It's mostly unfamiliar stuff, songwise. Colin opted out of the process.

One of my old bands had a demo of some of Col's unused songs with a "hey, use them if you want to" brief, but umm... ah... (tnvg)!"

I have Volumes 1-4, out of which I made one mix CD of the "better" stuff - I could do without the demo versions of various things and all the pointless studio filler (Andy making funny voices! doing a radio spot for some obscure british DJ! turning a drum machine on and off!). Still, bunch of interesting things on there. Now that I have 4 volumes tho, I can't bring myself to buy the box set, doesn't seem worth it.

It is interesting to see how he recycles bits of songs - grabbing a bridge from an old song here, inserting the chord change from another song there, etc.

I remember you saying that before, Mark, about your old band and the Colin songs...what happened? And can I get a hold of this precious artifact? I too have avoided this box set. A Colin fan has to put his foot down somewhere.

whatever happened to Partridge's project with the Apples in Stereo guy?

"Did you get any of the individual volumes?"

I got 1-6, haven't got 'round to 7 and 8 and am a bit pissed off about being rewarded for sticking with the project by the fact that Vol. 9 is apparently only available with the box set.

You can buy just the box and Vol 9 from Andy's website for £10.99 or get it with volumes 7 and 8 for about £25. Pretty good deal.

Yeah, just going to say that.

I plunged in with volume five first, after playing the '2 tracks from each' promodisc, it's pretty damn wonderful stuff and the sleevenotes are the icing on it.

Bimb: What happened? We wrote our own, did a pretty good job and split prematurely, as it goes with most bands. The artifact I only heard the once, and I guess the bandmate that owned the tape probably still has it and probably doesn't know where.

Thanks, done that.

hmm maybe I'll do that too... altho I'll still have to hunt down vol 5-6 for completism's sake. argggh

You can get 1-6 there fairly cheap, although it ain;t quite as cheap as it looks (by the time they'd added VAT and P&P to my order it was more like £35 than £25)

So much for me 'pacing' myself, having done the 'best of', Vols 5, 6, 1 and 2 so far (in 3 days..)

Can't fault the delivery - it arrived today - and Mr. Grout is correct, it is a big box (and rather an attractive one too I'd say).

You know, I can sneak around with me Clash CD singles box set quite easily (all singles with extra tracks representing UK/USA/Promo variations, although they forgot the "I fought the law" Reprise on the Cost Of Living e.p.), but I have to keep the APartridge bigbox in the boot (it looks too attractive left on the front seat!)
