i thought he looked okay in the giants game -- he made a few bad throws, basically he looked like a guy that hadn't played football in over a year

i'm sorta taking this route w/ caleb hanie too, but unless a back up is just obviously bad on a tyler palko level i think ppl need to give him like 3 games at least to make a judgment on his ability to qb the team forward.

like the first 2.5 games or so of matt moore's tenure this year, i seriously thought he was one of the worst quarterbacks i've ever seen in my entire life. the jets game on monday night he was missing receivers that were literally open by 15 yards.

but now he's prob one of the top 15 or 20 qbs in the nfl, at least at the moment. most of these guys haven't played a live nfl regular season game for like over a year, and as the season ramps up they barely even take meaningful snaps in practice. there's probably a big adjustment period, for most.

xp yea lotsa checkdowns or designed screens/outs that most anyone could complete but still he deserves a modicum of credit for not being tyler palko or whomever

xp yeah i'm amazed at how far matt more has come--he's thrown some beautiful balls in his last couple games.

i actually looked up matt moore's CAR record at the wknd because i remembered him as a total bust and he has played so well recently, but i guess he had p decent numbers thru 7 games in 2009: 61% comp, 7.6y avg, 8td/2int

you have to also consider that Carolina's recieving core is terrible - it's amazing what Cam is doing with basically just Steve Smith as an above-average WR

Caleb Hanie looked much better than Palko - his second half was okay after a disasterous first. the problem for the Bears is that they can't really afford any more "we would have won this if we had Cutler" games b/c the Lions are on their tail for the WC and there's probably not room for both

i'm glad that the past few weeks have given us some clarity in the "which back ups are actually TERRIBLE" discussion from a few weeks back

i'm really feeling for them. as crazy as it is I think they need to call old #4. they are ranked near the top in nearly every metric but you can't succeed with TJ Yates

well t.j yates will probably suck, but he's third string, so it's kind of a whole different stratosphere

i was talking w/ a friend last week or so about how irresponsible it is for the jets to have brunell as a back up -- they're a team trying hard for a playoff spot and if sanchez gets hurt (and he's miraculously never missed time in the nfl, right?) that team is FUCKED cuz they don't even run the ball this year

tbh i thought yates looked raw but not without some promise. a week of first team reps might make all the difference

as a Raiders fan I'm mostly just amused because McClain has been a huge bust.

one thing I love about the NFL is you can really do almost anything and fans, GMs don't really care as long as you can play. I wish this attitude extended to stuff like end zone dances though.
