Has the Desmond Hume - John Locke -philosopher point been made?

somebody mentioned it at some point I'm sure

there was also a Burke last week

not sure it means much beyond "zomg, questions of free will and causation"

dmr (dmr), Thursday, 15 February 2007 21:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Drunk Hurley's "DUDE!" was his best utterance of the word since ever.

totally! possibly best uttered word of the past several episodes

so there are two kinds of lost fans then. stoners who talk philosophy when they are stoned and stoners who just stare blankly at the t.v. when they are stoned?

hand raised for former. totally into desmond's non-linear time access, plus some multi-dimensional stuff too

re: claire - that really was the first time in a long time she's looked cute and not been whiney

also, desmond, hottt

impermanent rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 15 February 2007 22:00 (seventeen years ago) link

(Fionula Flanagen) isn't on next week's guest star roster (but Alex, Karl, and Tom are).

nicka, you are the wind beneath my wings.

Rick Gibralter (grady), Thursday, 15 February 2007 22:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I love how Dezzy's been out of the hatch for, what, 2 weeks?, and he's already the tannest one of them all.

young deezy

dmr (dmr), Thursday, 15 February 2007 22:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I didn't find this episode that great. Then again lately all the shows have kind of disppointed me :(. Anyway, did anyone notice the dharma logo on dead guy's red shoes? Or was I just hallucinating? I'm almost certain it was there, but what the fuck is it doing there?

jibe (jibe), Thursday, 15 February 2007 22:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh I didn't see that! I was so stoked for having called yet another Wizard of Oz ref (right before he got crushed) I must've missed it.

nklshs (nklshs), Thursday, 15 February 2007 22:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I could put a screengrab up if I knew how. I've been looking at the guy's shoes for a minute or so and I still can't make up my mind as to whether there is a dharma logo or not :( Also, I'm quite sure that L O S T is the only tv show where I've rewinded and played the show in slow motion so to as to see a small detail and I feel like an idjut for doing so

jibe (jibe), Thursday, 15 February 2007 22:58 (seventeen years ago) link

big round of applause to the writers for such an accurate portrayal of London in an American Tv show FINALLY...

red phone box check
policeman in classic 'tit' helmet check
classic cars parked on every street check
pub landlord in shirt and tie check
combo of distant london landmarks suddenly close together (houses of pariament and er, greenwich foot tunnel?) check
angry man with CRICKET bat check

and yeah buskers always attract a crowd of 20 people esp. when it's 'wonderwall'. and the instant rain thing was mega lame.

fuckng loved it tho (altho it really wasn't that revelatory)

bring on charlie death obv. (except he won't die and this will persuade des to restore faith in the future, linda bellingham style)

resumo impetus (blueski), Friday, 16 February 2007 01:14 (seventeen years ago) link

filmed in downtown Honolulu, too! (with obvious bluescreen assistance)

Rick Gibralter (grady), Friday, 16 February 2007 01:16 (seventeen years ago) link

they just do it to wind us up on purpose.

nice of them to get Dave Gahan in for the backdrop-photo scene tho

pretty confused about what is meant to really have happened to him during his flashback vs what he imagined. surely that old woman can't have been real.

resumo impetus (blueski), Friday, 16 February 2007 01:18 (seventeen years ago) link

also, probably not significant, but the backdrop for the Dez/Penny photo is HNL.

Rick Gibralter (grady), Friday, 16 February 2007 01:19 (seventeen years ago) link

i just realized blueski was being sarcastic : (

Rick Gibralter (grady), Friday, 16 February 2007 01:20 (seventeen years ago) link

I love how Alan Fucking Dale makes such a big deal about the whisky, but then it turns out you can go drink it in in any old random pub.

...or beach.

Rick Gibralter (grady), Friday, 16 February 2007 01:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Hah but that's OBV the point!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Friday, 16 February 2007 01:42 (seventeen years ago) link

OH ROFFLES

METAL ROBOTIC HEAD FACE (scarymonster), Friday, 16 February 2007 01:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Wow... this was teh shit! Desmond is a winner! Best episode since whatever episode from season 1, no doubt. Stepping off the linear timeline was the best thing they could do. Truly warped, truly wonderful.

Le Bateau Ivre (gerard), Friday, 16 February 2007 02:23 (seventeen years ago) link

I also thought it was a great episode. I really like Charlie and I totally expect that something's going to stand in the way of his death, leading to some sort of breakthrough for Desmond.

