 2 December 2011 17:05 (twelve years ago) link

You could also get her a bottle of wine and some advil. Those were two things I couldn't have while pregnant that I was excited to have back in my life.

Also nice - gift cards to restaurants that deliver.

toes bonesly, Friday, 2 December 2011 17:07 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks.

The gift cert for a mani/pedi is also an awesome idea. I know my wife was thrilled to feel more "human" (her word actually, lol) when she got to get out of the house and feel pretty when she was home on maternity leave.

I don't know if you live close enough to do this or would even be willing to do this, but if you just gave her a 'coupon' to come by after the baby arrives so that she can take a shower or have a nap or whatever, that is an amazing gift at that time. Or do dishes.

toes bonesly, Friday, 2 December 2011 17:12 (twelve years ago) link

job interview went well, decent odds that i'll be in chicago later this month for a final interview.

Z S, Friday, 2 December 2011 17:18 (twelve years ago) link

nice

n/a, Friday, 2 December 2011 17:20 (twelve years ago) link

She lives in VA -- good ideas w/ the restaurants that deliver even though I don't know if they have any? Decent comf loungewear sounds like a best idea.

recently deposed application inspector for the (league of women voters), Friday, 2 December 2011 17:31 (twelve years ago) link

no, restaurant delivery has been banned in virginia as sinful and godless since 1874

n/a, Friday, 2 December 2011 17:38 (twelve years ago) link

It's a rural area, smartass.

Wow. The idea of Jay-Z and Beyonce hanging out in Andersonville is kind of blowing my mind.

dyao think i'm sexy (jaymc), Friday, 2 December 2011 18:03 (twelve years ago) link

That is awesome.

recently deposed application inspector for the (league of women voters), Friday, 2 December 2011 18:24 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, I would love to know what jay-z/beyonce thought of Andersonville.

advance johnson, Friday, 2 December 2011 18:38 (twelve years ago) link

They miss Clark's on Clark.

Jeff, Friday, 2 December 2011 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

Lol.

What's wrong with frites??

Sandbox Jesse, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:15 (twelve years ago) link

fries

recently deposed application inspector for the (league of women voters), Friday, 2 December 2011 19:19 (twelve years ago) link

frites are okay but they should really be called "freedom fries"

xp

well in (advance johnson), Friday, 2 December 2011 19:19 (twelve years ago) link

I just zipped my upper lip in my zipper and it fucking hurt and now it's bleeding. Jesus Hepatitis Christ.

i'm going to assume this was your pants zipper

n/a, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:25 (twelve years ago) link

What about biscotti and creme fraiche? Cookies and fresh cream?

Sandbox Jesse, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:26 (twelve years ago) link

Sandbox doesn't alert one to xposts.

Nick I encourage that assumption.

Sandbox Jesse, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

shut up, you knew what i meant

recently deposed application inspector for the (league of women voters), Friday, 2 December 2011 19:27 (twelve years ago) link

i keep cracking myself up thinking of someone zipping their lip in their pants zipper

n/a, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:28 (twelve years ago) link

Me toooooo

thejenny, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:35 (twelve years ago) link

I just snorted next to people I am walking next to reading it.

Sandbox Jesse, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:36 (twelve years ago) link

Jesse, you bleeping philistine, crème fraiche ≠ fresh cream

William (C), Friday, 2 December 2011 19:37 (twelve years ago) link

I think "frites" implies slender, golden-crispy fries, generally served with aioli or some other "exotic" dipping sauce. Possibly also served in a paper cone.

dyao think i'm sexy (jaymc), Friday, 2 December 2011 19:39 (twelve years ago) link

Chose to complete that sentence as:

Jesse, you bleeping philistine, get your lip out of your pants zipper.

thejenny, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:40 (twelve years ago) link

mouth-breathing and zipping do not mix

Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:49 (twelve years ago) link

frites don't frail me now

n/a, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:50 (twelve years ago) link

I giggled the whole way home.

I *know* what creme fraiche is. I should have just said biscotti, though.

Sandbox Jesse, Friday, 2 December 2011 19:59 (twelve years ago) link

Had a taste for a burger at lunch and went to Epic Burger. Half-empty and, literally, a 40 minute wait for my food. Annoying.

Bogus. Come to the JRTC for an M Burger next time!

thejenny, Friday, 2 December 2011 20:04 (twelve years ago) link

Every time I see that abbreviation, I think "JROTC."

dyao think i'm sexy (jaymc), Friday, 2 December 2011 20:04 (twelve years ago) link

As in: the kids in high school who dressed in military uniforms and marched with flags.

dyao think i'm sexy (jaymc), Friday, 2 December 2011 20:05 (twelve years ago) link

a 5 Guys just recently opened in HP, I went there the other day

can't say I'll go back to often (it's not walkable and I do not want to get even fatter than I already am) but it was damn good

Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Friday, 2 December 2011 20:05 (twelve years ago) link

Never had M Burger actually!

I think of ROTC too.
