i mean they'll easily make the playoffs too but they'll get murdered in their first game

v-shasty, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:11 (twelve years ago) link

The Texans are like a pile of burning tires now. I feel kinda bad for them.

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:14 (twelve years ago) link

xps yeah actually I think Hanie will be ok. It was a tough situation going into Oakland in your first game. Raiders D is playing well right now.

Yates on the other hand, you wonder how many snaps he's even taken this year.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:17 (twelve years ago) link

Like signing Favre is a ridiculous idea but when your starter is a 5th rounder who was third string 2 weeks ago, and you just had a competition workout between Delhomme and Jeff Garcia... it's really the time for ridiculous ideas.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:18 (twelve years ago) link

DOUG FLUTIE

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:18 (twelve years ago) link

yates was barely good at UNC last year

v-shasty, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:19 (twelve years ago) link

honestly how bad can delhomme be? (don't answer that question)

v-shasty, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:19 (twelve years ago) link

there's a part of me that hopes he's the most terrible we've seen, if only for the ILNFL lols. But that's just mean.

VegemiteGrrrl, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:20 (twelve years ago) link

Texans are so damn good apart from the QB position. as good as any recent team I can recall.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:49 (twelve years ago) link

I'm a bit on the fence on the Texans, they have handled what has been dealt, but they got a pretty sweet ass schedule with Peyty going down.

They did lose to B-more (who has coughed up a couple games), the Raiders and Saints. Their best win is against the Steelers.

Personally, I think they are not as good as the Bears with Cutler and are probably about the same with the backup Qbs.

earlnash, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 05:38 (twelve years ago) link

Texans have a top 5 defense, top 5 o-line, andre johnson and arian foster. They were 7-3 with Matt Schaub. If they had Cutler as QB they go 8-2 at least imo.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 05:43 (twelve years ago) link

If they had Favre they'd go 4-4-4-4-0 (16-0)

btw all you IDIOTS who say Tebow wasn't responsible for the win last Sunday, check this out:

pip pip, chums. the old gridiron, what? splendid.

so, tonight. only worth watching for the remote but not inconceivable possibility that philly might lose y/n?

horseshoe loves tom brady, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:09 (twelve years ago) link

philly is away--i think the possibility is a bit more than remote!

cad, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:21 (twelve years ago) link

Philly lost at home to Arizona and are playing in one of the toughest stadiums for visiting teams. Also, they are starting Vince Young. So you're saying, there's a chance...

I'm in the mood to party (J0n Arbuckle), Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:22 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, i can see it, although seattle are still bad even if they have been getting slightly better over the season. it is some spice to an otherwise terrible fixture for the neutrals.

horseshoe loves tom brady, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:31 (twelve years ago) link

also x 2, apropos of nothing:

horseshoe loves tom brady, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:34 (twelve years ago) link

those are both amazing

OH NOES, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:35 (twelve years ago) link

only saw the last few drives of wash vs seattle last wk but tavaris looked so bad i could almost not believe it

j crunchwrap supreme, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:40 (twelve years ago) link

The Hawks beat the Ravens in Seattle so anything can happen. Just as far as "good-to-great team" vs. "terrible team" matches go this one seems really likely for an "upset" (even though they're both 4-7!)

I'm in the mood to party (J0n Arbuckle), Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:41 (twelve years ago) link

crunchwrap have you also been watching Vince Young

I'm in the mood to party (J0n Arbuckle), Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:41 (twelve years ago) link

somewhat. i was amazed by how far his dropbacks are. he runs like 12 yds backward sometimes! he at least had 400 something yds of passing on the pats right? not that it's that huge an accomplishment

j crunchwrap supreme, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:45 (twelve years ago) link

p sure seattle is gonna win that one

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:47 (twelve years ago) link

we gonna start a new thread for sunday?

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:48 (twelve years ago) link

they were playing from behind most of the game. i didn't see all of it but i did see his game vs. the Giants and he looked downright Tebow-esque (except he was actually getting picked off!)

