I regret missing melt-banana in providence b/c I didn't know anyone who wanted to go, in fact, I didn't know anyone there who was into the kind of music I liked (noize dudes were away at college I believe) so I missed all sorts of great shows

4) not buying the full length Sexual Harrasment record for 35$ although i knew i'd never see it again.

there always seems to be so much dead time at any given show before & between bands that going w/o someone to talk to is often dullsville

HELL YEAH, unless you, like, try to chat up strangers (which I tried ONE TIME) (albeit an XY rep) (awkward!), or you just find ways to amuse yrself watching the band set up / other people.

David RER (Frank Fiore), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 22:40 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, that's sort of my problem with flying solo. i'm a real chatty cathy, and if i don't have buds to talk to i'll get REAL drunk real fast and probably smoke a shit-ton of cigs. though, right about the time i left chicago it had gotten to the point that i'd probably run into familiar faces at shows even if i was alone.

OH WELL. maybe next year.

5) not studying more for these finals

I don't think I'm ever actually alone when I go to shows, Lexington's music scene is so incestuous there is a 33.3333% chance that a friend and/or former bandmate of mine is at the show/in the band/working at the club.

yeah honestly mtl is kinda like that too, i usually take the chance, but sometimes yknow

yeah i've definitely been in b-more long enough now that when i go out to a show alone i invariably run into people i know, but unfortunately it's more enervating small talk than a friendly how-do.

SECOND TIER CITIES... LOL

urghonomic (gcannon), Wednesday, 13 December 2006 22:55 (seventeen years ago) link

SOME OF US JUST CANNOT TAKE YOUR FIRST-TIER WAYS FOR MORE THAN FEW DAYS.

WE ALSO HAVE BETTER DINERS.

SO FUCK YOU.

first-teir ways = interacting with people you're pretty much guaranteed to never have seen before?

grbchv! (gbx), Thursday, 14 December 2006 06:44 (seventeen years ago) link

sometimes going to a diner means never having to say you're sorry, and you just can't pull that off in the minors

grbchv! (gbx), Thursday, 14 December 2006 06:45 (seventeen years ago) link

lol shows

amon (amon), Thursday, 14 December 2006 06:51 (seventeen years ago) link

40 WATTS OR LESS, PLZ

5) Neglecting the SICK stash of Silver Age books my hometown comic store pulled in back when I was a wee lad of 12-13 (1987-98), because I really needed every single issue of Manhunter & Star Brand.

whoa you aged slowly

6) going to bed at 1:30 am for the 8th night in a row instead of packing it in at 10 so i could get more than four hours sleep for a change.

gah! i met the dude that bought this record last night. he played it at a club and i asked him about it and apparently it was the exact same record and he talked the dude down to $15 because there was a slight warp in it.
