ha does ilx evar do attacks - we should have like a commando team where we use our insulting skills against other boards.

Did you see the "It was a predator in the alien ship" thread?

No worky on my cell phone, unfortunately. Don't know if this has been mentioned on this thread (can't read more than about 35 replies, and certainly not when people post pictures, internal memory too small), but I can register (can't select my time zone because there are like eight hundred of them and the page stops at the tenth Argentina one), but when I then try to log in it first warns that my password is being sent to another server and then "invalid web address" and (retry) "page not found". Will try again tomorrow at work (only have internet on my phone at home at the moment, just moved, won't have cable until the end of the month). Other than that, everything looks fine!

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 21:50 (seventeen years ago) link

But using stylesheets lets us have a preference for how you want ILX to look, so people who want old-school work-safe can have that, and someone who wants prettier versions or a version tailored for blackberries/phones can have them too.

OMG does that mean I get to use AVATARS NOWWWW??

Donkey Kong New York (Lee), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 21:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Using stylesheets is all well and good, but why not just graft css class names onto the old layout and then let people go wild with sheets

Del Monte Young (ex machina), Wednesday, 21 February 2007 21:54 (seventeen years ago) link

also can't load the page, and I'm not about to go messing with firewall settings at a freelance job's computer.

Why not have a style sheet that looks just like old ilx? Or the latest rage: style sheet option buttons so the user can change his own personal experience?

I'd still like someone to confirm that the reason why a work-in-progress was unveiled to the public was so that it could be test-driven. Because as it stands, I don't like the fact that half of ILX is on Nu-ILX and the other half is still on the Sandbox. I wish it had been more like, "Hey guys, test this out for a day or two, let us know what works and what doesn't, then we'll figure out how to fix it so that everyone's happy, and then later we'll unveil the whole thing as Shiny Nu-ILX."

Because Jon left us no choice? He unilaterally started fucking with the old, busted code (to tell us it was old and busted, apparently). We had to take it down, because it seriously shouldn't be up if people are going to hack at it, it's way too vulnerable and I'm not having our sole server get pwnd because of some 1990s-era PHP vulnerability.

At that point, there were two options: a pile of pointless work on the old code to secure it, or a hasty slap on the new code's ass, which needed stress-testing anyway. (Or leaving ILX down for months again, which I really didn't want to do.)

When we say it's "in progress", that's a general it-will-be-improved note, not a "we're actively still adding features right now, tonight". We need to first make sure the hugely-complicated cache works properly (it seems to be) and then think about where to take it next.

I don't like the fact that half of ILX is here either. This was never meant to be a permanent site, and it won't be. I'd be taking it down soon anyway, apart from the very real problem of people who plain can't get to the new site.
