Right, this thread is for telling folk that the 'proper' ILX is down again, so if you see this above the "ILX is back up" thread it means ILX is back down

holy shit, jon banned someone. that is totally unheard of on ilx and would probably take hours if not weeks to undo. better shut the whole operation down, guys.

shut "faggot" mickey down more like

lexpretend (lexpretend), Sunday, 11 February 2007 22:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Apart from banning another poster, you mean?

jon was considerate enough to ban someone he knows doesn't post on ilx at weekends...figuring it would be revoked before monday morning. i don't think people really appreciate his thoughtfulness here.

sede vacante (blueski), Sunday, 11 February 2007 22:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Still, not mentioning this is being a tad disingenuous and doesn't exactly leave me inclined to believe everything else you're saying.

Well, I didn't let's say... lock ile... which is what in effect what has been done. Taking toys, and going home, etc

And banning someone from ile is not ok, but bullying several posters off of posting to threads you start and being a hateful lunatic is totally ok?

Well, I figured I had already shown up in the admin log, so I might as well do something silly... but yea

jw (ex machina), Sunday, 11 February 2007 22:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Jon - the Lou1s J4gger drugz stuff on IRE - I obviously can't link to it now, I think limited amount of people saw it, and I only saw it when someone else pointed me at it (and wouldn't have seen it any other way). It was horrible stuff - you've got to see why people wouldn't feel exactly great towards you after seeing it, right?? And after whatever you've done today - and we can at least agree you did SOMETHING - it's not painting a great picture!

As Matt says though, most of the time you don't register much with me, and I guess I don't register much with you either, but why is it that whenever you DO it's for things like this?

Sarah (Science of Unforunate Events), Sunday, 11 February 2007 22:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, I thought you mean something else.

As Matt says though, most of the time you don't register much with me, and I guess I don't register much with you either, but why is it that whenever you DO it's for things like this?

Because you only post on Chicago threads?

if only a few people know, why bother to demonstrate the flaw at all, as opposed to just contacting the coders discreetly?

Honestly, I planned on doing something kind of silly and non harmful (taking over IDME) and then having them see what's up.

Can we just fast-forward through the whole massive fight and get straight to the bit when Ronan posts a series of messages mocking the whole situation in a vaguely surreal manner?

i can't wait until ilx goes back to normal! you know, when people are monstrous assholes spewing vile at each other and nobody shuts down the whole thing because of silly little incidents.

so your intention was to demonstrate the flaw and then point out how to fix it so that nobody else would be able to do it ever again...on the basis that anyone else would be willing to...*puff*...at some point in the future?

Eisbär (Eisbär), Sunday, 11 February 2007 22:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Presumably this is what will happen:

- ILX to remain down until nu-code has been fully tested (or admins to RISK further hacking by putting them back up too soon)
- nu-ILX then launched
- everything returns to how it was the day before yesterday except we can all sleep soundly safe in the knowledge that it will now be much more difficult for a logged in regular (or otherwise) to hack the server in order to demonstrate a flaw with the existing code
- no 'punishment' on anyone because after all no real harm done eh?

Friends, Romans, Ilxers, lend me your ears! I LOVE HER. I don't know if it was the amyl nitrate or the dulcet tones of Brett Anderson's reggae song (OMG I LOVE!). Or maybe it was the copy of À La Recherche Du Temps Rerdu around her velutinous neck, and as I went to stroke it she made a bleating noise, and I'm sure I heard... jouissance.

ILE, I shall keep you updated.

There was an alpaca farm near my aunt and uncle's vacation home in the San Juan Islands near Seattle. My uncle looked dimly upon them and figured the whole setup was a tax dodge.
