hhaha true, that song is weird, but the beat is great. i think it's just that i forgot about the album for a while, and then put it in the car a few weeks ago and realized that there's not a single wack song on it, which is hard to say about even some much better rap albums.

Al (Alex In Baltimore), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

if only i knew amon's real name...i would have asked them to look into buying his nas-with-burger picture like they bought sean carruther's nikolai-volkoff-with-vacuum cleaner.

i have "beef" w/ CP

amon (amon), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 18:42 (seventeen years ago) link

haha what, do you work for the Talking Head? or the National Great Blacks In Wax Museum?

Al (Alex In Baltimore), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 18:44 (seventeen years ago) link

nah, i just refuse to work for joe maccrappyartdirectorwithashittycolumn

amon (amon), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 18:57 (seventeen years ago) link

it was awhile ago so more like a dustdevil of beef at this point

amon (amon), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 19:28 (seventeen years ago) link

so, small enough to inhale, I guess. his column's definitely a bit overly wacky but Funny Paper = G.O.A.T.

Al (Alex In Baltimore), Wednesday, 3 January 2007 19:36 (seventeen years ago) link

he's a good graphic designer and movie reviewer but freelancing for him is a waste of time. i hope they treat/pay their writers better.

now i'm imagining nas scraping ground beef into little lines and snorting them

Rhymefest WTF?

The Reverend (Rodney J. Greene), Thursday, 15 February 2007 04:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Is there anything new that's good in hip-hop right now? I'm not being rhetorical, but it's been a while since I've heard anything.

Shadowcat (A-Ron Hubbard), Thursday, 15 February 2007 05:21 (seventeen years ago) link

TVT's Hyphy Hitz comp is really good. A few odd singles I've been into: UGK "The Game Belongs to Me"; Trick Daddy "Tuck Ya Ice"; Mike Jones "Mr. Jones"; Wes Fif "Haters Everywhere".

The Reverend shines like a lighthouse (Rodney J. Greene), Thursday, 15 February 2007 05:36 (seventeen years ago) link

That UGK song is really great.

31g (31g), Thursday, 15 February 2007 06:29 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah it seems like after the glut of 4th quarter releases, there's barely been a single major label or high profile rap release in the first couple months of 2007. mostly people dropping singles and mixtapes to gear up for albums in March or later. i'm kind of using the lull to dig back into older shit. this thread was way better than the rolling snap thread on the real ILM though.

Al (Alex In Baltimore), Thursday, 15 February 2007 15:05 (seventeen years ago) link

no way - rabin-bashing >>>>>>>> perpetua-bashing

and what (ooo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 15:26 (seventeen years ago) link

i had a dream about a new mike jones video featuring kanye in an mf doom-style mask. wtf??

violent j (sandboxhulkington), Thursday, 15 February 2007 15:33 (seventeen years ago) link

it started out sampling some children's song but then went into the lil jon beat from the heineken commercial.

violent j (sandboxhulkington), Thursday, 15 February 2007 15:33 (seventeen years ago) link

actually it only covered half of kanye's face, so i guess it was more like mfantom of the opera.

violent j (sandboxhulkington), Thursday, 15 February 2007 15:35 (seventeen years ago) link

i also missed amon's "beef" upthread

violent j (sandboxhulkington), Thursday, 15 February 2007 15:39 (seventeen years ago) link

kanye rapping about women is really annoying. see: throw some d's remix

One of These Things (Is Not Like The Others)
Words and Music by Joe Raposo and Jon Stone

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

and what (ooo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 16:54 (seventeen years ago) link

As do Nas & Kanye. As much as I hate to say it, KRS sounds like an asshat.

The Reverend shines like a lighthouse (Rodney J. Greene), Thursday, 15 February 2007 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

KRS-One hasn't been on a hit single this decade. Easy.

rappist (HGULTRUISLIM), Sunday, 18 February 2007 09:02 (seventeen years ago) link

The rapping is a lot moving to me. Many hit the songs from Rakim have excited it and the dance has rendered me. I cannot imagine living without to play these impressive tracks of dry blow of the same stimulant in cold mine jeep.

J-Kwon has rendered it a lot tipsy with its cold song. Deej from ILX says to me approximately a lot, better tracks from the dirty south. Black people will play this music and this is the music that I will always play in order.

pablo (Pablo), Sunday, 18 February 2007 10:30 (seventeen years ago) link

why is everyone so crazy about this plodding Juelz/Blaze bullshit?

Al (Alex In Baltimore), Sunday, 18 February 2007 14:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I'd kill to have Juelz NOT on it with his "SO GLORIOUS...(uh)...VICTORIOUS" bullshit, but I'll roll with Just Blaze as long he's on the bombastic triumphalism thing.

high voicemail inspired memory/reading/freestyle blend how tech facility wrx when your flows are stacked or however youd put it, speed timeshifting with feeling yourself's feelings, you cld almost take it as poetry or spoken word without any of the corny baggage. wayne's on point never out of his element on fire & i spoze i understand why he half-feels jim jones & how he can pull that off w his resigned appreciation of whatever's clever, working w fat joe crack & not giving a fuck about haters-- tho i don't rilly know much abt the region it seems like more thoughtful motherfuckers like bg aren't so upset with him anymore even tho he got out of the hood w/baby before it got too hard (i remember that 2003 bg album with that heroin shootem up song and that "fuck you"-sample song, bg knowing already he's out of the real jam)(it seems like wayne wasn't as exposed to the harshness of those that akshully fell out with CM, eg lil turk/even juve, the unsure groundwork of his career back then despite his real maturity & already developed resigned sense of girl-loving social irony that he's famous for (then utp partytime, now rodeo, getting more angst when he was on the slim track slow motion)& then the masses of folkz i don't really know abt who are probably broke (even tho i don't really know about any of that history. like i've never heard kilo-g or soulja rags, that dude from chicago only in 03 and, embarrassingly in 2004 i almost bought a pair of birdmans *:^/)
