You can't dance with dragons, but you can dance as freely as you want when you are in space. You're not bound by stupid old gravity.
Where does the bottom of the ocean fit into this equation?

Dragons are "monsters" and stand in for the unknown and un-conquered of all kinds. In particular, reptilian figures are often linked to that which is unknown about the earth/nature. I'm a big fan of that.
― Making like Melusine (Pyth), Tuesday, 29 November 2011 16:46 (twelve years ago) link
That is a compelling idea, and I love nature and its unknownness, but it's such an earth-limited view.
― La Lechera, former application inspector for the (league of women voters), Tuesday, 29 November 2011 16:48 (twelve years ago) link
I vote dragons because reptiles in myth get a bad rap and I think they're way more important than the sagas/Grimm Bros let on.
Since most dragons appear to have six limbs, I don't think they are reptiles. I guess they are some kind of giant insects or crustaceans?
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 16:50 (twelve years ago) link
snakes have no limbs, are they not reptiles either?
― OH NOES, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 16:55 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah, but the maximum number of limbs a reptile can have is four. Even snakes are descended from tetrapods.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 16:58 (twelve years ago) link
Can't really imagine a kids' movie about training your space
― M. White, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 16:58 (twelve years ago) link
What the hell do you mean, "most" dragons??
― Making like Melusine (Pyth), Tuesday, 29 November 2011 17:01 (twelve years ago) link
snakes are just giant limbs
― smh, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 17:01 (twelve years ago) link
Anyway, I think this piece of evidence should win the argument:

I also think of it as interior space/dragon and exterior space/space, though? Like space is gonna make us as we know "us" obsolete, or so different that we won't know where we came from. (I was thinking the other night while wringing out laundry about what a world without gravity or with very weak gravity would be like, and realized the differences in how we would live were eclipsed by the greater differences in what would have evolved as "human" in the first place.)
Whereas dragons are gonna show you what was already in you that you didn't even know about; primal, secret things.
― Making like Melusine (Pyth), Tuesday, 29 November 2011 17:15 (twelve years ago) link
Aw see I already know those things and I am ready to float in space, thank u

"Some legends even speak of the dragons being a comet from space and this is definitely another additive to this scenario due to the fact that comets usually accompany fire."

I feel like space would only be palatable if FTL travel was provided. otherwise it'd be a BIG BORE.

xp - And then what, a dragon? Everything is a journey, you will never get there.
― La Lechera, former application inspector for the (league of women voters), Tuesday, 29 November 2011 17:42 (twelve years ago) link
think about all the space pollution space travel would bring - what if we changed the universe from a red shift universe to a blue shift universe because people were choosing mass produced spaceliners from betelguese V instead of artisanal, locally sourced cruiseships from alpha centauri?
