B) I directly blame the NFL's "Don't Look At The QB, Ever, Lest You Injure His Delicate Persona" rules for this kind of thing

that's what i was thinking. i only saw a clip on george michael's sports machine last night and had the tv muted as i was listening to records and i thought maybe kiwanuka thought he had him in the grasp and didn't want to get flagged? because it looked like after the play he looked at the ref then did an "oh shit" double take and started chasing after young again. so i was thinking maybe he thought he heard a whistle or something because otherwise the only excuse he has is that he suffered a mini-stroke that temporarily stopped the flow of blood to his brain and resulted in weakness in him arms and legs.

by the way, pats turned the ball over 5 times AND STILL WON. that was great.

neither team deserved to win. fuck tom brady.

i think the chargers will win the super bowl and ade will win the fantasy league, both because of LDT

"weakness in him arms and legs"

yes, jay silverheels did teach me english. thanks for asking.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Monday, 27 November 2006 21:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I gotta say I got the distinct impression from that game that neither team was going out of its way to bother winning the game. It was kind of bizarre. I've seen a few games like that this season; the thing is they usually involved the Washington Redskins.

With Kiwanuka, I was wondering if he heard a whistle too (THANKS douchebags who bring whistles to stadiums--any reason why this isn't an ejectable offense yet in these stadiums?), OR if he thought Young had already pitched the ball and realized his error too late. EITHER WAY, wtf, thanks Kiwanuka for that one.

ooh, crappy moment of the afternoon was when seau rolled over and the fox cameras pulled in for a tight shot and you could see that he had a second elbow, this one in the middle of his forearm. that was nasty, half his forearm was perpendicular to his upper arm while the other half was parallel. thanks for coming back junior, enjoy your retirement!

Re Coughlin: you hadda know this was coming the minute he left the Jags. Players turning into refuseniks because OH NOES COUGHLIN IS A MEANIE is as inevitable as Terrelowensgate #5 or whatever. (I agree he deserves it.)

Do we even know if Stet's going to keep the sandbox around after ILX3 is up and running smoothly?

i only saw a clip on george michael's sports machine last night

How is that old corroded turd still alive?

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Monday, 27 November 2006 21:44 (seventeen years ago) link

actually i might check out of ilx altogether after the season is over.

deep space nine (deep space nine), Monday, 27 November 2006 21:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Exact same thing happened last week, Steelers vs Browns. Dude had Ben wrapped up then let go and then Ben ran around and threw the ball out of bounds. The announcer said if the defensive player didn't let go of Ben it would have been an automatic penalty and fine. (?!?!?!!?)

LK, Monday, 27 November 2006 21:45 (seventeen years ago) link

How is that old corroded turd still alive?

i don't know but seeing as i'm without cable i'm glad he is.
he also now co-hosts it with a rotating selection of sportsladies who run the gammut from trollopy to downright minxy.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Monday, 27 November 2006 21:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Someone needs to figure out a way how a defensive player can get killed by pulling up on a hit and then they will change the rules. I'll have to think about this for a while, but I will get back with everyone.

I don't think Coughlin is mean, he just is a dick who seems to have no idea wtf he is doing anymore. He doesn't seem to be exactly commanding respect from this group at all.

xpost haha re sportsladies

I will trade Brady for a good running back. I am also pretty confident at this point that I'll finish 2nd in the league on points but still outside the playoffs, wtf :(

I don't really mind where ilnfl is.

my favorite moment this week was when dude kept asking aikman, 'isn't tony romo the best qb dallas has had in a long time' and troy was sort of weirdly defensive, like 'he hasn't proved nothin' yet!'

Gravel Puzzleworth, Monday, 27 November 2006 23:54 (seventeen years ago) link

That NE/Bears game was downright fugly.

The NFL just needs to start putting freaking flags on QB's. I know that guy from the Giants let him go figuring that if he even knocked him down they would give the Titans 15 yards and a first down.

Who gets put on the bench or run out on a rail first, Vick or Eli? Vick has had a couple of more shots, so I figure he might be the first to go. I figure MV will get sent to the Oakland penal colony sometime next spring, probably traded for Randy Moss. Eli will probably get a hang nail and then the Hefty Lefty will somehow guide the Gmen to the playoffs. Lorenzen is destined to become some kind of freak football folk hero and next week against Dallas is as good a time as any to start.

