Companies should never pay for employee parking, it discourages use of public transportation (this is not to say that your company is not being dickish).

Is the parking garage under separate management?

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Friday, 29 December 2006 16:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Not that I know of, and would doubt it knowing how this place operates. My opinion is that if you are going to offer an employee parking lot or garage, forcing employees to pay for it is asinine. Utilizing the space in a better fashion and not having a lot makes sense to me as a method of encouraging public transit use, as is giving transit benefits. But why offer it and then fleece over your own employees, which you pay like shit under the questionable "we're a non-profit" lie that you keep telling people??? Ugh this place.

I bet Michael Palinko, director of quality, influenced that policy.

from the Going Out Gurus Nightlife Agenda...

At 12:01 a.m. on January 2, 2007, it becomes illegal to smoke inside any bar, club or restaurant in Washington. The employees of the Black Cat have been vocal opponents of the smoking ban from the start -- when owner Dante Ferrando asked them at a staff meeting earlier this year if they'd like to ban cigarettes before the government forced them to, Ferrando says, they voted 30-1 to let the smoke stay. With the ban looming, the Cat is hosting one last "Smoke Night" in the club's Red Room, where everyone's invited to come in, puff away and commiserate before all the ashtrays disappear for the last time.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Friday, 29 December 2006 16:26 (seventeen years ago) link

no one here seems to understand any kind of "petty cash fund" or anything like that. I think the conclusion we came to was that we were going to corner Ian and force him to personally reimburse the dude, since it was sooooooooooooooooooooo important that he came in today (not that Ian is here or anything, I mean it's not THAT kind of important right).

my work doesn't pay for parking even though the office is in glover park ie NO METRO ANYWHERE AROUND. it costs like $160/month to park in the garage. luckily I have found a street nearby where the zone signs were taken down for construction.

this year I didn't get much culture at all, which is pretty sad.. but I liked the Sugimoto show a lot

Working on Ford.

I was at the National Portrait Gallery yesterday and the text with Ford portrait in the presidential section was already updated to reflect his date of death! They are on the ball.

2007!

- Ringing in the new year in Montgomery County
- The goddamn rain
- a 3 HOUR WAIT for a cab after we called

+ Freaking awesome wines. Perrier Jouet rose champagne, Bollinger rose, and a 1982 magnum of Dom Perignon to start? Yes! A bottle of 1990 Chateua D'Yquem for dessert? Yes! Many wonderful wines in between? Yes! Drinking more $ worth of wine between 9pm and 3am than I will drink for the rest of the year? Yes.

It was OK. No real ban in effect, we scofflaws smoked well into the wee hours.

Things I will miss most about smoke in bars and clubs:

1. It covered up the smell of stale beer
2. Laser light shows will be way less awesome

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Tuesday, 2 January 2007 13:58 (seventeen years ago) link

We missed the convoy this morning to get coffee. There was a K9 unit barking like it was going out of style down at 10th & PAAVE though, don't have a clue what that was about.

So based on the events of the last couple of weeks, or the lack thereof, I believe the most effective way for a federal agency to safeguard its information technology assets is to keep the civil servants the hell away from them.
