Stence - realistically speaking, any FAPs that take place outside of Zone 1 tend to be pretty, erm, select affairs. There's a lot to be said for keeping things central.

Obv this depends on where you're staying, whether or not you want to stay drinking with Beggars ppl etc.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 23:01 (seventeen years ago) link

i didn't realize it wasn't zone 1. i know fuck all about your city so if someone has some better ideas and suggestions, this is the thread! don't know what i'm doing work-wise either but i'll try to get any meetings and what not sorted before friday.

hstencil not logged in, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 23:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I've asked that this thread title be changed for any future ATP FAP plans too. I am hoping some beering will ensue.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Sunday, 3 December 2006 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

so i guess someone else has the hstencil name registered, so i was locked outta this thread. great. anyway, still getting in wednesday morning. what's the plan? what's a convenient place to go? i know where i'm staying, but not what part of london, so i'll try to find that out tomorrow.

Tyrone (Tyrone Slothrop), Monday, 4 December 2006 00:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Tyrone Slothrop is Remy's old old old ILX name, dude! CONFUSING!!

jw (ex machina), Monday, 4 December 2006 00:55 (seventeen years ago) link

dang, well, i guess i should've taken a name from "against the day" or something.

Tyrone Slothrop (Tyrone Slothrop), Monday, 4 December 2006 01:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I suggest Saturday lunchtime for ATP. Pick one of the on-site bars since we don't know what's outside.

(Right, I'm setting off on the UK leg of WORK NIGHTMARE)

Trekking down to wandswort is Ok but Waterloo might make a better location, how about:

http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub1008.html

Ed (dali), Monday, 4 December 2006 07:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah Waterloo makes sense - easy for Stence to get in from Wandsworth and central enough for everyone else. I'm not familiar with the White Hart (although for a second I got it confused with the Wellington, which is horrible).

Looks good though, although you can't go wrong with the King's Arms either, especially for biggish groups.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 4 December 2006 09:23 (seventeen years ago) link

That looks like a better choice.

Ed (dali), Monday, 4 December 2006 09:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Wait, wait, WTF three stages?

I'll be amazed if the waterworld is actually open to the ATP hordes.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 4 December 2006 09:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Selfishly, I would approve of a pub near Waterloo on the basis that I have my Finnish exam earlier on that night in the area and might be in desperate need of a strengthening pint after all that I sauna, you sauna, he/she/it saunas etc etc.

The King's Arms has food plus long tables in the back room that are FAP-friendly, so I say we go there unless anyone has any major objections.

as it turns out, the apartment i'll be staying at is in kentish town. i have no idea where that is. does that help at all?

Tyrone Slothrop (Tyrone Slothrop), Monday, 4 December 2006 15:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Kentish Town is the middle of nowhere! Wandsworth much better!

(warning: Sarf London prejudice may be speaking there.)

I have finally heard from Dare! I may not be around on Thursday night. But if I'm not around on Thursday night, that means I'll be at the festival. We are trying to coordinate. I hope she can come to our gig, too!

masonic boom (kate), Monday, 4 December 2006 15:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Who are the "and many more" for ATPOMGWTFAP?

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 4 December 2006 15:55 (seventeen years ago) link

that puts you not incredibly close to the FAP but at least you're on the right tube line! (i.e. the Northern Line, i.e. the Black One; just remember to travel down via Charing Cross, not Bank (the Northern Line splits in two for awhile, before joining back up with itself))

time: 6:00?

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 4 December 2006 15:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Kentish Town is in the borough of Camden which is north of Proper Central London - it's on one branch of the Northern Line, just up from Camden Town. If you were going to there from the Beggars' offices you'd probably be required to change at Waterloo anyway.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 4 December 2006 15:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Am considering now leaving work early Thursday and coming down for a bit of StencFAP action depending on where people will be and at what time. I have to get the train from KX at 9pm

tissp! (tissp!), Monday, 4 December 2006 15:56 (seventeen years ago) link

I may be going on slides at the Tate Modern that afternoon so can be in the pub from whenever people are likely to get there.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Argh, I've spent so long thinking that I *wouldn't* be going, and making alternate plans, that I now have no idea how I'm going to fit everything in!

I also planned to spend this weekend preparing the house for my mum's visit the week after!

masonic boom (kate), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:02 (seventeen years ago) link

ah okay i think waterloo might be the best idea, then. 6 or 7? which pub? i think some beggars people + bands might stop by as well.

anybody going to the 6 organs of admittance show on wednesday at cargo?

wait kate so now you're going to atp? cool!

Tyrone Slothrop (Tyrone Slothrop), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:06 (seventeen years ago) link

No, no one is doing anything on Wednesday except seeing SHimura Curves at the Social! ::stamps feet::

I don't know yet. Dare doesn't know if they are leaving for Minehead on Thursday or Friday. If it's Thursday, I may not be able to go, due to getting time off work. Which means that I would come to your FAP. If they go down Thursday evening, or Friday, I'll be going down with them.

Ha ha, we won't be at the holiday camp, we'd be at some posh hotel, which might be missing the point a bit. But still. I'm not going to say no to free tickets and a ride down on the tourbus!

I haven't seen Dare in AAAGES. Hanging out with her is clearly WAAAAAAYYYYY more important than work, tho. ;-)

masonic boom (kate), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:09 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm anticipating there being too many names to remember, already.

