Scotty Magee, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 17:54 (twelve years ago) link

Only had a cursory listen. Sounds pretty similar to all the other tapes he's done this year

tell me more about reema major and how she was born in 1995????

dayo, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:02 (twelve years ago) link

and she's Canadian!

Number None, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:03 (twelve years ago) link

she grew up in kansas i thought? only moved to canada two years ago.

lex pretend, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:05 (twelve years ago) link

i'm amazed at how mature her voice is, if you didn't know you'd think she was a grown-ass woman - not just cuz she has a deep voice, it's the authority in it too

lex pretend, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:05 (twelve years ago) link

I've been bumping the 'i am legend' reema major tape/album? since lex made a passing mention of it on Singles Jukebox (so thanks Lex) 'I'm The One' is particularly great.

pandemic, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:05 (twelve years ago) link

from how confident she is/the way she raps/the way she looks I woulda guessed she's at least 20! jeez

dayo, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:06 (twelve years ago) link

lol xp

dayo, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:06 (twelve years ago) link

also I love how "i'm the one" sounds like a late 90s ruff rydaz track

dayo, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:06 (twelve years ago) link

yes!

pandemic, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:07 (twelve years ago) link

Looking at her wiki seems she moved with her family from Sudan at age three to Canada. It does mention her living in Kansas for a bit but doesn't say for how long. I think she's back in Toronto now though

Number None, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:07 (twelve years ago) link

we talked about reema major on old ilx - i think it was the goon thread i discovered her from!

lex pretend, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:08 (twelve years ago) link

i don't want my favourite rappers to be canadian :(

i dunno why i didn't give the new krit a fair shake before. maybe i just wasn't in the right mood when i first heard it. d-_-b "my sub"

furnace mane, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 22:43 (twelve years ago) link

My Sub is good. whole thing is kind of a mess tho

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 22:50 (twelve years ago) link

it's deff a lot messier than krit wuz here but there are some gems fo sho

furnace mane, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 23:01 (twelve years ago) link

krit needs to do an alchemist style album or something. his productions have been so on point lately.

v-shasty, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 23:06 (twelve years ago) link

wait, what krit are you guys talking about? I'm only up to Last King 2, which has the awesome 'Hold You Down' on it.

pandemic, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 23:15 (twelve years ago) link

feel like krit is totally hamming it up with his pronunciation of 'sub'

dayo, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 23:20 (twelve years ago) link

My Sub is on Last King 2

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 23:51 (twelve years ago) link

er no wait I mean Return 2 4eva. which is great. it's Last King 2 which is a bit of a mess

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 23:51 (twelve years ago) link

"R4 theme song" was my fav off that

k3vin k., Wednesday, 30 November 2011 23:59 (twelve years ago) link

Last King 2 is just odds and ends. Really looking forward to the album though, if Money On The Floor is anything to go by. His song with The Roots was actually pretty nice too but i don't think had anything to do with the production

Number None, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 23:59 (twelve years ago) link

right, thx. It turns out I actually have that, d'oh. That was this year? Feels like it was ages ago. Rap game move too fast.
xp

pandemic, Thursday, 1 December 2011 00:01 (twelve years ago) link

"money on the floor" is amazing, it didn't click for me the first couple of plays but then it seriously did

lex pretend, Thursday, 1 December 2011 00:14 (twelve years ago) link

i've never got with krit in large doses though. thought "country shit" was amazing too but the mixtape back to front bored me

lex pretend, Thursday, 1 December 2011 00:14 (twelve years ago) link

^^^ songs all sound same-y, but are pretty good individually

there are a lot of rap critics from the 90s that i don't want to hate on their recent writing but they give off such an 'old man in the club' vibe

Man what does the gun sounds crew think of Action Bronson? I miss being able to search real ilx right now. I just heard the album with Statik Selektah today and really kinda liked it, but I'm trying to figure out if its just because I miss having new Ghostface now or not. Really liking the production on this one tho. How does Lecter compare?

shakur rump (I left my login in El Sandboxo), Saturday, 31 December 2011 02:17 (twelve years ago) link

Lecter's better imo. More hardcore but I like both a lot

who is shakur rump?

anyway i agree w/ jayson greene here: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/16084-action-bronsonstatik-selektah-well-done/

I am womansplainer hear me roar (Shakey Mo Collier), Saturday, 31 December 2011 04:33 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i mean, i like him, but i don't take him very seriously, and anyone saying hes the best of what 2011 has to offer in terms of rap music is nuts.

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Saturday, 31 December 2011 04:34 (twelve years ago) link

it is telling that no one gives a shit that he's dropped nbombs on records released as recently as last year

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Saturday, 31 December 2011 04:34 (twelve years ago) link

wait people are saying he's the best of 2011? that's just sad. not that 2011 was a banner year for rap or anything.

I am womansplainer hear me roar (Shakey Mo Collier), Saturday, 31 December 2011 04:40 (twelve years ago) link

i've seen a bunch of places talk about how 2011 is like the best year for rap in ages. its b/c so much stuff is online now that no matter your particular taste you can find some corny niche to fit your needs, no matter what the quality. people are stupid imho

joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Saturday, 31 December 2011 04:50 (twelve years ago) link

I ... guess? I dunno I don't really listen to rap that way. I mean there are certain things that appeal to me but I am not inclined to focus on a particular sub-strata. my fave stuff this year was probably Curren$y, Kool G Rap, E-40 + some other random old stuff I was catching up on