You know that Peyton has all of those NYG games tivo'ed and probably sits and goes into a spazmotic fit watching his lil' brother play like such a freaking dork. I bet Peyton has already broken a couple of remote controls throwing the thing across the room when Eli does something stupid.

I just hope that the Bengals can keep the hot streak going and take out the Ravens next week. I freaking hate those guys. Cinci has gotten their offensive line straightened back out and the offense has been moving the ball around like a pinball machine. Cinci's defense had been the NFL version of Lola Marymount until they boggled the offensive juggernaut that is the Cleveland Browns.

Brees dropped 500+ two weeks ago against the Bengals. That guy has put up some numbers down in NOLA.

earlnash, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 00:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Roddy White: COACH KILLER. if any of you guys saw Jim Mora fall to his knees when RW dropped that redzone catch, you saw a guy who knew he was FUCKED. Mike Vick and his 10-year, $160+ million contract aren't going anywhere. And if you've seen every Falcons game this year, as I have, then you've seen at least one play in every game where MV throws a ball that hits a receiver in the hands, IN THE END ZONE, and it is dropped every time. The guy's not perfect but he's stepped his game up bigtime, and unlike Eli he doesn't have 7-ft Plaxico to bail him out on all his jump balls. If you were to replace Vick with a random journeyman NFL QB (Hi, Matt Schaub!), what would you see? A pedestrian offense with an OL that can’t pass block, receivers who can’t catch, and an aging RB, paired with an inconsistent defense playing a bland scheme and yet still vunerable to the deep pass.

If there's half a brain in the Giants' front office, they will throw every penny they have at Jeff Fisher this offseason.

this is just like my baseball league where i was behind all season until i traded for Pujols and ended up winning. i guess the lesson is that if you can't draft first, then just trade for the best player in the league and you will always win :(

Battlestar Gramattica was with the Colts for a week earlier this year. To say the least, Martin is a bit more subdued after hitting a kick than he was with the Bucs.

Even if Mora gets axed, he will probably get another shot at being a head coach down the line.

Ocho Cinco has something like 2000 yards in the past two games or something.

I think that crazy old geezer Bud that owns the Titans might try and keep Fisher around. Tennessee does seem to be improving on both sides of the ball. The money would be top shelf, but I wouldn't want to try and coach the Giants. I think for any coach in about any sport, being in NY is only kind on the pocketbook and it sucks for pretty much everything else.

The Eagles D has hit the bottom, they are big suxors. It is easy to laugh at Garcia being the Eagles QB, but other than that turnover for a TD after the game was lost, he didn't play that bad. Granted everyone that plays the Colts throws for 60% completions and runs for a buck twenty five on the ground (if not buck sixty).

I've got to wonder if Gibbs will be back next year. It hasn't worked and I figure he will take some front office gig "director of football operations" and someone else will be the head coach. Knowing their owner, freaking Bobby Bowden will probably be coaching there next year.

I will always like Jim Plunkett other than the fact he won me my only $100 bet in that he was the starting QB for both of those Tom Flores Raider championship clubs.

earlnash, Tuesday, 28 November 2006 01:37 (seventeen years ago) link

the Tennessee defense is mystifying to me. i was actually wanting to start a thread about this over the weekend but, well, you know. they have a LOT of top shelf defensive talent at different key positions - bulluck, pacman (seriously), haynesworth, chris hope, vanden bosch are all awesome players, but the d is spotty as hell. it got me to thinking what it is that seperates good defenses from bad ones, because while there sure are a lot of BAD starters on the Tennessee d, it seems like even on the best defenses in the league there are a few scrubs and easily replacable types. maybe that kind of thinking is what ended up fucking over Washington - like when you play Madden and all you need is a team with a bunch of guys with 95 ratings and you're golden. it don't work like that irl. maybe it also has something to do with my perception of who the good players are and what contributions are needed by different dudes. Denver has a pretty solid d (though way overrated recently imo) but they have guys who are basically just solid dudes at a lot of key positions - is that the difference? like, having SOLID guys as your role players instead of complete scrubs? The d-line, whathisface who isn't champ bailey, they can make plays but they're not that great or anything either. john lynch is a liability in coverage, tho they have him up at the line of scrimmage enough to kind of negate that.
