And missing items of clothing.

RIP Kevin's underwear

Some things I learned today:

1) LOTS OF PEOPLE enjoy nacho cheese slopped over their red hot cheetos. I saw > 3 students enjoying this treat at breaktime today.

2) Students enjoy hiring STRIPPERS for their parties, or so I was told in the paragraph I edited for one student named N0rma.

3) My students do not respect me, or so I was told after I was (basically) bullied into letting class out early by a tiny little gangbanger-lookin' dude.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANYO. Your birthday is my half birthday which means you are [x] years and 6 months younger than I am.

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Friday, 23 February 2007 20:58 (seventeen years ago) link

4) One more thing: TJ's frozen soba noodles are totally vile when prepared according to directions, but super yum when you add chili-sesame oil and some soy sauce.

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Friday, 23 February 2007 20:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Am I the onliest one here?

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Friday, 23 February 2007 21:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Nope. For some reason I am still unable to log into the new site, despite the fact I could earlier. I'm not especially inclined to try and figure out why right now.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Friday, 23 February 2007 21:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm still checking here, Amanda! But I think the action has mostly gone to nude-ILX.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 23 February 2007 21:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Armanda, you've got to stand up to that kid. Take away his nacho cheetos and strippers.

JordanC (JordanC), Friday, 23 February 2007 21:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I've seen that a couple times. I think I saw it once at an el-stop convenience store, where they had a big squirtable container of nacho cheese, and all the kids who bought red-hot Cheetos could step up and squirt it on.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 February 2007 21:07 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm positive I've heard Kevin talk about that before, too. It was one of those moments so disgustingly awesome I was unsure if it was real or not. It's right up there with the time I saw that woman eating ranch dressing out of the bottle down at the Jackson Blue Line stop.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Friday, 23 February 2007 21:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay, now I think maybe Kevin reported it and somehow it turned into a memory of my own.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 23 February 2007 21:10 (seventeen years ago) link

john, we went to http://www.tizimelloul.com/

The menu is not quite right on the website. It says the skate is "crabcake" but it's not. It's skate.

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Friday, 23 February 2007 22:43 (seventeen years ago) link

I had skate for the first time recently, it was pretty damn good. Surprisingly rich (maybe they just used a ton of butter though).

Jesse, no one is here anymore.

JordanC (JordanC), Friday, 23 February 2007 22:57 (seventeen years ago) link

oh?

Little kernel of salty honey (crunkleJ), Friday, 23 February 2007 23:16 (seventeen years ago) link

grr. i cannot access nu-ilx at all from home, router or no, pc or mac. i have asked comcast about this, and they're looking into it. meanwhile, stet says it's an issue with the firewall on the host itself, and his hosting company is also looking into it. So luck is wished all around.

there does seems to be a special problem with Vista's over-security, though.

chicago kevin says it was nice knowing you all (chicago kevin), Sunday, 25 February 2007 23:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Suddenly I can't log into nude-ILX. That merits several unhappy faces.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 26 February 2007 05:21 (seventeen years ago) link

i couldn't now i can, and at work tomorrow i probably won't be able to.

chicago kevin says it was nice knowing you all (chicago kevin), Monday, 26 February 2007 08:13 (seventeen years ago) link

worst weekend in a long time:

1) D sick
2) only 1/3 of my class showed up for the library field trip
3) computer crashed, we had to restore settings and wipe hard drive, lost a bunch of shit including vacation photos from UK ;_; Don't tell me anything about backing up my files because I AM AWARE TAHT WE SHOULD HVE DONE THAT.
4) gas leak this morning, People's Gas are on their way.

;_;x100

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Monday, 26 February 2007 13:39 (seventeen years ago) link

although, considering, things could always be worse. i'm very thankful that we didn't blow up. yet.

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Monday, 26 February 2007 13:41 (seventeen years ago) link

[knocking frantically on wood]

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Monday, 26 February 2007 13:41 (seventeen years ago) link

i also don't want to sylvia plath my dogs while i go to work today.

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Monday, 26 February 2007 13:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Ok, gas dude came. He was nice. He smelled gas but said that the little detector thingie wasn't detecting any leak from any particular spot, so someone probably left a burner on (maybe apt below us) and it wafted up. He also told me that leaving a burner on accidentally isn't enough to make a building explode, which I found comforting.

Armando Grouse (Armando ), Monday, 26 February 2007 14:20 (seventeen years ago) link

yay armando!

chicago kevin says it was nice knowing you all (chicago kevin), Monday, 26 February 2007 15:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey. Nu-ILX is busted for the moment.

so everyone's gonna come do some slumming at thehold?

chicago kevin says it was nice knowing you all (chicago kevin), Monday, 26 February 2007 16:46 (seventeen years ago) link

no

n/a (n/a), Monday, 26 February 2007 16:47 (seventeen years ago) link

[i]I'm still fuzzy on the line between visual effects and art direction. I guess visual effects is a purely technical award, and art direction is more big picture?[/i]

As I understand it, visual effects is special effects, like CGI, scale models, explosions, etc., whereas art direction is like the cinematic equivalent of "set design." [i]Pan's Labyrinth[/i] was a deserving winner here because it created a unified look from the old house and the woods and the labyrinth: old and dark and mysterious. I think the category has to have some overlap with costumes, too.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 26 February 2007 16:48 (seventeen years ago) link

hahaha BBCode

Still can't log in at work, Kevin?

danno martinez (danno martinez), Monday, 26 February 2007 16:49 (seventeen years ago) link

i don't think anyone can get on now. It's all busted.

the high man in the castle (kenan), Monday, 26 February 2007 16:54 (seventeen years ago) link

I just C+P'd that from Nu-ILX because I didn't want to lose the post.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 26 February 2007 16:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I figured as much.

I am listening to Giant Brain.

danno martinez (danno martinez), Monday, 26 February 2007 16:59 (seventeen years ago) link

the high man in the castle (kenan), Monday, 26 February 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

if any of you come back, please post this to your chilx thread at the new place if anyone wants to do this.

from chicagoist:

You can't throw a stone amongst a bunch of hipsters in the Wicker Park / Humboldt area without a decent chance of accidentally hitting Plastic Crimewave's carefully managed -- and now more tightly clipped -- 'fro. Long a staple of the local psych rock scene, at least as a prodigious historian and record-keeper with a killer collection (some of which saw airtime on a recent Market Frenzy podcast), Crimewave is assembling what he calls his Vision Celestial Guitarkestra at The Empty Bottle. The idea is to get dozens of guitarists together to play a single chord -- admission is free if you bring your own axe and a short lesson on how to play the single chords will be given -- in an attempt to either a) summon our alien overlords or b) shatter every fucking window at The Bottle. Either way, we're curious to see how the whole thing pans out.
Empty Bottle, Tuesday, 9:30 p.m., $8 (free if you bring a guitar and play), 21+

chicago kevin says it was nice knowing you all (chicago kevin), Monday, 26 February 2007 23:10 (seventeen years ago) link

and i think i recall seeing elsewhere that the chord in question is E.

You still can't get in from work? I think I type for all of us when I type: W.T.F.?

Dear friends, somehow I ended up on a VIP list for s0undbar for this Friday night. All you have to do is say my name at the door, and you will get free admission and free open bar from 9 to 10:30 p.m. Thirsty fridays, anyone? Dancing? "Clubbing"?

I wish people wouldn't change their handles so drastically when in the Sandbox.

Or whatever. But if you're going to, I'm going to eye you with suspicion and indignance.
