SMILE A LITTLE SMILE FOR ME

ian (orion), Tuesday, 28 November 2006 07:05 (seventeen years ago) link

i've never seen that I'm the One cover. i've only seen the shiny big faced one. was it issued w/that other cover too?

yeah, that was a reissue. i posted that cover because with the original it's not entirely clear (unless you're familiar with it) what the record is.

they are kinda twee and proggy and folky, i dunno, i like them. i put them on for my brother-in-law the other nite and he didn't like it cuz it sounded "dumb". then he put on some townes van zandt.

Jon, Yoshida from Ruins has a good new record out with the former guitarist of a band called Tipographica, which was around in the 90s, and played kind of a Zappa-ish avant-prog. (also, there is a new Korekyojinn out)

cheater slicks - refried dreams LP. it'd been a while since i'd listened to this, i forgot how bleak it is. in this town, i think i'm coming down, dejected soul, last call... remind me to hide this album when i'm on a self-destructive streak.

jw (ex machina), Wednesday, 29 November 2006 17:29 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not a huge Bondage Fruit fan. They were good, but seemed a step behind Koenjihyakkei, who is probably the band they sound the most like. I have all of Korekyojinn's records -- no vox, instrumental power trio prog and improv, kind of like if Rush didn't sing and only played really complicated, relatively short songs. actually, the guitar sounds totally different than Rush, so that's not the greatest comparison...

Scott, after you posted the pic of Journey Through The Past I was like wtf is taht and tracked it down. It's really good. Amazing live version of "Ohio" recorded one month after Kent State, one of those moments when a song you've heard a bazillion times gutpunches you out of nowhere with its intensity + confuzed frenzy. The last 3 sides are pretty tasty as the album dissolves into a way-stoned lo-fi aural sculpture made from Neil rehearsals, convos w/ Christians, and marching bands. Love the spooky cover art, too.

Now I wanna see the movie.
