Battleshits and NPH were the best parts!

"I was trippin' balls"

I will enjoy this no matter what. The first one was such a surprise, I still can't remember why I first watched it oddly enough. No, drugs were not involved!

I liked "battleshits." There were some jokes I could have done without, but that's sort of part of the bargain with comedies like these.

Shadowcat (A-Ron Hubbard), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 16:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I had a kind of interesting discussion with some kind of lamewads last night re: the difference between "stoner comedy" as a comedy for stoners vs a "stoner comedy" as a comedy in which the main characters are stoners, it started promising, but quickly devolved into a frustrating younger guy with two first names basically trying to tell us why Bogus Journey wasn't funny.

nklshs (nklshs), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

the other half is puerile filler like "Battleshits"

LIST EVIDENCE PLZ

jw (ex machina), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 17:12 (seventeen years ago) link

hah, like I remember specifics from seeing the movie once!

also the New Jersey driving geography in it is science fiction.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 17:16 (seventeen years ago) link

well yeah, that's the thing. W/ H&K, the characters are actual stoners, but there's _so_ much shit going on at multiple levels in the flick that it can't be resigned to some bin as "simplistic stoner comedy"

xp

NPH was the best part!

also the New Jersey driving geography in it is science fiction.

Especially because there's a White Castle in Jersey City!

huge hanggliding cliffs in burlington county, too.

H & K fans don't acknowledge that half of it is smart & funny, and the other half is puerile filler like "Battleshits" and Neil Patrick Harris (which will really date the film in ten years when no one but Gen Y nostalgists remember who he was).

meloni's character in it was painfully lame. the first half hour is pretty good, then it gets bogged down in weird, retarded shit - that, crucially, isn't funny.

GAWD PVNCH (yournullfame), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 17:40 (seventeen years ago) link

and there IS white castle in new brunswick! its gross!

max (maxreax), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 22:29 (seventeen years ago) link

haha I just bought H&K on DVD - will report back, but I remember finding the battleshits thing funny (if it was too fat ugly guys it wouldn't be funny at all, but the fact that its two "perfect" girls makes the gag)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 22:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Probably the 3 funniest parts of the fillum (for me):

1. Anthony Anderson's scene ("c'mon Pookie let's burn this motherfucker down!")

2. Jamie Kennedy's scene* ("what, is this your SPECIAL BUSH? are you KING OF FOREST?")

3. the life-with-bag-of-weed montage

All of which were kind of random throwaway scenes (except AA's White Castle lament)

*note: I don't generally find Jamie Kennedy entertaining AT ALL

nklshs (nklshs), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 22:33 (seventeen years ago) link

NPH is currently on a hit sitcom, though, so kids of today will remember him in a different context.

mh (mike h.), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 22:34 (seventeen years ago) link

the life-w-bag o weed montage is the funniest thing in the movie

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 22:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Morbs is OTM though, this movie is kind of stocked with lots of puerile filler, but, shit, it's puerile filler that makes movies like Airplane entertaining and the lack thereof that makes movies like Chasing Amy barely comedies at all.

nklshs (nklshs), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 22:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Now I'm imagining a deleted scene in Chasing Amy where everyone else in the movie - extras and all - take turns smacking the shit out of Joey Lauren Adams, which would pretty much be the best scene in the movie.

nklshs (nklshs), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 22:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah there is tons of puerile filler in it, but I guess I don't have the same opinion as Morbs on exactly where it is. The disgusted looks on H&K's faces when they see those girls in the hall after the battleshits scene is one of the best moments in the movie.

the characters are actual stoners

They aren't stereotypical movie stoners though--I mean Harold is a fucking investment banker. That's one of the things I enjoyed about it, because I know people IRL who really love weed but are also tremendous overachievers.

"puerile filler"

Yeah, that scene was weird, there was such a buildup that resulted in nothing. I guess the film-makers wanted to fuck around with movie cliches, but the result wasn't really funny at all.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 15 February 2007 05:38 (seventeen years ago) link

That's worst of all.

Don't they use "puerile filler" at Taco Bell?
