aw slocki that is a bummer. my grandma died two years ago and i'm still bumming about it (although at that point in her life passing on was >>>>>>>> living like a bedbound senile vegetable.)

thanks dudes... two in one month (other was friend killed in a hit & run) is a srsly depressing thing.

i've never written/delivered a eulogy before but i'm doing it for my grandmother. i have total eulogy stage fright... but i imagine we'll get a pretty good crowd

and yeah she was ready to go. 95. lived through everything. died surrounded by her family; actually it's kind of amazing, my dad was RUSHING back on a plane last night from china, we didn't think he'd make it in time but she held on literally up to the moment he showed up. he saw her last breath. still kind of reeling from that. it was really really moving

I went to six funerals in one seven month period in 2000. There were three other funerals that I didn't even go to. I hate to be cliché and say "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger," but by that last service, I was pretty much "yeah, okay, let's get on with it."

I'm sorry s1ocki :( My granny passed away a few months ago, and it hit me a lot harder than I ever expected it to. It's a terrible thing.

aw, s1ocki, that is so tough. sounds like your grandmother lived a good strong life though - getting to do a eulogy for her is a good thing too

man that is awesome that he made it in time. when my dad's dad died, he was in nyc and had to rent a car and drive to philly at the drop of a hate and didn't make it in time, but they told his dad he was there and he was so out of it he didn't notice. my dad felt so bad about missing it though :(

190. being back at home means i have to listen to my mom recall the most banal details of her life to anyone and everyone she can ensnare into conversation ("i got this handbag as a gift but i didn't like it so i went to bloomingdale's to exchange it and do you know how much it cost? TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS! for an ugly handbag! can you imagine??" three times i've heard this story already, and i've only been home since friday night.)

the funeral is done, the eulogy went OK i think but when got to the cemetery, you're never gonna believe this, but they had dug up the wrong plot!! so it was a bit of a comedy of errors, the actual burial part. luckily it got straightened out. and honestly it's a pretty funny story.

196. moms coming home and finding dads dead on treadmills. (just happened to a friend of mine's mom+dad. dude had a good heart. but evidentally, maybe not as good as they thought. zoinks.)

i feel the work vibes on the last few. that one i posted about above... they did offer me the job. i think i'm gonna take it and just take my chances. had a good talk with my direct boss. for the first time in 6 years, i'll have group health coverage and paid time off. == shocking.

204. Someone at my work (who I don't know) died after fighting a mystery infection for two weeks in hospital. The informal word is that she got sick after getting a flu shot, and docs couldn't figure it out/fight it. Only 27 yrs old.

It might have been Guillain-Barre Syndrome. My dad got that after a flu shot. Got a little sick a few days later, and within half a week, he could hardly walk or lift a fork. Perfectly healthy at the time.

Which is why being AFFCAP and avoiding flu shots is really the only option.