I'm in the mood to party (J0n Arbuckle), Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:48 (twelve years ago) link

i thought he looked okay in the giants game -- he made a few bad throws, basically he looked like a guy that hadn't played football in over a year

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:56 (twelve years ago) link

i'm sorta taking this route w/ caleb hanie too, but unless a back up is just obviously bad on a tyler palko level i think ppl need to give him like 3 games at least to make a judgment on his ability to qb the team forward.

like the first 2.5 games or so of matt moore's tenure this year, i seriously thought he was one of the worst quarterbacks i've ever seen in my entire life. the jets game on monday night he was missing receivers that were literally open by 15 yards.

but now he's prob one of the top 15 or 20 qbs in the nfl, at least at the moment. most of these guys haven't played a live nfl regular season game for like over a year, and as the season ramps up they barely even take meaningful snaps in practice. there's probably a big adjustment period, for most.

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:59 (twelve years ago) link

xp yea lotsa checkdowns or designed screens/outs that most anyone could complete but still he deserves a modicum of credit for not being tyler palko or whomever

j crunchwrap supreme, Thursday, 1 December 2011 14:59 (twelve years ago) link

xp yeah i'm amazed at how far matt more has come--he's thrown some beautiful balls in his last couple games.

cad, Thursday, 1 December 2011 15:05 (twelve years ago) link

i actually looked up matt moore's CAR record at the wknd because i remembered him as a total bust and he has played so well recently, but i guess he had p decent numbers thru 7 games in 2009: 61% comp, 7.6y avg, 8td/2int

horseshoe loves tom brady, Thursday, 1 December 2011 15:12 (twelve years ago) link

you have to also consider that Carolina's recieving core is terrible - it's amazing what Cam is doing with basically just Steve Smith as an above-average WR

Caleb Hanie looked much better than Palko - his second half was okay after a disasterous first. the problem for the Bears is that they can't really afford any more "we would have won this if we had Cutler" games b/c the Lions are on their tail for the WC and there's probably not room for both

I'm in the mood to party (J0n Arbuckle), Thursday, 1 December 2011 15:36 (twelve years ago) link

i'm glad that the past few weeks have given us some clarity in the "which back ups are actually TERRIBLE" discussion from a few weeks back

palko might be my #2 worst, after brunell

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 16:03 (twelve years ago) link

lets see who the Texans start this week

i'm really feeling for them. as crazy as it is I think they need to call old #4. they are ranked near the top in nearly every metric but you can't succeed with TJ Yates

I'm in the mood to party (J0n Arbuckle), Thursday, 1 December 2011 16:05 (twelve years ago) link

well t.j yates will probably suck, but he's third string, so it's kind of a whole different stratosphere

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 16:07 (twelve years ago) link

i was talking w/ a friend last week or so about how irresponsible it is for the jets to have brunell as a back up -- they're a team trying hard for a playoff spot and if sanchez gets hurt (and he's miraculously never missed time in the nfl, right?) that team is FUCKED cuz they don't even run the ball this year

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 16:09 (twelve years ago) link

vince sucks btw

forksclovetofu, Thursday, 1 December 2011 16:11 (twelve years ago) link

tbh i thought yates looked raw but not without some promise. a week of first team reps might make all the difference

horseshoe loves tom brady, Thursday, 1 December 2011 16:11 (twelve years ago) link

the rest of their schedule is: atl, @ cin, car, @ ind, ten

that's really manageable

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 16:17 (twelve years ago) link

is Brunell really that much of a step down from Mark freakin Sanchez?

I'm in the mood to party (J0n Arbuckle), Thursday, 1 December 2011 16:26 (twelve years ago) link

i'm not sure if brunell can throw the ball 40 yards

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 16:27 (twelve years ago) link

Filed to ESPN: Vikings plan to release Donovan McNabb today, according to a league source.

the texans GM is taking a leerjet to minneosta right now, right?

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

wouldnt someone w/ a worse record claim him 2 fuck over houston? thats how it works right?

j crunchwrap supreme, Thursday, 1 December 2011 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

oh, true

v-shasty, Thursday, 1 December 2011 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

I think Lovie likes Hanie, so I don't see Chicago going after him. Philly definitely won't have him back. As mentioned upthread, Dolphins are in an okay place with Moore. He may very well fall to Houston.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 1 December 2011 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

tenn especially or any of hte afc 6-5 or 7-4 teams would be dumb not to claim him just 2 block houston

j crunchwrap supreme, Thursday, 1 December 2011 19:02 (twelve years ago) link

Good point.
