you like?

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Thursday, 7 December 2006 02:13 (seventeen years ago) link

it's great!

deep space nine (deep space nine), Thursday, 7 December 2006 02:20 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, best thing about Kontroll (broadcast here a few weeks ago) ws the disclaimer, and the producers were forced to put that in. Other than that, they make the most of the gothy-ness of the subway - looks good if you're watching it in the early hours.

Night Watch ws broadcast last week - saw 10 mins and that ws enough for me.

Other things

Cinema:

Requiem - German exorcist movie. This ws great!

DVD sale:

The trial of Joan of Arc (Bresson)
Nobody Knows
Cries and Whispers
Jubilee

DVDs (borrowed from library):
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind
Fantastic Four
King Kong (Naomi Watts/Jackson)
Dogville

TV:
School of Rock
Assault on Precint 13
Le Divorce - Merchant Ivory thingy w/Naomi Watts and an appearance from Stephen Fry. Naomi attempts suicide and 10 mins later its like nothing happened..

haitch (not haitch) (haitch), Thursday, 7 December 2006 13:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Screened The World which, despite some Linklater-esque anime sequences and minimal distribution late last year, is strong enough to probably go in my list of this shitty year's best.

Alfred Soto (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 7 December 2006 15:00 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, i found the animated bits annoying.

v (sleep), Thursday, 7 December 2006 15:08 (seventeen years ago) link

2004: "God, such a shitty year for film."
2005: "Oh, wait, my bad - THIS is a shitty year for film."
2006: "What was I thinking? This is without a doubt the shittiest shit film shit year for shit!"

David RER (Frank Fiore), Thursday, 7 December 2006 15:09 (seventeen years ago) link

this year was not bad

this is cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 7 December 2006 15:59 (seventeen years ago) link

We are all allowed to get curmudgeonly in December.

Alfred Soto (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 7 December 2006 17:56 (seventeen years ago) link

v (sleep), Thursday, 7 December 2006 18:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't know that many people who thought 2004 was extremely bad.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 7 December 2006 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

deep space nine (deep space nine), Thursday, 7 December 2006 19:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Jack Black's shtick is more charming and less annoying when he's in front of kids.

blastocsyt (blastocyst), Thursday, 7 December 2006 20:58 (seventeen years ago) link

the amount of purposeful school of rock on this thread is sickening

this is cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 7 December 2006 21:02 (seventeen years ago) link

and convincing

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Thursday, 7 December 2006 21:03 (seventeen years ago) link

cutty is projecting

he loves school of rock

first movie he downloaded to his xbox

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Thursday, 7 December 2006 21:29 (seventeen years ago) link

i've never seen "school of rock", nor would i go see "the pick of destiny"

however, that "nacho libre" is something else

2005 was pretty good for Amerikkkan film. Brokeback, Good Night and Good Luck (best thing about DVD: you can fast forward through the jazz interludes), Wedding Crashers, Devil's Rejects, The Constant Gardener (honorary American), Domino.

milo (milo), Thursday, 7 December 2006 21:35 (seventeen years ago) link

thank you for smoking wasn't so bad! i liked the acting, the writing was decent if not necessarily inspired, it did drag in parts but hey. (only thing is that i feel like having a cigarette! which i'm sure i'd get bored of after 2 puffs anyway.)

really really really want to see inland empire. it's not out here until next wkend though (i think), am not going to read any reviews until i see it.

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Friday, 8 December 2006 05:34 (seventeen years ago) link

robyn where did you see that inland empire is coming out next wknd?!?!

WORRIED THAT I AM NOT DOING MY JOB PROPERLY

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Friday, 8 December 2006 05:35 (seventeen years ago) link

ocean's 12?!?!

much better than the first one, it entertains on par with the best of spielberg/badham/scott/tarantino, if not donen/minelli/edwards/lester, and if it has little redeeming social value, at worst it's a vicarious luxury vacation with a couple of your casually stylish actor friends.

nuneb (nuneb), Friday, 8 December 2006 06:57 (seventeen years ago) link

nuneb (nuneb), Friday, 8 December 2006 07:15 (seventeen years ago) link

"haha I saw School O Rock on tv the other night too (first time)
Jack Black's shtick is more charming and less annoying when he's in front of kids."

True dat -- I thought I'd hate it (Channel 4 screened a doc about Linklater and Jack Black managed to be insufferable in that, although the questions abt Linklater prob didn't encourage better answers) but within 20 mins I ws 'in', really.

xyzzzz__ (xyzzzz__), Friday, 8 December 2006 12:19 (seventeen years ago) link

I saw "Dungeons & Dragons" the other night, the one with the poche monkey in it

hehe

slockz, i just assumed IE was coming out here when it was released in LA but my assumption is probably totally wrong! i was about to be sad about it, but i'm going to be in NYC next week anyway! (fingers crossed) now i just have to decide whether to spend 3 of my precious nyc hrs on it, plus the resultant state it'll put me in... hm.

impermanent rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Friday, 8 December 2006 14:08 (seventeen years ago) link

gabbneb in hilarious Blake Edwards > Spielberg wtf'er

Dr M (Dr Morbius), Friday, 8 December 2006 14:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm more flummoxed by the equivalence he draws between Spielberg, John Badham, and Tony Scott.

Alfred Soto (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 8 December 2006 14:52 (seventeen years ago) link
