I've told people the 'sneezing and not saying thank you' thing and they all just think I'm a cnut for not saying thank you.

So I keep thanking them just to be popular and fairies die willy-nilly.

I have heard of that, but more in the context of bringing good luck rather than "bad things will happen".

I still do it. Family thing. I wonder if my sister's former ferocious reading of Trixie Belden had something to do with it.
