So, uh, how was everyone's Thanksgiving?

Yikes, Scott! Glad Rufus is okay! So many kids fall on the boat stairs.
Most inspired use of Tgfiving leftovers: a friend of mine made turkey-stuffing-mashed potato SPRING ROLLS, which we dipped in cranberry sauce. YUM!
I overcooked my contribution to the feast. I do this almost every year. Fell asleep on the sofa until brussel sprouts were pallid mush and butternut squash burned to the bottom of the pan. The squash was salvageable, but the sprouts—ech. Actually, my husband loved them.
Everyone was well behaved, and it was all over pretty quickly.

horrible, but why is this coming out in courier font? cool! but yesterday, I took a walk in East Rock Park and went on some trails and saw birds with orange red chests and a baby squirrel.

Robins? Towhees? Orioles?

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 01:56 (seventeen years ago) link

probably robins, but I had to do a google image search, and I'm not even certain.

youn, Wednesday, 29 November 2006 02:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Even though they're thought of as a sign of spring, I've seen robins here in fall and winter, feasting on juniper berries. Of course, it's so freakishly warm for this time of year—all bets are off as to what the migrating birds will do.
Speaking of birds, I put the whole turkey carcass on my dinner plate last night and picked away at it. No white meat left, so my husband's not interested anymore. Still some left for tonight, the tender oysters underneath. What are those, anyway?

Squaxin Island tribal casino buffet outdid itself today with serious meat and dessert options. Good mashed potatoes, sad looking brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes all done up with stuff I don't like (brown sugar/marshmallows/etc). Hung out in the hotel lobby knitting while Mr. Jaq and his mom lost $$. Glad to be home again. Dinner was cheese + crackers.

jaq, Friday, 27 November 2009 03:00 (fourteen years ago) link

i had some chicken noodle soup with a guaifenesin chaser.

e does F want thanksgiving dinner or does he not care?

jergins, Friday, 27 November 2009 04:54 (fourteen years ago) link

he loves it. we are having our thanksgiving in four hours. we usually do it on the friday so we're in synch with the states. he snuck home at lunch so he can have a long weekend. i just made stuffing while f. prepped the turkey and harry lay under the christmas tree, he loves it down there. we called f.'s family and now f. is taking a nap<3

estela, Friday, 27 November 2009 04:59 (fourteen years ago) link

estela, Friday, 27 November 2009 05:05 (fourteen years ago) link

estela, Friday, 27 November 2009 05:13 (fourteen years ago) link

jergins, Friday, 27 November 2009 22:11 (fourteen years ago) link

estela, Friday, 27 November 2009 22:17 (fourteen years ago) link

estela, Friday, 27 November 2009 22:36 (fourteen years ago) link

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 28 November 2009 02:36 (fourteen years ago) link

two ways to read that!

jergins, Saturday, 28 November 2009 02:44 (fourteen years ago) link

jergins, Saturday, 28 November 2009 07:21 (fourteen years ago) link

tehresa, Saturday, 28 November 2009 07:33 (fourteen years ago) link

a 24k engagement ring perhaps?

jergins, Saturday, 28 November 2009 07:35 (fourteen years ago) link

i certainly would not eat that

tehresa, Saturday, 28 November 2009 07:36 (fourteen years ago) link

why would you eat a ring, that'd be silly!

tehresa, Saturday, 28 November 2009 07:36 (fourteen years ago) link

who says u have to eat it ; )

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 28 November 2009 12:24 (fourteen years ago) link

i dunno i like to watch crappy cable shows about prison and i've seen a couple about smuggling stuff and the guards always use the word "secreted" when an inmate secrets something inside his person. i always liked how it had two possible meanings if you read it.

