Polar Express - made me want to barf, seriously worst movie I've ever seen, destroyed the last bit of love I had for Tom Hanks, worse CGI than Lawnmower Man

drunk Friendster massage (nklshs), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Rules of the Game - Odd that this ranks so highly on best-of-all-time lists. First half seems like pedestrian set-up for fantastic second half. Initial reaction was that Grand Illusion is the better movie but I might neeed to see this again.

Nu-Edward III (edward iii), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Also halfway through Ugetsu with Bird People in China in the hopper.

Nu-Edward III (edward iii), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh shit, can't believe I forgot this - Seven Samurai!!!!, which I had somehow never seen. A total fucking treat. Watched with my son, dad, and grandpa, who provided occasional alternate translations to the subtitles.

drunk Friendster massage (nklshs), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Now Ugetsu I wouldn't watch in pieces.

jhoshea (jhoshea), Monday, 4 December 2006 18:28 (seventeen years ago) link

thank you for smoking is good but art school confidential is a crime against humanity

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Monday, 4 December 2006 18:28 (seventeen years ago) link

just watch the trailer a couple times and pretend the rest is ok (nb have not seen it)

Kenneth Branagh (gcannon), Monday, 4 December 2006 18:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Now Ugetsu I wouldn't watch in pieces.

For some reason I thought it was an anthology like Kwaidan.

Nu-Edward III (edward iii), Monday, 4 December 2006 19:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Had an hour to kill and was like, "Let's get in a bit of Ugetsu, then."

Nu-Edward III (edward iii), Monday, 4 December 2006 19:10 (seventeen years ago) link

thank you for smoking is total trash. it's a nothing movie. avoid.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Monday, 4 December 2006 20:34 (seventeen years ago) link

aaron eckhart was funnier in 'the black dahlia' than in this.

deep space nine (deep space nine), Monday, 4 December 2006 20:36 (seventeen years ago) link

gear did you like the black dahlia?

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Monday, 4 December 2006 20:50 (seventeen years ago) link

thank you for smoking is the best movie i have ever seen. it is completely convincing, much like school of rock.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Monday, 4 December 2006 20:57 (seventeen years ago) link

you know how i feel, slocki! ; (

deep space nine (deep space nine), Monday, 4 December 2006 21:11 (seventeen years ago) link

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Monday, 4 December 2006 21:29 (seventeen years ago) link

deep space nine (deep space nine), Monday, 4 December 2006 21:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Tender is the Night (half-watched while dozing, seemed crap)
Blow Out (now my fave BDP)
3 Women (Shelly DuV's character scares the shit out me)

Thank You For Smoking was completely forgettable. Watch if it comes on cable, avoid otherwise.

blood diamond

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 04:20 (seventeen years ago) link

i suddenly have no tolerance for mediocre-verging-on-bad movies (prob b/c realities of workload have set in, plus desire to actually do the work, whoa), so i'll put thank you for smoking on the back burner. and i've got the whole first season of deadwood sitting here anyway.

so blood diamond was good?

impermanent rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 04:27 (seventeen years ago) link

just watched Brick.

the line about the parent/teacher conferences was pretty good.

grbchv! (gbx), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 06:04 (seventeen years ago) link

v (sleep), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 18:19 (seventeen years ago) link

well, get an advance ticket and steel yerself.

Viva l'Italia (Rossellini goes big budget with some amazingly epic battle scenes, punctuated by mostly dull interiors with Garibaldi and his fellow patriots)

Bill Weber (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 18:24 (seventeen years ago) link

anticipate!

Summer of Sam
I noticed the when the gudio thug squad takes down some punk for liking Boston, he's played by John Savage, who plays a similar function in Do The Right Thing. Love a running gag, me.

sexyDancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

i thot kontroll was disappointing. i'd still call it good tho.

Kenneth Branagh (gcannon), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 17:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I lolled at the disclaimer at the beginning, that this is not a true account of the Budapest subway and plz to be recognizing the difference between fact and fiction

dmr (dmr), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 17:36 (seventeen years ago) link

i wanna see that kontroll movie

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 17:45 (seventeen years ago) link

if they do a porno take on it they should call it pussy kontroll

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 17:51 (seventeen years ago) link

at first I was afraid it was gonna be as bad as Night Watch but it got better

dmr (dmr), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 18:19 (seventeen years ago) link

i had to think back if there was anything supernatural in kontroll. no, right?

i think i was turned off by the "young genius with unexplained psychological aversion to success and daylight" meme + girl falling for same which seemed too 90s indie ethan hawke soft-misogyny bullshitty to me

Kenneth Branagh (gcannon), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 18:34 (seventeen years ago) link
