My coworker missed his bus this morning, offered to work from home (keep in mind that he is on the road most of the time, so he is specifically set up to work remotely 80% of the time and it wouldn't be unusual), was told he HAD to come in by our boss (despite fact that we have received very few inquiries or responses this week due to holiday and we're only working a half day today), so he drove in. Goes and parks in our parking garage (ie the private one in our building, that our company owns, that only company employees can park in) AND THEY CHARGED HIM $10 FOR THE PRIVLEDGE. WTF?

For comparison's sake, there are multiple public garages surrounding our building, all of which have $5 "early bird specials" that cover parking from like anytime before 8:30 until 5 or 6pm, so he's paying double price to park IN HIS OWN COMPANY'S LOT. Who has ever heard of this?

Is the parking garage under separate management?

At 12:01 a.m. on January 2, 2007, it becomes illegal to smoke inside any bar, club or restaurant in Washington. The employees of the Black Cat have been vocal opponents of the smoking ban from the start -- when owner Dante Ferrando asked them at a staff meeting earlier this year if they'd like to ban cigarettes before the government forced them to, Ferrando says, they voted 30-1 to let the smoke stay. With the ban looming, the Cat is hosting one last "Smoke Night" in the club's Red Room, where everyone's invited to come in, puff away and commiserate before all the ashtrays disappear for the last time.

this year I didn't get much culture at all, which is pretty sad.. but I liked the Sugimoto show a lot

i'm right there with you sister. plus, as soon as the person from whom i am covering gets back i'm putting in leave for the rest of the day and making it a 4 1/2 day weekend.

I was at the National Portrait Gallery yesterday and the text with Ford portrait in the presidential section was already updated to reflect his date of death! They are on the ball.

But I don't want to be *that* houseguest. I suppose I could just login as myself . . .

Many wonderful wines in between? Yes! Drinking more $ worth of wine between 9pm and 3am than I will drink for the rest of the year? Yes.