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 28 November 2009 12:25 (fourteen years ago) link

happy thanksgiving!! (belatedly)

<3

spent ours in chicago with the whanau. food was terrible. gah i have a terrible dislike of t-giving food except for the fake mashed potatoes my sis in law made. but seriously: sweet potatoes with marshmallows and cinnamon?? wtf is that about.

on the upside:
got close to $500 in gift cards at our wedding shower (which was supposed to be a bridal shower but i insisted that jordan be allowed to come so he was the only guy there)
got a SUPER FLASH GREEN IPOD for an early bday present from my lovely inlaws

smoove operator, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 00:12 (fourteen years ago) link

oh and we arrived home today to find my greencard in the letterbox

smoove operator, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 00:13 (fourteen years ago) link

they used the same photo on my GC that is on my work permit and i - no joke - look like a serial killer.

smoove operator, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 00:13 (fourteen years ago) link

maybe i will post pics of it to the WD'NTYLL thread

smoove operator, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 00:14 (fourteen years ago) link

congrats on getting that green card!

jaq, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 00:45 (fourteen years ago) link

can't believe they'd give you a green card what with the thanksgiving food hate. wasn't that one of the questions in ur interview???

jergins, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 03:32 (fourteen years ago) link

i heard of some green card interviews where they make sure you finish all the potatoes, all the stuffing, even check under your plate and in your pockets. strict but important imo

jergins, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 03:39 (fourteen years ago) link

even the orange jello w/ shredded carrot salad? That's harsh.

jaq, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 03:46 (fourteen years ago) link

once between lines in the pledge of allegiance i had to take bites of canned cranberrie sauce. it was gross but worth it in the end

jergins, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 03:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Seattle gang, I wish I could be with you today.

William (C), Thursday, 26 November 2015 14:26 (eight years ago) link

ate leftover pizza, read books all day. it was awesome.

i hate cooking, am not particularly good at it, but always thought i had to cook a ~~meal~~ for xmas and thanksgiving. last year we got pizza on thanksgiving and went out for indian for xmas, and it was fucking amazing! so i've sworn to never cook on those days ever again.

i don't even like any of the traditional thanksgiving food, anyway.

smoove operator, Monday, 30 November 2015 04:58 (eight years ago) link

those are wonderful ideas. this is bad to say but when my parents die in 30 years or so i will relish in not having to do thanksgiving or xmas. so stress.

spite n ease (harbl), Tuesday, 1 December 2015 01:28 (eight years ago) link

i legitimately hate holidays. i want to quit. it's like you can't even do it though. easier to tell everyone you know and your family that you have some kind of shameful disease than to say you don't want to do thanksgiving or christmas. i just want every day to be the same non-holiday. is that so much to ask?

spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 25 November 2016 02:49 (seven years ago) link

my family never did anything wrong to me i just don't want to be around them

I made my mom a cosmo and now she's passed out. At 6:35.

toadstool might (tehresa), Saturday, 26 November 2016 00:35 (seven years ago) link

it was okay

i like my parents and aunt and uncle and the latter's golden retriever jake (dude is so ~feathery~ he has to get his feet trimmed!) and fat cat chloe

can never sleep there, tho

my mom spent the whole time staring at me and building a guilt trip about visiting for xmas. srsly it's creepy -- i'd totally go if she'd stop fuckin staring at me

no doubt i'll go anyway because she and i are all way old and they're gonna die and i'm their only child. at least no one voted for orange asshole, or i wouldn't have shown up for this

mookieproof, Saturday, 26 November 2016 04:28 (seven years ago) link

asked my (irish) uncle his thoughts on the late william trevor; he said 'he was a year ahead of us at trinity and we all thought he was a prick'

mookieproof, Saturday, 26 November 2016 04:30 (seven years ago) link

i know this is not a bad problem to have but i can't even tolerate people talking about donald trump being bad. i just don't want to hear about it anymore. and every year i realize more and more all of my worst personality traits come from my dad. everything he does i'm like, fuck, do i do that? nooooooooo

spite n ease (harbl), Saturday, 26 November 2016 18:16 (seven years ago) link