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:13 (seventeen years ago) link

i didn't realize you had a show wednesday, kate! where is it at? maybe, depending, i can make both. not sure. i think 6oa kinda depends on whether i can get in touch with ben in time to get in on the list.

looks like i'm not staying at the holiday camp, but at a b&b nearby with friends, at something like $50 a night (which don't hurt a bit).

Tyrone Slothrop (Tyrone Slothrop), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:14 (seventeen years ago) link

How easy is it to get KX->Waterloo at 6pm ish? Is it going to be mad on the tube?

tissp! (tissp!), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Stence, I've told you, like, three times already on various threads that we have a show on Wednesday!

At the Social (Little Portland Street). Which kinda sucks as a venue, but it's really central, and I think the show is free.

masonic boom (kate), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Too many subjects for one thread type meltdown.

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Kings X to Waterloo = the Northern Line which is always shit as a tube line anyway. But it shouldn't be too bad, and it gets better slightly after rush hour so by 6 it might be doable.

masonic boom (kate), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Actuyally, no, wrong branch, innit? I don't know NOrf London!

masonic boom (kate), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Tyrone Slothrop (Tyrone Slothrop), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Can anyone help confirm who ATP people are? This is getting terribly confusing, and it'd help me to remember who's who if I find out before I arrive.

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah it's on the Northern Line--TFL sez 15 minutes but then again, that's what TFL say

tissp! (tissp!), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:32 (seventeen years ago) link

On this VERY thread, Stence:

Dare is coming, and continuing her tour of London's poshest hotels, but she still doesn't know her schedule yet. Repeat, the joys on offer are:
6th December: Shimura Curves/Pamphlet at the Social
7th: StenceFAP, location unknown as yet
8th: Poptimism, Union Tavern
9th: The Lugubrious Gooblar at RoTa, Notting Hell

-- masonic boom (kateotheremai...), November 28th, 2006 12:03 PM. (kate) (later)

I'm having watercooler flashbacks.

teh_kit (g-kit), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Stence, Kentish Town is central enough for standard going-out needs, don't listen to these south london mentals. Also it's a really nice area, I think (mind you i have lived round there all my life).

kings x and waterloo are on diff nline branches, yes: quickest option by tube is probably piccadilly line to leicester square, then northern line to waterloo. but it'll be pretty packed at 6ish, still.

so how were the dead c?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 11 December 2006 10:58 (seventeen years ago) link

The Dead C were great, but not as good as the MC5 battling on with no PA. Colonel Poo got hit over the head with a chair during Negative Approach, he seemed to think this was one of the highlights of his weekend...

Sorry about missing The Day The Bowling Turned Dayglo last night. And sorry for missing Stence.

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Monday, 11 December 2006 15:17 (seventeen years ago) link

i was sorry not to fap w/ hstencil and everyone, ailsa v. kindly texted me, but a) I got caught up in the plans and schemes of my london friends, who i hadn't seen for a few months and had been missing terribly, and b) after three months enforced abstinence, access to v. gd h3mp meant i was at last truly on the right vibrational plane to appreciate mouthus et al

i don't expect a fest in the uk to ever have such gd music again so i can't see myself going back to an ATP - shame, cos the chalets were actually WARM in this place

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Monday, 11 December 2006 21:24 (seventeen years ago) link

the dead c. were fucking awesome.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 08:51 (seventeen years ago) link

By the way, before this slips into the archives, I wanted to say that everyone I met and FAPed with was thoroughly nice.

Other non-music related ATP stuff:
Ward Fowler, I smoked yr w33|) last night.
Did I mention that I won TWO Sonics in ONE grab?
I won my pie-eating contest.
Guinness and Lime is strangely drinkable.
I discovered that I can, in fact, be late for pretty much anything.
The arcades at Butlins need more focus.

teh_kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 10:09 (seventeen years ago) link

We won Vicky Pollard and Daffyd keyrings from the 10p falls machine. I really wish I'd played the percussion machine. I was a bit miffed that the big raft ride was off. Bowling to Jesus Built My Hotrod = teh awesome. Being designated as the barometer of crapness at bowling = not quite so much.

I am the worst air-hockey player in the world, as Andrew F will testify.

And Guinness and lime is weird and pointless.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 10:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Damn, we spent ages staring at that percussion game, too, only to be intimidated into leaving it well alone.
Maybe they should've had a little Pontins bear standing there going "Sorry Kits, Your Balls Need to be THIS BIG to play this game."

teh_kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 10:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I think everyone spent ages staring at it, it was in prime Really Long Queue spot. Next time!

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 10:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm still sore.

Great meeting everyone, had a fucking fantastic time all weekend.

I missed the goth bowling FAP but we had our own on Sunday afternoon, they played Bela Lugosi's Dead again for us.

Guiness and lime was strangely enjoyable!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 13:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, dude - that's pretty much the vibe I was feeling by Sunday night! Thanks to all here for their warmth and collaboration in what was a fairly unbelievable weekend! It seemed pretty clear by the second day that this was something the like of which might not be seen again, musically at least. That was maybe the only problem I had with it - that there was so much going on that there was very little time for general hanging out and taking stock. Just relentless. I had a blast. Hope you all did too.

(I'll be posting some of my comments on the bands over on (fake) ILM at some point soon.)

OTM! I'm not exactly sure why it seemed so manic this time. The whole weekend seemed to go by in a flash, though I remember at most previous years' ATPs, we spent a lot of time hanging out etc.

teh_kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 13:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, hanging out time was at a premium. Partly, I think, because of proximity of town --> time off camp.