(That was brilliant about "Wonderwall," Nick.)

sundarsubramanian (SundarS), Friday, 16 February 2007 03:05 (seventeen years ago) link

does anyone else do a double take when they see posters for this film:

Rick Gibralter (grady), Friday, 16 February 2007 03:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I like how Claire took our advice and cut her bangs herself on the island.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 16 February 2007 06:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Dharma shark tried to bite her face off when she was face-down underwater, but was still weak from being shot by Sawyer in S2, so missed by an inch or so, and merely chomped her a new fringe. Everything happens for a reason!

teh_kit (g-kit), Friday, 16 February 2007 08:54 (seventeen years ago) link

My mind is still totally blown by this ep.
I think the writers got tired of people saying "sto answering questions with more questions!" and decided to instead answer some questions with a huge WTF (which, I admit, is actually a question, but fuck it).

teh_kit (g-kit), Friday, 16 February 2007 08:55 (seventeen years ago) link

why did they have to make up 'Graybridge' football (footage looked like a Spanish game) team when it's OK for them to talk about the Red Sox? DELIBERATE WIND-UP

resumo impetus (blueski), Friday, 16 February 2007 10:31 (seventeen years ago) link

also "lobsters on the pier" lol

they should've had Desmond tip the barman 10%

shame we couldn't see Eko in London

GAWD PVNCH (yournullfame), Friday, 16 February 2007 10:54 (seventeen years ago) link

I was surprised that Judi Dench Jr. said that pushing the button was Desmond's big accomplishment in life, when turning the key seems to me equal or more important.

the people's prince (jergins), Friday, 16 February 2007 17:41 (seventeen years ago) link

lol @ "judi dench jr."

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 16 February 2007 17:42 (seventeen years ago) link

anybody know why 'next week on lost' is never included in the torrents?

the people's prince (jergins), Friday, 16 February 2007 17:43 (seventeen years ago) link

It is for the good of us torrenting folx. Jokes apart, I think you can get them in some torrents, dunno which oens

You can always find the "next week on LOST" bits on youtube.

rly not looking like a dharma logo on the red trainers there. sad to say i went back and checked. also the flash frames right after the key turn were unenlightening too.

BAH.

BounceBounceBounce R TINY KITN (bounce), Friday, 16 February 2007 21:58 (seventeen years ago) link

It isn't just, like, a Converse logo, is it?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 16 February 2007 22:02 (seventeen years ago) link

http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com/ is good if yr into that sort of thing

BounceBounceBounceBounceBounceBounceBounce (bounce), Friday, 16 February 2007 22:05 (seventeen years ago) link

I have to admit that Charlie is annoying when he get's all overprotective about Claire and the baby.

He's an utter dick! An addict deliberately getting an alcoholic drunk? I think he's a great character.

I also went back and checked the logo on the runners. Not Dharma.

Lolz@ fake London, with its lobsters on the pier, and its posters for the Scots Brigade calling all and sundry to fight with HONOR (and American guns).

STILL NOT ENOUGH SAYID, FUCKOS!

Maybe have been drinking.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 16 February 2007 23:00 (seventeen years ago) link

London has no lobsters?

yeah, really, london really doesn't have lobsters? me and beth could send you some.

scott seward (121212), Saturday, 17 February 2007 00:39 (seventeen years ago) link

we have lobsters
and the Thames has a few piers
but you can't buy LOBSTERS ON THE PIER

resumo impetus (blueski), Saturday, 17 February 2007 00:49 (seventeen years ago) link

That's too bad.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 17 February 2007 01:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I watched it when I was quite drunk and got pretty emotional about the whole thing. Especially when Penny was trying to convince him he was worth something. Really, really great episode.

Couple of stupid cock-ups on the British front, though. Wouldn't Desmond actor have said "Eerr... we wouldn't have posters like that and we certainly wouldn't spell 'Honour' that way" to the props people?? Oh well.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 17 February 2007 01:48 (seventeen years ago) link

i sort of thought that the over-the-topness of desmond's flashback scenes were purposful, indicative of a dream or an in his head experience, rather than a literal, in his body experience.

didn't the whole thing have a dreamy, unreal feel to it?

lxy (lxy), Saturday, 17 February 2007 03:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, if it was real no one would have given Charlie money for singing Wonderwall.

The Many Faces of Gordon Jump (Leon), Saturday, 17 February 2007 03:15 (seventeen years ago) link

the extras in the busking scene were awful..."bopping"

this episode was quite ridiculous but good I guess, tho the scene with the old woman was a little too crazy maybe. also why did getting hit with the bat send him back to the island?
