turpentine bros. / cococoma split 45

my friend sarah put that record out. the turpentine bros. 7" on alien snatch is one of my two favorite singles of the year, so so awesome. and bill/lisa/mike are my favorite band/people in chicago.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Monday, 11 December 2006 14:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Ian, the second Mark Tucker album (In the Sack) is even better. He lives here in SD. I bought some old vinyl copies of In the Sack and this 45 he put out in '79 from him once.

Tim: If you ever see a copy of it, would ya pick it up for me? And/or do you know if Destijl is going to reissue that one as well?

And otto: yes! turpentine bros. have become one of my fave current bands. too bad the LP went out of print before I could grab a copy :\ I guess Bomp won't re-press it unless they go on tour, which seems unlikely.

ian (orion), Monday, 11 December 2006 16:26 (seventeen years ago) link

turpentine brothers (justin, tara, zack) are from boston, cococoma (bill, lisa, mike) are friends and neighbors in chicago. i saw them in boston after i left nyc last month, it was a hellacious show.

In Beaumont,TX there is a record store/pipe shop where I go to look for records when I'm home. Last week on top of a self I found 'The History Of The House Sound Of Chicago' http://www.discogs.com/release/57624 , 12 LPs pricied at $25. I had brought in ten of my dad records to trade, records I had inherented that I would never listen to, like ringo star, canned heat etc. I asked the clerk how much I owed him, and he said that boxed set had been sitting there for ages, I can have it as an even trade. It is one of my best finds!

still kind of buzzing from bevin/blevin set last night, so listened to mostly very rhythmic, almost-chaotic stuff today (zach hill/mick barr, damsel, optrum, some steve reich, yoshida/muller/okura erstwhile record)

Tim: If you ever see a copy of it, would ya pick it up for me?

Yes. It was put out after he moved here, so there's always the chance that one will turn up. I found one in a dollar bin here once. Chris Fusetron was selling orig. vinyl copies of these for ages, but I don't think Stormy (he goes by name T. Storm Hunter now) is selling them to dealers anymore. (Don't know if DeStijl is putting it out or not.)

side 2's got some gnarly poppage. i treat my vinyl (and my needle, to be honest) like shit when i drink e_e

ian (orion), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 17:35 (seventeen years ago) link

sad, because side two becomes better than side one when you turn 25, ian

fuck u ageist.

that's the difference between being a record lover and a record collector ian. i wrecked one of the iggy tracks on a best of bomp compilation due to being overconfident of my abilities to change a record and drink a gin and tonic simultaneously.

this ryan adams shit is AWFUL, but still not as bad as the shiny pop-country version of "songbird" that i heard at the bookstore a few weeks ago. (being sung by a dude.)

xp
i've found out that singles are easier to change one-handed/drunk.
