Jenny! Hello!

toes bonesly, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 02:51 (twelve years ago) link

surprised to find no eponym/namesake pedantry itt

I actually was not aware until earlier today (at work) that "X's namesake" could mean "someone that also has X's name" -- I thought it only meant "someone X was named after."

jaymc, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 04:02 (twelve years ago) link

i think to be precise you're supposed to use "eponym" for the person or thing after whom/which the "namesake" is named

Im in a tight budget till Friday.

Two of the Dumpsters at my office blew all the way out into the street and the Red Eye and Trib machines across the street did too.

Sandbox Jesse, Tuesday, 29 November 2011 18:46 (twelve years ago) link

i'm gonna say it -- this "grass jelly" sounds pretty tasty to me

La Lechera, former application inspector for the (league of women voters), Tuesday, 29 November 2011 22:36 (twelve years ago) link

The flavor, he said, is similar to anise. "It takes a while to develop on your palate. When you first eat it, it tastes like absolutely nothing. Five, ten minutes later you start to feel a sensation. We were joking yesterday that it sort of tastes like bad sambuca with pennies in it."

La Lechera, former application inspector for the (league of women voters), Tuesday, 29 November 2011 22:37 (twelve years ago) link

also, nice sunset today in spite of truly ugly weather

La Lechera, former application inspector for the (league of women voters), Tuesday, 29 November 2011 22:48 (twelve years ago) link

This board is almost unusable without bookmarks.

Jeff, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 01:00 (twelve years ago) link

my bookmarks are working better than they did on regular ilx tbrr

La Lechera, former application inspector for the (league of women voters), Wednesday, 30 November 2011 01:27 (twelve years ago) link

only issue i'm having is not being able to turn off images

CTA was fucked up today but it was almost rehabilitated by the hilariously talkative train driver i had for most of my commute home.

n/a, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 01:51 (twelve years ago) link

My bookmarks works for this thread and a couple others, but definitely not all.

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 02:37 (twelve years ago) link

the Wish Anus bookmark never fails

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 02:42 (twelve years ago) link

no bookmark probs here afaict

Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:12 (twelve years ago) link

I have no bookmark problems either, although when browsing on my phone, I have to "click to confirm" that I want to add a bookmark, at which point I am whisked back to SNA, whereas here, I just bookmark the thread and stay on the same page.

thejenny, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 13:18 (twelve years ago) link

You know what is great? Grapefruit. Grapefruit is great.

thejenny, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 13:19 (twelve years ago) link

Yes, it is! Jennifur, do you have grapefruit spoons? They are handy.

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 14:32 (twelve years ago) link

My memory was jogged by "grapefruit", for some reason, to remind me that I wanted to post about JUICE FASTERS in this thread. I'm certain we've talked about it before, maybe even on the sandbox? WTF, juice fasters? I have a friend who is evangelizing via fb for this and it's hard to read sometimes.

Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 14:46 (twelve years ago) link

we live in an eating disordered society
that is all i have to say about it really

La Lechera, former application inspector for the (league of women voters), Wednesday, 30 November 2011 14:55 (twelve years ago) link

It's beyond eating, it's straight up science ignorance.

Jeff, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 16:10 (twelve years ago) link

Jeff, I want you to share a database of debunking sources. You're my anti-woo guru.

A fitting response to claims of the Cult of Natural, I suppose.

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 17:06 (twelve years ago) link

omg irl at work LOLs

thejenny, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 17:06 (twelve years ago) link

I do not have a grapefruit spoon. I just use a knife to free the sections and then eat them with a regular spoon. Not even a grapefruit knife, either. A steak knife! ~~rebel~~

ps juice fasts are super dumb.

thejenny, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 17:09 (twelve years ago) link

I'm a big fan of grapefruit, too.

Louis C.K. Williams (jaymc), Wednesday, 30 November 2011 17:10 (twelve years ago) link

Only my bookmarks for this thread and the wish anus are working now. The others stopped working.

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 18:39 (twelve years ago) link

EZ hasn't registered here yet, but he just posted this on the FB ILX secret group http://www.wbez.org/blog/city-room-blog/2011-11-30/walmart-makes-inroads-chicagos-north-side-lakeview-store-opening-9444.

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 19:46 (twelve years ago) link

I'm not going to shop there, but they did a nice job reusing of that space.

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 19:50 (twelve years ago) link

"There are three transgender employees working here,"

When asked why the opening release said "Walmart Express Opens in Wrigleyville" and not Boystown or even Lakeview, Restivo stressed it was not any slight to the gay community, but that the broader public would be more easily able to associate the location because of Wrigley Field.

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 19:51 (twelve years ago) link

"This store is creating 45-50 new jobs" -- but how many will be lost at other stores around the neighborhood?

Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 20:09 (twelve years ago) link

All of them.

thejenny, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 20:17 (twelve years ago) link

That area was already lousy with food stores without this addition. The good people of Lakeview are assured their nutrition.

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 20:20 (twelve years ago) link

I think it's a stretch to call that Wrigleyville. It's generally considered Wrigleyville ends at Fremont.

Jeff, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 20:53 (twelve years ago) link

Jeff, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 20:54 (twelve years ago) link

Jeff.

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 20:55 (twelve years ago) link

I've got a foul pole.

Sandbox Jesse, Wednesday, 30 November 2011 20:55 (twelve years ago) link

For you.
